I fish offshore structure all the time,. . You used the more appropriate word " shallows " I used the word "shore" . Substitute shore for shallows , were talking exactly the same thing .

That was my meaning . I fish for lots of species . Humps for example , are one of my favorite spots . If a hump has a saddle leading to it , its a classic area. If the hump comes out of the depths in the middle of a reservoir not so much though i have caught a few from these places . Those humps will hold populations of crappie , white bass , channel cats but not so much largemouths .Thats been my experience .

If the breaklines are deeper than the bass because of lack of O2 or other reasons then the bass will not follow that line . I think you know what my point was .

Almost all the good structure I ever fished has been connected to the shore .The bass can travel from the structure to the shore without swimming over open water . There has been a few exceptions .

Buy some marker buoys . Mark cover on the structure . The best bait by far for me , a Texas rigged Plastic worm .

Inexpensive jigs are what I always use . Bass will bite them as well as expensive jigs .

Go back to the basics . Skinny six inch worms , slip sinker { dont peg} and offset regular worm hook, {no wide gap}. Bury the hook in the worm , thats how those hooks are designed { no skin hook}. You will get bites and that hook on a jelly worm or similar worm will penetrate the basses mouth easily on a solid hookset . Take your time and get the worm straight , if not line twist will result . This is the greatest bass catcher of all time and will remain so .

First trip of the year . Cold temps puts the bass spawn on hold , pulling them into slightly deeper water into the heaviest cover . Texas rigged Jelly worms caught them . 4 over the slot , 2 under .

Dont feel bad . I set the hook too soon a lot . Its hard not to when one explodes on your lure . You should not set it until you feel the fish . Easier said than done .

You could do like my niece and throw a beetle spin. She seems to always catch a couple .

I went fishing yesterday. .The bass havent spawned yet . Unseasonably cold . North wind 10 to 15 mph, morning air temp 40 degrees , bluebird sky , surface water temp low 60's. I caught perhaps 40 bass including four over the slot with a Texas rigged 6 inch purple Manns Jelly Worm .Most of the fish came from isolated brush and stumps 3 to 6 foot deep or the steeper banks in the creeks . They were all in the cover and hitting real well .

I use the spring loaded clip ons with no problem other than getting bent in my shirt pocket . Just like a buzzbait , I straighten them out . I understand that they are making polarized transition lens . If thats the case it seem like the way to go for a fisherman . I am going to inquire about them next time I need new glasses .
