  1. The barbless treble hook is just a bait holder . The single hook gets inhaled along with the bait .. When the carp blows the bait out its the single hook that catches , causing the fish to bolt . Its works the same way as the Hair Rig the Europeans use for carp . This is an easier , simpler version .
  2. I didnt want to use a treble hook , but it was the only thing I came up with to hold the dough ball on . It worked well and goig barbless caused minimal damage .
  3. This worked better than expectations . I fished two days with it and caught bunches of carp and the rig worked flawlessly . Patterned after the hair rig popular in Europe , I came up with this on the spot . I used Wheaties/commercial catfish food mixture dough-ball for bait . The small treble hook is barbless and its soul purpose to hold the dough-ball on, although it hooks and helps keep the fish on too . Next is a size 8 Octopus hook [slid on not tied] with a piece of tubing stripped from electrical wire ,slid on the shank . Slide the tubing on the line before sliding on the hook .You want the tubing to fit tight so experiment with different gauge wire .This keeps the bait in the correct position when the carp blows the bait out , A bobber stop keeps it in place . Tied onto a regular slip weight rig [ Carolina rig] . I use a heavy weight and tight line . When the carp inhales the bait it feels the resistance and blows it back out . The octopus hook catches the lip the carp spooks and bolts hooking itself . Also caught four channel cats and a buffalo . A picture is worth a thousand words .
  4. I have most of those lures on the tackle box . Even the ugly Rabblel Rouser . A lot of my favorite baits are no longer made and I lookk for them at Flea Markets and such . My most sought after lure is the Rogers shallow diving 1/4 ounce Big Jim . This lure hunts like mad and has caught more bass for me than any other shallow diver . Heres my best picture of it . LOL The old Charlie Campbell spinnerbaits were my best big fish catchers until everybody started making big spinnerbaits . I won my first tournament with one .
  5. I use the same Texas rigs for pitching that I do for casting . Why not ? Most of the time I'm doing both so that usually means I'm pitching a six inch worm . No skin hooking , I bury the barb and once I get it satisfactorily straight ,I run the hook all the way through once , then back it back down . Now I'm extremely weedless and the hooksets are easy because of the channel just made ..
  6. Just keep casting at stuff.
  7. EWG do not have larger gaps they just have a wider bend that work well with fatter baits andd tubes . In my opinion the top hook is better for six inch worms than a EWG .
  8. I've had better luck with the Trap , but I havent gave the RES a whole lot of playing time .
  9. I had some success in tournament fishing and won one event with 500 boats . I tried to have a plan A and a plan B . Plan A is usually a spot . Plan B is usually an area .There can be more than 1 plan A and B . If I started to run around the lake trying to get lucky I was done .
  10. I've been trying to find a article with real data but no luck.
  11. Thats the way with me . Maximum advertised depth , I dont think I ever reach those . I just bought a Strike King 6 series advertised to go to 19 foot . I'm hoping to get 15 on my longest cast with 12 lb mono .
  12. I have a few Poes that have hardly been used . I dont know what seires they are but one is large with a lip that protrudes straight out .
  13. I want to take the guess work out of choosing a crankbait . 15 foot Manns Pigs , I dont use them in 15 foot of water , I will use them 10 to 12 foot . I like the Norman Deep Little N . It has been one of my favorites for a long time . I never hard of the NXS but I will get a couple now .
  14. I have experimented with pegging , ewg hooks , lizards , craws , creatures....and my catch rate went down . The basic T-rig with a plastic worm, slip sinker and offset hook the way I learned from reading how the old pros did it, work best for me .
  15. I'd like compile a list as to what depth various crankbaits will run on a long cast with 12 lb test .. I've been using Big Game .014 diameter . I cold switch to xl but am not going to braid . I'm sticking with 12 lb test because I dont take that many rods along . .I want the bait to hit bottom but not dig into it real hard . Norman Deep Liitle N is a personal favorite at 10 foot and the rapala Crankin Rap ccr14 has been doing well at 12 foot .
  16. The only time I had any luck with them was in river for smallmouth .
  17. Today I caught 74 bass . probably 50 came on crankbaits ,mainly in open water about 12 foot deep . The rest came on t-rig worms shallower in brush .
  18. I lfish the old Whopper stopper Bayou Boogies . Its a lipless bait with no rattles .Great baits .
  19. Reservoir , it should have a dam . The dam and rip rap banks are good places to fish . . I like to use sinking baits . They can be t-rigs , compact single blade spinnerbaits , lipless cranks , prerigged swim baits... I start out by casting right next to shore and reeling in . Next cast is a little farther out and deeper . Next cast a little farther out and deeper yet ... Let the bait sink to the bottom . Dont let the lures settle in the rocks . Watch your line as it is sinking . As soon as you see it slack up a little pop your rod to get the lure up and moving . When reeled in it will follow the contour of the slope from deep to shallow " the strike zone" . Move a few yards and repeat . I almost always catch fish like this . After a few fish you should start developing a pattern and can start fine tuning the process . Silent lipless cranks work real well. My favorite is the old Bayou Boogie but the SK RedEyed Shads should work just as well . SK Rocket Shads spinners are good for this , as are the SK Mini Spins . With the Mini Spins take a 1'8th ounce rubber core sinker , remove the rubber and crimp the weight on the shank of the hook . That makes it cast better sink faster and stay close to the bottom easier . Good luck .
  20. Just use anything . If its soft plastic and can be T-rigged it will catch a lot of bass .For decades A six inch plastic worm has been and always will be one of the top fish catchers . I like Jelly worms but they are hard to find anymore . Zoom trick worms are everywhere . One day last year , I forgot my soft plastics . digging through my tackle I found a bag of black Gizits . I t-rigged them and didnt miss a beat .
  21. I've never caught a fish on a chatterbait either .and I've made probably 10 cast with them .
  22. If I lived close by I'd gladly remove a hundred or so .
  23. Ponds ,small lakes with rip rap dams , vegetation... , rivers ... describe the water .
  24. No , but I almost hit another boat . I was watching the Herons in the tees , a pleasure boat slowed in front of me and was heading to bank . When I looked forward had him dead in my sights . It can happen quickly .
