  1. I fish lakes a lot shallower than that . I would concentrate on the deepest part of the lake . A depth finder is an invaluable tool on these shallow lakes . I might still be fishing shallow but bass will be near the deeper water . Shoreline cover will be the ticket some days , stumps the next . A person just doesnt know . . Is it full of vegetation ? Is there a creek channel running through the stump fields ? The skinny back- waters I fish spinnerbaits , buzzbaits and plastic worms are the big three producers.
  2. I use trailer hooks but no plastic trailer .My favorite bait is the Original lunker lure in yellow , chartreuse , white and black . Yellow and yellow/blue , yellow / black work well in my local waters .
  3. I let the bass tell me which hat to wear .
  4. I get a color that is hot , I'll tend to keep using it . Right now that is chartreuse pumpkin Jelly worms . Back in the 80's lime green Fliptail worms worked well . I only had two packages and could never find them again .
  5. Yep . I have been using 17 lb test xl on my worm rod and its the same diameter as 15 lb xt . I dont know if they are the same formula or not .
  6. The thermocline is usually in the fifteen foot range and I've caught plenty of bass that deep . I fish that depth on the points at night and catch nice fish . I just havent located the sweet spot on that flat .
  7. Most of my night fishing is done on a small 200 acre lake . There is 1 flat that has produced a few big fish shallow . So I know they call this flat home . I have only caught two there during the day .They were both maybe 10 foot deep . I've searched all over , deep , a drop off ...I'd like to find their daytime hideout .
  8. If a white object or the bottom can be seen at a certain depth then light will travel at least double that depth because it has to go through the water and back to be seen .
  9. I do much better on bright nights , but the water here is always stained usually a foot or less of visibility .
  10. I use to fish anytime I could launch a boat . The boat I own now gets pushed around like an empty potato chip bag [22 foot Lowe deck boat ] in high winds .My little plastic gets swamped easily .So now days I try to avoid anything much over 15 mph and preferably less than 10. The heat keeps me off the water more than the wind .
  11. In my experience , when he wind blows from the east it usually blows very hard
  12. One of my favorite points has a small point off the side of it . I call it a secondary point . Its on a small lake where people dont usually have depthfinders . Sometimes it is stacked and I catch fish for hours straight .
  13. You cant fish good extended points from bank because your stuck fishing the shallow section .. If the fish are deep , you're out of luck . Sorry ..
  14. Low light conditions are usually the best . Keep your eyes open for opportunity to throw them at other times . I like to throw a large Popper/chugger in the heat of the summer , mid day in deep standing timber . This has been a numbers game not a very good technique for large fish .
  15. The thermolcline becomes visible on the depth finder and is the first thing I look for . Light , Temperature and oxygen all drop significantly there. I dont fish deeper than it . There may be times when bass are deeper , I dont know , but I set it as my limit . When fishing structure such as points you often here the term the spot on the spot . The thermocline itself can be the spot on the spot .
  16. I fish the Mississippi river and the current keeps the temps and oxygen mixed up throughout the water column . I cant recall ever catching bass deeper than what you reported .
  17. Im in northern Missouri and bass can definitely be found in large groups . I have fished the same spot for hours and left fish still biting . I dont now if bass are actual schooling fish or not but great number will occupy great structure .
  18. I fish six inch worms more than anything else and use mostly 3/16 and 1/4 ounce weights .
  19. The past two years the Rapala Crankin Rap CR14 in chartreuse/ greenback has done well at ten to twelve feet . Last week I caught about twenty from one point with it . It has a tight action .
  20. If one doesnt understand this then one is just not trying very hard .
  21. A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is acquired through the scientific method and repeatedly tested and confirmed through observation and experimentation.
  22. Bounce them off the bottom as fast as you can and still remain in contact with it . I'd use a minimum 1/4 ounce weight .
  23. Some things are debatable some not debatable. What a bass can see is . How light waves disappear under the water is not .
  24. When I'm fishing deeper like on a point my two most used lures are a Texas rig on 17 lb test and crankbaits on 12 lb test . . So is speed fishing "powerfishing" and slow fishing "finnese" fishing ? To me they are just meaningless labels .
