I love a good buzzbait bite, seems like they were active. Cavitrons rock, no other buzzbait even comes close, except maybe the accent lures hi rider. But Cavitrons beat the socks of even those.

In clear and lightly stained water, an approximate match of the forage colors will help. In murkier water, lures that stand out more will usually garner more strikes.

Buzzbaits with black or purple skirts, jitterbugs, and bigger prop baits. Go bigger, bolder, and darker in murky water. I have found that bass in murky or stained water are also more likely to hit topwaters during the daytime hours than bass in clear water.

My biggest largemouth was on a 6" zoom black with green flake lizard. It was 6 pounds and about 9 ounces. My biggest smallie was 5 pounds on the nose, caught on a #9 gold panther martin.

I work an area good before I move on usually. When a bass misses, if you continue the steady retrieve they will sometimes come back and hit it. Trick worms and sluggos are good throw back baits. Usually the best way to fish a buzzbait is to reel it as slowly as possible while still keeping it gurgling on the surface. If your not in heavy weedcover, a trailer hook is invaluable.

Bomber square A, bandit footloose and 1000 series, worden's timber tiger, and the Bass Pro shallow models. A shallow diving fat A and model A from bomber also are good for this, as are the shallower strike king models.

No I catch lots of 2 - 4 pounders and occasionally 5 - 6 pounders, and have hooked some closer to 9 - 10 pounds. I've just noticed it at just about every fishery I fish though. I guess little bass are just more aggressive. I wasn't saying the average bass I catch on a 5" fluke was 5 - 6", they are usually more like 13 - 15" on average. I catch little bass on cranks and topwaters too, not just plastics. Probably the lure that catches the biggest average size for me are spinnerbaits, but other lures are more effective much of the time. In Colorado, where I live, a 6 - 7 pounder is a big one. Probably 80% of the bass I catch range from 10 - 15" and 1 - 3 pounds.

I catch tons of bass that are barely bigger or about the same size as the plastics I'm using. Lots of 5 - 6 inchers off of super flukes and 5" senkos, 7 - 8" bass on 6" lizards, even caught a 7 incher on an 8" worm once. Do you guys still catch lots of 12" - 15" bass on 8 - 10" plastics?

Does KVD's L and L make your line a lot more limp and manageable? Would you say it reduces backlashes and tangles in both spinning and casting gear?

Weedless spoons kick *** for bass and pike. Regular, non weedless spoons like daredevles and little cleos also are very overlooked and deadly for bass in deeper water, away from cover.

You just have to overcome the fear of hanging the bait up. When your not fishing in cover to where you can bounce the crank off of it, a stop and go retrieve works best. Lots of bass hit when it's floating back up. A telescopic and hounddog style lure retriever are a must when boat fishing. You can use the telescopic one off the bank if your snagged up close enough for the retriever to reach it. Whenever I tick cover or structure, I just let the crank float back, and then reel till it hits the object again. Cranks will deflect pretty well off rocks and logs. Brush is a lot more likely to snag your lure.

Pepper Hawgs, which are made right here in Grand Junction. Terminator and Nichols are second and third.

No buzzbait performs like a cavitron, I can tell you that. I do well on most buzzbaits, but cavitrons just seem to trigger more strikes. You can run them a bit slower and they squeak louder.

I just fish whatever bait will run down deep enough to tick the tops of the weeds, and then quickly float off. Bomber model A's and fat As, Bagley Honey Bees, Excalibur Fat Frees, any bouyant crank. Make sure it runs just deep enough to get to the tops of the weeds and not bury in them. Ripping a lipless crank like mad over weedbeds also works well.

Jitterbugs are great baits but the trebles they come with suck. Put a trailer hook on, that might help. Bass are always going to miss your lure at night quite a bit anyway.

They have great action, I have caught bass, pike, and trout on them. I just wish they would sink deeper. I might try putting some suspenstrips or stick on lead putty on them.

For regular cranks and lipless cranks, along with topwaters too, I like pure glass or a graphite/glass mix. Now on jerkbaits like the X - Rap, Husky Jerk, or Lucky Craft Pointer, I think a medium graphite is better, you get better twitching action on your lure.

Senkos just flat out are deadly, maybe the best bass lure of all time, at least for clearer water.

Power Pro. If the cover is fairly heavy go with 30 pound test. Heavier than that and I would recommend casting gear. Use a mono leader and fill your reel with about 20 - 30 yards of mono first.

Great bait for fishing heavy cover. I like anything black for stained or murky water, and watermelonseed and pumpkin for clear. I use a screw in sinker and a 3/0 hook for the regular brush hog, and a 2/0 for the baby brush hog.

Panther Martin spinner in size 9. Colors gold or orange.

Palomar or Uni.
