ww2farmer nailed it. I have 6:3:1 reels I use for shallow to say . . . .6-8 ft divers. Anything deeper usually gets the 5:2:1 simply to be easier on the ol' arms and shoulders while doing so.

x2 I have 3 Falcon Cara rods that are 6'10" The only way I would go longer is if I was flipping and pitching in some of that slop down in Florida.

I would rather watch him than Ike. I have to say this tho. No matter how much I dislike Ike's outbursts he is an excellent angler and I will force myself to pay attention base on that I just might learn something. Ish talks a bunch of smack but he is an excellent fisherman as well.

I asked the square bill guru himself at the Bassmaster Classic expo here recently. Mr. Rick Clunn told me in his opinion to use a 6:3:1 reel and burn it as fast as you can. If you hit cover let it pause then start reeling again. If that didn't work vary your retrieve until you figure it out. I personally use a 6'10" rod around docks. Any other time I use a 7'4" rod when I'm not in around casting obstacles. I have read articles that had Kevin Short quoted as saying to reel or guide your cranks into cover. When it hits the cover pause. He wants his cranks to do a 180. He wants the bait to possibly turn around and face the attacker.

I caught my first LM from a pond 25 years ago. I threw a 38 special. It had a blue and yellow skirt and the blades were white with glitter on them. I still have that spinner bait. Anyways. . . . . spinner baits and soft plastics are my go too baits with an occasional shallow running crank thrown in. Don't give up and have fun.

I purchased a pair of the amber lenses. I will be trying them out the next 2 Sunday's. I have a 2 day tournament at the end of this month and I will be able to give more of my experience then.

Do a forum search on KVD line and lure and also Reel magic. Most of the peeps on here are against RM and for KVD. I have used RM and I am presently switching to KVD.

x2 I have kids in sports and time isn't an option. I only have the time to fish club stuff now with maybe an occasional tourny like yours. I hope to next year fish a few BFL and weekend series tournys as a non-boater.

I'm not taking it seriously. I just won't watch if this is how they are going to do the show. If that's the case put it on Bravo. They could call it The Real BASS. Dean Rojas could be the star. If I want to watch a soap I'll watch one. I'd rather not watch our sport turn into one. As far as interesting. That is your opinion. I don't think it is interesting at all. To see a grown man whine how he did and not discuss this privately is disgusting.

Honestly what I think they are doing is creating a certain degree of a reality TV show. I don't like it at all. I think they should watch those shows and see how and why they are doing better. I mean, don't get me wrong. I love BASS but I will not tolerate this kind of trash. I say start a bassresource.com tour! I'll fish it!
