Sounds right, my Grandfather had a few smaller tanks he bought during the oil embargo, well, I guess thru out the 70's whereby he could ensure that he had fuel. It wasn't exactly a cost saving measure, but a convenience or perhaps to ensure he and extended family could access fuel. Geez, I remember stations out of fuel, with delivery, days away.. Tough times!

The Fracking industry may go bust before long, there is talk about oil as low as 10 a barrel.. However, these cheap prices will NOT last, if they make it thru summer I will be surprised. Folks get spoiled easy... It's going to be a quick rise(cost) as well. Texas, yup, they are going to crash. Again... Bubbles always burst...at any rate enjoy it while it last...

I wouldn't disagree with it being off topic either, however in post #12 you brought up the plastic worm along with the educated largemouth bass. So what level of education do you believe the largemouth bass has aquired to the point of plastic worms being more effective in the 70's & 80's?

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, but to the point about a plastic worm having a greater advantage in the 70's & 80's, but due to a largemouths exceedingly great ability to have become educated in this century I find to be a fairly inaccurate statement. In fact, ridiculous. The plastic worm has been & still is my favorite, most dependable Lure I have ever used. I use these plastic worms because they work.. Just as good now as they did in 1978 when I began to use them.

I certainly have heard quite a few disgruntled Gen. 3 owners.. Rarely have I heard much complaining on the Curado I or any other Shimano baitcaster for that matter. I use the "I" and it's a excellent reel. Not a single issue whatsoever.. Got my first, on release date. It's a fine reel at a great price.

This may not be helpful, but it does somewhat support your theory a bit. I use a 7' Avid ML spinning rod w/ a 1000 size reel, #6 nylon line. I throw 1/4 Pop "R" type baits. Also, throwing lighter weight Balsa minnow type baits. This rig throws these baits easily & far.. I have no issues hooking or landing fish. ( FLMB) As RW stated there is a big advantage in using a shorter rod to impart the needed action for jerk baits or walking the dog type baits. I prefer a softer tip w/ stronger backbone. This is my preference. Many do like extra fast for topwater. It can depend on who makes the rod and what claims they make on action. Size of bait and hooks should also decide your rod selection.
