Carpenter bees
Thought we had carpenter bees because I saw some bees going into some holes in my garage ceiling so we called a pest guy. Turns out they’re actually hornets using a hole made by carpenter humans lol

Recatching hooked and lost bass
About 10 years ago I was staying in a lakeside cabin with several docks that I would fish off of. My dad and I caught the same bass at least 4 times that week, and you could tell by how jacked up this fishes jaw was that it gets caught over and over and over again. Mouth completely deformed, a dozen holes in its face. Had to be the stupidest bass out there.

My Costa Sunglases.
Haha I’ve had the exact same experience with my Costas and putting them on my hat. I’ve almost lost them overboard a half dozen times because I forget they’re up there. I stopped putting them on my hat, so if they aren’t on my face they go back in the case inside my tackle bag. My only beef with them.

@ol'crickety so sorry to hear that. Heartbreaking. I have a senior dog myself, and she never let’s me out of here sight. I cherish every moment with her because I know we’re in the 4th quarter. You deserve a PB or 2 tomorrow morning. Good luck.

Adirondack/Capital Region Fishing Reports
Got into some real good prespawn fish today. Very cold and breezy out on the water but they were munching. This next month is the time!

So much line.. Help!!
Nylon would be my last choice for spinnerbaits haha far too much stretch for my liking. I make bomb casts with spinnerbaits in thick weeds and big game may as well be a bungie cord in that scenario.

Yeah this is THE time. And if you miss you gotta wait until next year to see the same caliber of fishing. FOMO is real!

This was a NY tank. 20.5”, scale flashing between 4.88-4.94. Soo close to being able to call it a 5. The spinnerbait bite is addicting. Especially big ones like this that set the hook back after you stick em.

@Way north bass guy excellent work. You seriously got a sweet set up there! @padlin raised beds are the way to go. Much easier to maintain and in my opinion a lot more appealing to the eye.

I said I was going to spend a lot of time throwing an A rig this year based on seeing you and @T-Billy slaying them with it, but never got around to getting the gear over the winter. Now that I have this one I will definitely be throwing it. I don’t love the hardware on it so I’ll do some tweaking but I’m excited to start huckin this thing. Still really looking forward to the shallow timber jig bite I get on every spring but it’s still a little too early. May should be all about the jig in shallow water. But the prespawn feed is definitely on!

COLD and breezy morning today, but a spring big girl came out to play! Fish were all in a chasing mood. Everything on a spinnerbait today. Surprise surprise, I know haha. A cold day and night yesterday had the fish backed off from the shallows so I was targeting depths of 6-8’ with sparse weeds coming in. And to top off a great mroning, my spinnerbait got tangled up on someone’s braided line, so I pulled up the braid and on the end of it was a fully rigged Yumbrella in perfect shape! Score! This is the time of year that I get extreme FOMO whenever I’m not on the lake. Even the tiniest window of time I’ll be on the lake. This lake has been extremely kind to me in only 3 trips here. It’s a little different from my normal clear/ultra clear water with lots of deep structure and changes in contour. This lake is a shallow, murky bowl type lake with minimal contour changes. But based on the first couple weeks of 2023 fishing, I think it’s gonna be a banner year!

Generally fluoro Will offer the most abrasion resistance, and will be your best bet around rocks. If the grass is only sparse, I would definitely be using fluoro.

Winter 2022-23
Briefly started snowing while I was working outside today. But we’ll be back in the 80°s Friday. Can’t remember a spring with weather this strange. Got pike and bass making beds at the same time.

30 yards is a lot of dirt. Hopefully you had a bucket loader for that. I’ve thought about doing sod in front yard but ended up just topdressing and seeding. I’ve done sod once for a customer and I didn’t love how it turned out so i generally push soil/compost + seed for my landscape customers now.

So I finally tested the IRod Genesis III Swimbait Jr., for $150 it is a great rod but not as moderate as I’d like, it doesn’t really load up on casts well. Any suggestions for a Swimbait rod that does?
I don’t think anyone means to s*** on OP, but OP seems to be overthinking everything so much that any advice given will be overthought to the point of creating a whole new set of problems and questions and it doesn’t seem to go anywhere. The advice received may answer one question but then create 10 more, over and over. OP, don’t take it too hard. I think people are just poking fun. If someone loses patience they don’t have to open the thread. The best advice I can give though is just go fishing and catch some fish and have fun at this point.

5 yards wasn’t quite enough. Have to tamp it down and add another yard or 2. Then it will be time to lay the weed fabric. Bare spot on the left is where I’ll be making a small paver patio for the grill and running an extension cord under ground.

@casts_by_fly sounds like you have a lot of work as well. Maintaining a lawn requires a lot of effort. We’re planting some clover as well. We have grass in the front yard but where there is lawn in the back we dont plant on having any grass. We’re planting clover, possibly some wild oregano, moss or other non-grass ground cover.

Back Seat Experiences
Yeah I’ve heard stories of bass guides fishing while their clients fish as well. That always blows my mind. I’ve only been on one guided bass trip in the states, and the guy never even touched a fishing rod. This is the way. If my guide all of a sudden started fishing for the same fish I was paying him to get me on, I’d let them know the only money I’m paying him would be half the cost of gas. If we’re gonna be fishing like buddies in a boat, I’m not paying guided prices.

Landscaping Projects
It’s that time in the Northeast again to get the yard ready for the nice weather. I really have my work cut out for me this year. My girlfriend and I moved into our new home last July, and we spent the next several months doing a lot of work to the inside like new floors, painting, etc. We saved all the outdoor work for this year, and the previous owners had neglected the backyard so it’s not in the best shape. Late last fall we took down the above-ground pool because the plan is to transform that spot into a garden and picnic area. Spent a couple hours pulling up buried pavers, scattered river rock, old weed fabric, and grading the dirt. Whoever the previous landscaper was, they had some interesting methods. I just got a delivery of 5 yards of fill to level it out. The plan is once the ground is leveled, we’re making the spot into a picnic area and an area with raised garden beds. The picnic area will have a table, grill, awning, and white marble stone as the ground, while the area with the raised garden beds will have natural mulch. Should look like a whole new yard when I’m done in a couple weeks. I’ll be sure to post progress pics and a finished picture. What landscaping projects do y’all have going this year?

Youtube vs Pros 2023
No it doesn’t really change how I look at them because there’s never been any doubt in my mind that some of them are seriously talented anglers. I think a lot of the old heads look down on them for a couple different reasons. Most youtubers are younger (<45) and some of them have obviously become pretty wealthy making fishing videos. I think that brings up some jealousies among certain crowds. Milliken seems like a cocky, insufferable tool but I can’t deny that he’s a seriously talented angler and user of FFS. Anybody who doubts that is just insecure or ignorant. Tactical Bassin is another channel that gets dumped on somewhat and I find this even more confusing. Both Matt and Tim seem like down to earth, humble guys who genuinely enjoy bass fishing, making videos and helping anglers. Even though I find them to say some goofy things that I roll my eyes at from time to time, there is no denying that they’re both extremely talented and knowledgeable bass fishermen.

From what I’ve heard their roe is popular as caviar though
