The last 2 are a slightly larger frame but the Steez is small. Nothing new there that I'm aware of. Just the current zillion sv tws.

Set your parts aside like you take it apart. That way you can just reverse the procedure. Take pictures to aid in reassembling the reel. Always have a schematic handy. They don't exactly show you how to put it back together but it's a big help.

Yeah, there's probably 400+ posts on the tatula if you do a quick search on them. It's a very solid reel for the money.

When fishing squarebills or lipless around grass I prefer a fast action rod that's close to a medium heavy.

The current Steez sv tws is magnesium. I haven't heard a single negative about it. Actually it's the total opposite. Even people who didn't want to like it say it's an amazing reel. So that's the only one I'm excited about. Being non sv and aluminum now should drop the price a decent amount. Definitely on my list of reels to buy. If it comes in around 300ish it should be a pretty big contender in that price range.

Are you referring to the rods? The reel doesn't really look any different than previous offerings.

Word is that a new tatula with sv spool will be released around the classic. A new Fuego and aluminum Steez SV TWS are to be released also. A newly revamped line of tatula rods are in the works too.

Simple green works very well to clean the parts. People will have different answers as for what works 'best'. I used to only grease gears and use different weight oils for everything else. I've now switched away from that after some time testing both and some chat time with who most would agree is the best reel tuner around. I grease the main and pinion gear,worm gear, and the frame bearings. The only thing I oil now is the spool bearings,and the AR bearing. My results are a smoother feeling reel verse the oil.

You can't fully clean the worm gear with it still in the reel. The tube it's inside of gets pretty nasty. You can add some grease to it though but I only add grease after I know it's been cleaned recently.

I already spoke with him after seeing his name previously mentioned by you since he's in MD. He seems to do some very nice work. However, the photo he sent me to reference what he would do to my rod was not at all pleasing to the eyes. This is what he proposed but on a different area of the rod. Imo that does not look good. I can't take that chance on this rod. I told him it wasn't what I was thinking and asked how else he could do what I wanted done but I never received a response back from him.

Find a local rod builder to you and have them install a new grip. If there's one close enough to drive to within an hour or so that would save you money on shipping. I need some changes made to a rod and the labor cost is like $30-50 which is great but I'm going to have another $40-60 in shipping it both ways. So now I'm looking at roughly $100 total and that kinda makes it tough for me to decide on what to do now. That's me shipping it in the same state or 1 state away.

Removing only the spool isn't going to allow you to oil anything except the spool bearings. Other than that you'll need to tear it apart to actually service it properly. For the spool bearings the Remington gun oil will be fine. If you do a full service pick up a tube of super lube grease. After you clean everything really well you'll then need to re grease some things.

Being worth it is up to you. In all honesty I could pick up a reel in the $150 range that performs just as well as some of my reels costing 2-3x as much. As Robert mentioned there's a weird sense of joy that comes from using some of the high end gear. Tolerances feel tighter. It feels better built. Smoother and so on. There's also the collectibility part of it too for some people. Is it actually better? That's for the buyer to decide. Here's what a $400 reel looks like in pieces and a $150 reel. Not much difference.

Calfish doesn't paint anymore. There's also new kids on the scene who are doing killer work. Most of which I'd put above his.

At that price range it comes down to personal preference. You can't go wrong with a high end reel from either of those companies.

You definitely lucked out then at that price. A buddy bought one a few months ago for $3,200.

Yes, you're right. He does win with it, but it's mainly for things like drop shot and shakey head. You won't see him throwing a 3/8 crank on it. Yeah, I throw a bandit 200/300 all the time on casting gear. No problems at all.

Also since it's very limp it has a tendency to tangle in the hooks. I'm a huge fan of braid but I know there's a time and place for it. My topwater/jerkbait/crankbait rod does not have it. With jerks and topwaters it's a problem for me. If I was only cranking with that rod it would have braid on it. I use a slightly more powerful rod for squarebills and I throw them with braid.

Savage gear makes a shine glide that would fit the bill nicely. 5.25" long and weighs 1oz. I didn't like the giron. The ganterell is much nicer.
