I rarely fish from the bank any more, so I never really paid attention to the Deeper threads, but I just looked at the web site, and it is, indeed, pretty cool. I can certainly see how the mapping could be hugely valuable, since it would be great to be able to log the gradations. Wonder how far off a drone version is? It'd be cool to send one out in the morning and have it come back at night with the entire lake mapped for me.

Tough to set an initial field. Nobody is going to be happy. I'm a little interested in how they do it in successive years. I like the suggestion in the article above that there's a lower end cut at the end of the year....and ten probably isn't enough. You can't make top 70% and you're out next year.....not sure how that would work with three-year commitments, but they have to keep the pool aerated

hope they're worried unnecessarily .....really seems as though they've settled in here around the Potomac without hurting LMB's. I was always somewhat upset when I hooked anything other than a bass, but I'm kinda enjoying the snakeheads -- same lures and environs, better fight. And even better for those that keep to eat

I can't answer your question. But I can say that I don't miss them. Thumpers and Anacondas, for me, cover the spread. I just never found the flange-y Recons different enough, nor durable enough to make me stay with them. Was a rare outing that I could get more than one fish per worm....and I never thought they outfished the other two.

I have micro guides on about a third of my rods - 'mini-micro' on one...lol. I use (alberto 7/7) leaders on all but two rods. The only time I have trouble with knots and guides is if my tags are cut sloppy. It takes time and a good cutting edge to cut perfect tags without dinging the knot, but it is worth it. Edit: On rare occassions, I do still catch a knot on a guide with spinning gear and very fine line, like 12# Gliss w/ 6# YZH leader...not often and usually only in good wind

My initial reaction to OP was to try some MegaStrike and see if you couldn't get them to hold on a bit longer.....but after reading this I change my answer after reading about the missing claws, however. I usually take that to mean bluegills. And when I put MegaStrike on my craws, it just compounds the problem. Some days MegaStrike only makes it worse because some of those little bugger hang on until they rip off appendages.

Funny....I almost welcome the flathead bite here. I have no clue what they're doing to the local ecosystem, but I don't catch a lot of them; they're generally bigger and better fighters than other catfish. It's the blues that bother me the most. Those will hit ANY lure; slime three feet of line, lure and leader and bury a barb into the hardest fish mouth surface known to man. You could be right -- everything I've ever seen/read appears pretty scary. But, then again, the really scary stuff about the Mississippi, Chicago River, Great Lakes risks, etc....those articles were jumping out at you many years ago...now I imagine they're still a huge risk, but can't be the Armageddon we were warned about because I just don't hear about it all that often...maybe it is and people are just numb to it...IDK. Snakeheads here were similar when first arrived, but we've managed to coexist with them pretty well up to this point.

Call them and ask. That is exactly what I did with a Fenwick. Snapped a spinning rod first time out. Called them and said that I'd rather replace it with a casting rod...they simply replaced it at 'no cost' with a (next generation) baitcasting rod.

Agreed. In fact, a phone call and a photo might satisfy them without shipping anything. Was all I needed for two other manufacturers.

I'm not at all familiar with Maxima, but it appears that they make leader material for fly fishermen. I don't fly fish, but I would not be surprised if fly fishing leaders are designed/produced uniquely/specially from other lines in a brand's stable. However, ever since I first started seeing leader spools at TW, I've been a little cautious (suspicious?) I've not yet seen a manufacturer's claim that a brand's make/model leader is different than filler spool line of same make/model. Could be, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it is a sales/marketing 'trick', labeling regular line as leader, putting it on smaller spools and charging more. I have zero evidence to support that ....just all seems a bit weird. Even if it isn't exactly the same, is it really 'different' than anything else in their catalog? NOT driving four hours would be well worth the $20 shipping that Dobyns would charge. I guess, since that rod is worth zero right now unless you use the warranty, I'd look at it as getting a brand new Sierra for $80

I have a young relative who is currently in prison for.....stealing (and possessing) weapons from unlocked vehicles. I am continually amazed at how many guns are stolen from vehicles....AND how many of those vehicles weren't even locked. I had my console rifled one night a couple years ago when I accidentally left my truck unlocked in front of my house overnight. I was quite surprised that nothing was taken, especially since I probably had a few grand worth of rods, reels, lures inside. Didn't realize at the time, that they were almost certainly just looking for guns,... or possibly cash or keys

so true....couple weeks ago I casted and my attention was diverted while it dropped in 20 fow --- I was still holding the rod, but happened to look up and my line was cruising right past me -- probably traveled 20+ feet without me feeling anything

No clue, really...guess I'd try it with a 5XD and maybe 4-5" swimbaits - heavy spinnerbaits, too -- sounds like what I need for ledges using heavier spinnerbaits and med spoons
