Catch 22

Surprise catch today.3 carp all snagged with a jerkbait.They were up on a flat about 3' deep Thankfully the water cooled back down to 44 deg because of the 4" snow,so the jerk bite is still good. The lmb is 16" and didn`t want to lay still for a photo. 2 good bass and 4 dinks 4 pickerel 3 carp

For most peeps high winds, as in gail force means riding it out in the garage or workin the honey-do list. To me it means I have the place to myself and often good catchin. Today with high wind the first cast resulted in a 4+ lbr that just inialated an LC100. Coupla more cast to the area saw a few insincere taps. So I backed off ,down sized to a 78 LC to trick a 2=1/2 lbr and a few dinks.About an hr later another 4lb`r witch smacked the 100. Can`t describe in just a few words what that type hit does for me.Its like a micro masochistic event,which is what keep lots of us goingback .It was very cold and nasty ,but I went home warm inside. When traveling I pay cash for gas.Had my card nipped twice on the road. My son is not one to mess with computer wise. His wife`s card was physically stolen. So he started tracking purchases made on the card by the minute.He would call the store and ask them to review and hold the camara pictures while contacting the local police. After three times they caught up with the thief. I don`t know the outcome. Hopefully he got to be bubba`s "person of interest" C22

Some of the best gill fishing I ever did was with a # 4 bait hook/half a crawler/no weight or bobber. Just toss and let it sink.Often the larger more aggressive ones will be caught first.I`m about ready to catch a mess.They taste good from cold water. C22

I stopped at the shop today to iron out the math in my head.Here is how they do it. The second figure equates to ounces=not tenths Maybe its a Delaware thing? Actually it the way the scale is calibrated. In my head a comma or dash should be written instead of a point. examples 11.1 = 11 pounds 1 ounce 11.5 = 11 pounds 5 ounces 11.10 = 11 lbs 10 oz 11.15 = 11 lbs 15 oz 11.16 = 12 lbs = which would show up as such on the scale. Fishing along with no catching,if I tie on diffrent lure and catch a bass on the first cast with it,its done for the rest of the day. Another lure fish first cast ,its done. Had that happen so many times. No bananas,no alchohol on board C22

I passed by a meth treatment center recently just before they opened the doors where about 20 of them were standing around. I swear the first thing in my head was "hey they`re shooting a zombie film" C22

The 11lb10 oz beast bettered the old record by exactly one pound. The old record10=10 bass from 2012 was caught and released back into the same water that todays catch came from. Same fish 4yrs later? The new record bass was certified, photographed and released back into the same pond again which is public. Kudos to the angler.The beast took a white spinnerbait. C22

I used to wet wade a small stream a few nights a week. Dumest smallies for spinnerbaits I have ever seen.There was dead fall tree about a foot diameter that was half submerged. I placed the sb over the log in a pocket behind it.The bait crawled over the log real pretty with a smallie in hot persuit.It jumped over the log and smashed the sb I broke off a jig in a flounder only to catch it an hour later and get my jig back. I used to feel the same way about pickerel,but have come to understand that they provide tons of pullage round here in the winter. On average,they do lay waste on two LC`s every year.

WX turned decent today,so I had to wet a line. Place # 1== half open ,but ice at the ramp # 2 == bad muddy # 3== tide water ,but a guy was anchored on top of my crappie hole # 4==iced up # 5==Lets go fishing. Clear water with 38 deg water. The bite was on right away with jerks . First 20 mins I landed 4 pickerel, one which had a 6" bluegill sticking in its gullet. Then 2 yellows, then a lmb # 16".Some of the hits were really vicious much to my surprise. I had to work a little harder for 3 more lmb and 3 more pickerel. The LC 100 took larger fish with Daiwa coming in second. No jig bite again. I have to wonder if the new moon had a positive effect on the bite. Its listed at 9:40 am which was the best bite? C22

Wow, you are a trooper. Nice write up,I enjoyed it too. Keep in mind that the wt down deep is going to be around 38/39 deg. Might I suggest trying some 1/8 oz hairjigs and to work on those jerkbaits some more C22

I have about 4 friends that I exchange info with.I trust about 3% of the general population who are mostly engaged in "one upsmanship" and bs. I too have been known to tell little white lies As stated its part of the game. C22

I fish lots of ponds primarily in the winter months that are 50 to 100 acres, all public. I have several tidal rivers to chose from ,but the productivity is just not there, or maybe I just can`t figure them out. A captive audience, so to speak. Sometimes its easy, sometimes not. The main thing is that it gets me through the winter. I would enjoy a ponds forum or at least a ponds only thread. C22

I use to live in Amish country near the end of the line, the way the wires run. It was me and maybe 2 others that needed the service, so the phone company would not even consider and upgrade, so we suffered thru years of dial up service that demanded a minimum of a 28 kb puter. Talk about a pony express type service! I liked XP but the security was SO BAD 8 was horrible and they knew it so they made 10 free to most users. Don`t care for that email system.
