Coincidentally apropos of next to nothing, one of the competitors in my local yak club got busted last week, too. Not exactly certain, but it sounds like he was doing the digital age version of moving fish -- I think he was catching them outside tourny waters (or tourny times) and messing with the digital photo meta data to make it look like he was in compliance. Guy's going to have trouble getting near another tournament around here for years.

I've seriously considered the mojo yak rods, but haven't pulled the trigger on one yet. First, the precise handle length you mentioned doesn't mean much unless you are using a site like TW that does a standard measure criteria for rods from different manufacturers. If you look at three different sources, you might see three different handle lengths for the same rod. Second, I hate to do this to you but @Hawkeye21 is correct. You may need to try different handles to find what works for you. For me, it really depends. In general, I prefer shorter handles in my yak. But, it turns out that it really only makes a huge difference for me with spinning rods. Long butts on spinning rods makes for really uncomfortable forearms and wrists, particularly when dropshotting or shaky heading. On baitcasters, it completely depends on what I'm throwing....target roll casting with too long a handle, I get some issues with PFD. Long casting chatterbaits or cranks with less concern for dead-on accuracy, I have no issues with longer handles.

No doubt, it's 90% in my head...but, I can't get a non-current water LMB to touch a Menace. But I ALWAYS have a Bug on. In current, the Menace gets bit just fine.....especially by SMB, but LMB, also. I've reconfirmed this last couple times out....the only thing that gets near a Menace in a lake is that rat-a-tat-tat bluegill bite.

@dave, thanks for the suggestion! I blew up the budget and got the 6'8" LMH HE3. Broke it in yesterday and absolutely love it. It is exactly what I wanted....casts beautifully, feather-lite, with surprising backbone, skips like a dream. That tip is crazy-perfect. Cast flex is just right for the weights I wanted to use it with -- but will snap a hookset perfectly

I've spent quite a few hours pulling nothing but water with buzzbaits. In my 'defense', I do fish a lot of water in which I've found very little topwater bite, aside from frogs and toads in thicker salad. Poppers, wake baits, walkers, prop baits, jiterbugs, ploppers, etc....they all get ignored by the bass around here when I'm working them. Though, I've had success in other places...with all but buzzbaits.

The KBF tournaments that I fish have a check-in time 30 minutes to one hour after 'lines-in'. So, you can fish right up to tournament end time. Most have also allowed a virtual check in, so sometimes you never even have to physically go to the TD.

I, too, rent boats from time to time. I bought a mushroom anchor and 50 foot of line for probably around $25 and keep it in my car.

Yep....every event, no matter if national, regional, or local, that is associated with kbf has torqueedo all over it. First couple events I fished where it was advertised that torqueedo was an addded prize, I was pretty impressed. The small print not obvious was that the torqueedo prizes were coupons knocking maybe a couple hundred off the two grand prices....I felt a little duped...torqueedo has inserted itself well into every possible add/sponsor space

I agree with all, @TOXIC But, what saddens me is that their success relates very directly to the demise of those mom and pops that gladly catered to experienced fishermen....those that continued to be willing to pay the premium for the service and community offered

Don't for a second doubt the ingenuity of the yakkers. They WILL find a way to mount both motors in such a way as to get that thing into any water I'm not much of a modder, but I am blown away by some of the adaptations every time I go out with a group

I'm not sure, but I am sure that the yak as a fishing platform is undergoing an incredible change pace. Standing, peddling, motoring....the changes are sort of dizzying....but I thought I'd gotten accustomed to that. Then, something else comes along to sort of blow my mind. Here's another potential game changer. Under a grand; motor-ready...in fact designed from hull up for a motor....and I heard that KBF already on board with it, though I've been unable to confirm that.

Resurrecting this because my news feed alerted me to a new player in the cartopping space. Cool enough idea, though not a lot more economical than the Hullivator. (About a month after this thread, I 'stole' my wife's Hullivator and have been using it since.....so much better than any other method, I'd figured out.) I don't understand the physics or the 'why', but the Owner Ultrahead Finesse Ball Head handles rocks very well for me, as does the spider head suggested above by @OkobojiEagle
