Well I can't decide for you.. But. Make a go fast bag, put in your favorite 2 colors plastic worm some tungsten, hooks etc.. Add a couple 3 Rattlebaits or crankbaits, just consider your sea bag or garage as your tackle store & pull from it when needed or desired.. I once saw George Cochran win a BASS tournament with 3 baits in a small ziplock baggie. A spinnerbait, a shallow squarebill & a husky jerk.. The Rapala was the bait for him that week.

Sounds more like a design engineering issue than anything. Shimano has become testy on warranty claims the last 3 years or so.. Glad you got a replacement.

If folks are going to invest in auto inflation ( co2 cartridge actuated devices ) why not test them? Many never fire the life saving device, ever.. I'm of the opinion that they should be fired off & tested. Expense always seems to be the reason not to. I would say, skip the new crank baits, jigs, breakfast at Cracker Barrel, Starbucks coffee.. Anything, but test your device, your life may well depend on it.

Thousands of pits all over.. Big fish as well. I've waded & shore fished a bunch of them, put in Jon boats etc.. Get you a solid set of paper maps or some other mapping system. Plan a trip & start a journey of learning which water is viable. You are right to be concerned about gators.. But don't overlook rattlesnakes either, I've killed some huge ones. Coral snakes are around.. You may even encounter a black panther.. Just sayin..

Watch your line.. Slack line bite detection is the way I catch most of my soft plastic Bass. Tap, tap accounts for a few.. Bluegills, etc will tap your worm as well. A bass has no problem inhaling a bait. Bluegills try to take a bite out of it.

Personally, the last bait I would try & deflect off rocks or even wood would be Rapala DT series baits.. Bills are too fragile, plenty of better baits on the market nowadays. 6 to 8 feet depths are pretty solid & scaleface said it, it's pretty easy pickings around the bank areas, but you should chase schools of shad into the coves & try & catch those fish as well.
