300E is a strong, tough, smooth, big gear reel. 29 ipt, gear side aluminum plate, it's easily the winner IMO,

Go to BnM website.. Not the telescopic model, they have the 8' rods and longer with reel seats, and 2 piece blanks.. I clicked in the link above, it worked for me.. Telescopics are like long cane poles...gander mountain or cabelas may also have these rods or even a house brand that may work out.

You will be able to adapt quickly... I guess I should add, I have used Daiwa mag's and Shimano Centrifugal, but I can't imagine you having any problems with the lews either, especially with heavier Jigs..

Glad cows don't fly! I've seen B n M or N(Walmart & bps ) I'm not exactly sure on that brand name, however they have various lengths at 39.00 even BPS sells long sticks for crappie. Those rods are pre- built. Seems cheaper to do it that way then buy a rod blank and tape a reel to it! Maybe a rod builder has a ideal, but with shipping I can't image it being cheaper..

Quantum owned the Lews brand/ reel designs in at least mid- ninteys I had a few.. Made in Japan. They ( old model lews ) were discontinued and they (quantum) Re-worked the platform, engineering a new reel with IAR, a modern thumb bar, 5 point drag star, forged handle.. It's release was delayed a extra year due to problems... I bought one when they finally hit the market... It was also made in Japan like many other quantum reels in the mid/ late 90's..

Been using the full size, you can trim them back, snip the fork off... A versatile bait.. I have a few bags, can't say I have drop shot them however..

It's not just reels that have time/ cycle break parts/ designs... It was a older era that had pride in engineering items with long life/ user serviceable parts, etc.. There are Still Quailty well engineered items/ reels around, and based on the feedback I would say there's a lot of common agreement between posters, still, not one person has stated that any reel @ $ 1,000.00 has had a long life as of yet... You want a Quailty reel, with a potential to last for a couple decades? This type of thread is a great place to ask this exact type of question. I've heard the cardinal 4 was a tank of a spinner, never owned one or fished one..

It will be a great reel, if you crossover fish for salt/ brackish or bigger fish other than Bass. I used 4000 size reels for bass for years, however I do prefer the 1000 & 2500 sizes now. Even at it's spool size, it's still a light reel... Rod: 7' to 7'6" M or MH Just depending on your primary fishing waters. Nice reel !

All the stations, around here, like described above, would also carry, sell and install wiper blades, oil & had full service garages to boot... Yep, Quart Cans of oil..

So glad somebody else finally mentions "line drag" salt guys usually are aware, especially fishing for hard running, long lasting fish types. Around here, primarily I use very small diameter lines, for many tactics, I believe bigger line creates sound or maybe, unusal vibrations over a long cast. I can't prove it, but I know this, I catch considerably more fish with very thin mono/ hybrid type lines. Flipping is short work/ big line/ heavy cover. I've seen 0 impact there with bigger line. Seems most fisherman as was pointed out by RoLo, use light line for ease of casting or because of a thinner appearance in the water, some would agree, myself included that action of many baits would/ are enhanced.. I do not use braids, it's just my preference.

I prefer spinning for sure, but I just don't throw 3/8 very often on tube rigs... So, if I'm throwing a T-rig tube, 3/8 or 1/2 then yea, I'm using a BC set-up.. There's no reason you can't throw these on spinning, I just like lighter jig rigs myself.

Three years is nothing, Calcutta's from 90 are still working, Abu's round reels from the ice age are still around.. That's longevity !
