HHAHAHAAH good thing I got a new Jerkbait Rod. My luck is that they will be chomping on whatever I'm NOT throwing that day.

Gain Confidence
Im learning Cranks, among other things. One thing Ive found that gives me confidence is catching fish on cranks. (I know, I know... Rocket Science huh?) But, I do it at small neighborhood ponds that are loaded with dinks. Yes they would probably hit a bare hook, but it also lets me feel what a strike is, practice hooksets, learn how to toss them around cover. I took a RC Squarebill this morning and landed 15 or so in a about 1.5 hrs. Not saying Im ready to take them and crank the bigger lakes to death, but Im a little more comfortable with them now. Try it out!

Blue and I was talking about this the other day. Small lakes here in KS is just a Junk Fishermans dream. There isnt enough of any one structure in a lake to really get on a solid pattern.

Fishing From A Boat
I could be wrong, but if I was you I wouldn't worry about Water Moccasins too much on Keowee. In 20 years of living in Westminster, I've never been bothered by one. Even on Keowee. Heck, I don't even remember seeing on on Keowee. One thing you will have to remember is wind, and situational awareness. If I was you, I would take that yak and launch from Newry Beach. There is some pretty good fishing spots around there. The Riprap along Hwy 130 would be good. I remember scuba diving right next to the hwy. There is a pump or something that is on a small rig on the south side of the riprap. Not far from shore. There is a sunken boat just north of that rig, and long that riprap was plenty of bream beds. Should be some good fishing along there. Or, back toward Seneca off 130 is a Marina, can't remember the name of it. Lots of docks around there. It's in a cove so should be protected from the wind.

Where To Fish And Camp In Kansas
Its a bigger lake, but fishes small by the looks. Read there is lots of timber. Yates Center Lakes are suppose to be nice lakes too

Where To Fish And Camp In Kansas
If they allowed camping, Id say Critzer. I have a friend that says at a hotel in Iola when he fishes Critzer. Are you wanting big lakes or SFL size? Personally, Mound City, Wabuansee, Bourbon, Critzer, and Ft Scott are lakes Id love to spend a weekend fishing. They are far enough away to make a day trip hard.

Summer Tactics
Been reading some Articles on here lately. Mainly on tactics, patterns and such. Went out yestetday and barely did beat the skunk off. It was terribly windy and mostly sunny. This is my first year NOT fishing from a kayak. Bass boat owner is what I am now. Im so use to fishing the slop and shallows cause deeper water wasn't really accessible when the wind howls. How do you tackle summer days? Cover orientated lakes with little structure. Mainly a creek channel, man made riprap jetties, some have steep drops coming off those jetties, and steep banks. DNR have put brushpiles at the base of some drops. And also scattered throughout the lake. Map example * marks brush

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Man, Ive felt lost past couple times out. Wind has been howling, which probably didnt help. Managed a skinny 18" Greenie with a severe underbite on a 7"Slammer. That was it. Tried and lost a Aruku Shad, Swim Jig, Buzzbait. Maybe it was the wind. It was howing. White caps on a 30-40 acre lake. If the wind wasnt whipping I could have drug a jig or something deeper. But moving baits was all I could toss effectively. Maybe Ill pick a calmer day next time
