Bass Depth-Activity Level-Lure Choice
Randall that Perch reference made me think of something I hadnt thought of in years. When I was a in Colorado growing up, we did a TON of ice fishing for perch. I am reminded that every perch caught past about 25ft would have a distended air bladder in their mouth and you could not release them. It my experience bass seem to not suffer from this until about double the depth. Walleye/Perch guys, do they seem incapable of as dramatic a change as bass?

Daiwa Tierra Spinning Reel or Alternatives
The Tierra is an awesome reel. I dont think that there is anything for less than $200 that functions better. I have the SOL as well. Very nice reel, but I would by another Tierra given the choice.

Bass Depth-Activity Level-Lure Choice
Randall, that makes plenty of sense to me. I guess I thought that you/Mann were saying that they couldnt make those changes at all. I see that the point you were making was how far the could move vertically without affecting neutral bouyancy. I am sure that these fish that come way up are so positively bouyant that they must fight fairly hard to return to depth. It seems to me that given the motivation, a fish could move up as far as it wants, as long as the bladder would not expand so much as to prevent them from going back down. That depth to me, seems to be around the 40-50 ft mark. That seems to be the depth that I get fish that need to be sent back down with a weight. I do not fizz my fish. I didnt mention in my original post that you can clearly make out the bottom in 20+ ft of water at that lake. Good thread.

Need Help. Many Questions
with a low budget, i would stay away from limiting yourself to specific brands and find the boat that is in the best shape regardless of brand. you are probably gonna end up with a 20 year old boat and motor so you should try and find one that his been taken care of. A good way to do this is pay more attention to the seller than the boat. Generally speaking a boat that is in an old man's garage, with the garage being meticulously organized and clean will be an indicator that the boat was meticulously maintained as well. You could find a great name boat with a merc on the back that is sitting underneath an oak tree, full of leaves and acorns, that will cause you nothing but troubles. That being said, I run an 85 Sea Nymph with a merc 90 and it is a very very solid boat for its age. IMO the Sea Nymph hull is very nice but all of the "extra" stuff is low quality. That being lights, switches, carpet, etc. In my opinion, with a low budget, just shop hard for something well maintained, not something with the right stickers on it

Bass Depth-Activity Level-Lure Choice
I believe that bass can move up and down fairly far, very fast of their own accord. I am almost positive that I have had fish come from about 30ft down to eat a wakebait. One of these fish I saw on the graph, below a school of kokanee, motored past, turned around, casted out, reeled for about 10 seconds and got an 8-11. It was one really big arch, all alone, under the salmon. I really do not think that they are limited to as small a vertical range as some have suggested. MHO. As far the activity level being in direct relationship to the fishes postition in the water column, I declare shenanigans. Like Randall said, if the highest concentrations of bait are deep, that is where the active fish will be too. Hungry fish will be where the food is. Suspended fish can be dang tough, but they can be ridiculously easy too. When they are relating to large prey that is in open water, they can be downright violent. The lake where I was fishing when I caught that fish out from under that school, I almost always fish over 75+ feet of water during the warm months. Usually with a topwater but sometimes just swimming a bait mid column in 15-40 ft. I feel that my chances of getting bit, and it being a really big fish are much higher doing this than fishing the bottom in 40ft or topwater over 10ft. Sidenote: Raul, can the fish produce its own gas to fill its bladder? Or are they required to go to the surface should their needs exceed their stock?

Beat this!
What is that smell!? I know the exact one you are talkin about, and they all smell the same LOL. Plus that super fine glitter is a pain to wash off.

Hook recomendation for 7 in senko
its a good hook. i use them on the big senko just because it is such a fat bait. I dont feel that the throat on the owners is deep enough. Plus ive got them all over the place since they are the hook that comes with mission fish.

Hook recomendation for 7 in senko
I use the Gammakatsu G-Mag on the ultra rare occasion I throw a 7" senko. For all other big worms I use the Owner 7/0 and 11/0.

Christmas Joys
The only tackle making related item that I got was a ryobi router table and router. will really speed up the shaping process for me.

Do I really need a swimbait rod?
904C no questions. I dont like the Baby wake on anything other than a light swimbait rod, but its doable. all the others will work fine on a heavy flippin/punchin rod

Joining two lines again.
Thanks Kent!

Joining two lines again.
I only use one knot anymore. I run braid/flouro on 5 of my rods. I use the modified albright(aka alberto) knot. After spending a bunch of time using the uni to uni and the nail knot, this one outshines them BY FAR!. I like it for a few reasons : Strength: I honestly believe that this knot is stronger than any knot I tie on the terminal end ( palomar, uni, worlds fair) and much much stronger than the uni to uni. I believe that this is because the braid cannot cut into the flouro Size: By far the most low profile knot I have tried Slick: since there is no wrapped flouro, and no tag ends, it goes through guides and grass far better than any knot i have tried It is a pain to learn how to tie correctly, just because it is awkward, its a knot that requires all ten digits to tie ;D Once you figure out how to tie it efficiently, it is very easy to tie correctly. The more disparate the diameters/thinner the lines, the more wraps i use. With 10lb sufix braid and 10lb flouro, I use 7 up and 7 back. With 65lb braid and 26lb flouro, I go 5 and 5. Exiting the tag the same way you entered the loop seems critical. I dont use glue, and i cinch it very tight with lots of saliva. Make sure the wraps dont cross, and I trim the tag ends extremely close (<1/32"). For the flyfishermen out there this is a VERY handy knot for leader construction and such.

Soft SB Necessities
When it cvomes to scents dude, its probably that im lazy. Im sure they get you another bite here and there, and im sure they help hooksets and bait wear, but im just too lazy lol. on the rare occasiont that i do use them, I use pro cure. My hudd rigging is pretty intricate. I use the provided jig hook. Thats it. If I am throwing the rof5 i use a hook attached to the line tie with a split ring. I never use stingers on the 6" and very very rarely will i on the 8" and that is if I am fishing a spot/smallie lake. Stingers kill big largemouth imo.

time to remember...

I use 3:16 glue. I dont use scent/lube 90% of the time.
