  1. My first club tournament ,I got skunked . My first open tournament I caught a 6 lb drum right off the bat. LOL and got skunked on bass .
  2. Just saw a rebel shallow diving Maxi-R at a thrift store for 3 bucks. I didnt have three bucks in my pocket to buy it .
  3. You wont need sensitivity . I like to use 7.6 inch flipping rods for catfish and carp .An Ugly stick will work great if it has enough muscle.
  4. Taj Mahal fishin Blues
  5. Keep trying you'll figure it out .
  6. The best word to say is s_ _ t . Its better than every other word. If you are saying a different word you then are doing it wrong .
  7. Now on the other hand , I have fished places that the bass have never seen a lure. They followed me around like a dog. If I let a lure dangle in the water fish would grab it. Places that are noisy all the time , the fish get use to that noise. Theres a lot of variables involved in bass fishing . No set rules .
  8. The first bass I ever caught on a Texas rig , I was trying to copy a jig. I put a black skirt on the line behind the sinker , then Texas rigged a black Mister Twister double tail grub . I was hopping it just like I read about in Bassmaster magazine and felt a slight tap. Reluctantly I reeled the slack out of my line and reared back just like the articles said to do . I caught that fish and was hooked from then on. Many thousands have come since .
  9. I always fish quietly. I dont wear bright colors , I dont stomp, and I dont let my shadow hit the place I'm fishing. I take the same precautions in a boat . People do catch fish stomping around , making all kinds of racket wearing bright shirts, I will not argue that. There is no doubt in my mind , though ,that more and bigger fish will be caught if the fish doesnt know you're there .
  10. I have a Floating Trap. Never have used it. Just f forgot about it.
  11. What if the bass is swimming toward you ? Try to rig the trailer so it cannot interfere . After all these years Im still experimenting on attaching trailers. Thread them on the shank or just run a hook through them . I have always used a trailer just because everyone else does.
  12. I'm going to have to break down and buy one. Cant argue with results .
  13. One of the bass Pros { dont remember which one ] use to make this jig , with the forked weed guard. I would scrape the underside with a pocket knife to bend and weaken it. It got out of the way fast and did not interfere with hooksets. Use to buy them 12 to a card. This is my last one and will not use it. Look at that price .
  14. ^^ Thats the way I do it. Even worked in the 70's when the rod was 5.5 foot inches long and spooled 14 lb Stren .
  15. Ive always been a buzz bait junkie .One year I decided to make myself a better top water fisherman and dedicated a part of each day to throwing nothing but top water baits. The 2 lures that really caught fish for me were the Pico Pop and the Dalton Special . The Dalton Special put a lot of fish in the boat. Its been awhile but I need to break it out again this year. As far as water temps , I have caught bass in the 40's with a floating Long A Minnow. Just cast it out and let it sit. When I move it I do it gently .
  16. I find that old time pistol grip 5.5 to 6 foot casting rods work best for walking baits. Spook legend Charlie Campbell uses a 5.5 foot rod . A lot of people [ but not all ] who recommend long rods with long handles have never tried a short rod .
  17. Anything can be used as a jig trailer. Tore up plastic worms work .
  18. Grass and slimy moss are two different things. I catch fish in snotty , messy , slimy moss with weightless texas rigs.
  19. Coontail is great and easy to fish. If there are isolated patches of it drag a weightless texas rigged "anything" over the top and theres a good chance it will get bit.
  20. Texas Rig
  21. Every cast should have a purpose. When you start catching fish , you will know why .
  22. I still have some Rebel Deep Wee Rs new in box that were made to go along with the Color C Lector. One is red and one is green and another lure by Cordell . Dont remember what that one is .
  23. Sometime in the 80's I carved a plastic worm out of a block of wood , made a plaster of paris mold , melted used worms and poured my own. These worms were not round but flat with a curl tail. They catch fish as well as any I have ever used. I need to pour some more .
  24. I use to buy 1/2 ounce weights and take the blunt end to a grinding wheel until it got to the size a skirt would fit over it. Started doing that in 1985 .
  25. I found what I was looking for here. http://www.nighthawkpublications.com/journal/2015/07/journal_3.htm
