Wind in a paddle kayak is a huge challenge for everyone. Certainly, some kayaks will perform better in windy conditions, but with more time on the water, the experience will improve gradually. When it is blowing good, you may just have to forego some targets and let the wind dictate where and when you fish to a large degree. An anchor system can help, but it does add a level of complexity. If you consider an anchor, I highly recommend you install an anchor trolley, which isn't expensive or hard. It will allow you to deploy anchor from bow or stern.

I have two MF rods under 7'. They are very different from each other, but both very useful. One is a good jerkbait rod, but I don't love it for much else. The other is my favorite small crank, popper, and blade bait rod. Like most of my rods, neither is exactly what I envisioned it would be when I bought it. Tie on a variety of different lures in or close to the rod lure weight rating and see how it performs for you. "rip the bait outta the fishes mouth" has never been a concern for me.

most of the time, especially with somewhat unfamiliar cover, I work outside in. More familiar laydowns, brushpiles and docks are different once you learn the nuances of the cover and how fish often relate to them.

I credit my wife for getting me into a 3-things 'system' when launching and recovering. Has made it easy to have a mental checklist since I'd have been lousy about consulting an actual checklist. She broke it down to 3 sets of three things....3 at the bow (tm strap, screens, safety chain), 3 in the boat (rope, pfd, key), and 3 at the stern (plug, straps, trim). And it has been smooth ever since.

Actually, I think that is the public reason. The real reason is because he has been playing like ass. And he played the coinflip as poorly. He very nearly gave the Panthers the ball to start both halves

@gimruis, you can use true GPS on your phone, even when no cell service is available. You may need to download your map or app prior to leaving cell service; and true GPS can be a battery drain, but the capability exists

My problem in fog hasn't really been about location...except the occasional lure thrown into overhanging trees. I am much more worried about irresponsible boaters going way too fast in the fog. Especially when I'm in a kayak. A foggy morning on Guntersville in a kayak is downright scary
