  1. Bubblegum holds a slot in my Senko box. When the water clarity is good but not great and they don't seem to be interested in darker colors, I'll put on a Bubblegum. That usually does the trick.
  2. While you can certainly do what you wish, be advised that there are 100's, if not 1000's of small bait makers trying to make a buck. I doubt most do. Some of them make some unbelievable stuff and still have to charge less than the big guys. As a hobby, go for it. To make money? No offense, but I doubt it.
  3. This. Might be one cast. Might be 30. Might be 1 lure or technique. Might be 3 or 4. Depends on situation.
  4. Ever hand-lined a fish in because the backlash was so bad? Lol...yeah. So have I
  5. I invented a rig many years ago when I had no idea what I was doing. I thought I was a GENIUS! Some of you may use the JadeRose rig but you may know it by a different name. Some call it the "Carolina Rig" ?
  6. Stik-O. Bout the only thing I buy from BPS anymore. I prefer them to the Senkos. More durable and better shimmy
  7. I don't own a DC reel because I don't want one. Easy answer and the only one I need. Not sure why this thread has such a hostile vibe. I guess if someone is worried about what gear I use, that's their problem, not mine
  8. Yep...as I said above....I knew who you were talking about but couldn't remember either!
  9. Whopper Plopper. Fancified buzz bait to me. Bought a few, threw them around. They foul easily and are just a PITA to me. I gave them all away. Also Wacky rigged Senko's. I HAVE caught a lot of fish on them but to me, it's boring as heck and almost TOO easy. Haven't thrown one in years
  10. I just looked and realized I've been on here for 6 years. I had no idea! I figure that being a part of this group for 6 years combined with my on-the-water experience in that time has moved my skill set forward about 10 years. Those extra 4 years off the backs of you guys experience is priceless Oddly enough I know who you mean but can't remember his name either. Great old Dude.
  11. Yep.....My sunglasses are always on when fishing and always wearing safety glasses when doing yard work and other stuff. Gotten to the age where I am no longer invincible, i.e. smarter
  12. 99% of the time I fish out of my Bass Raider on a very stumpy 80 acre MDC lake. It's very rare when I am more than 20-30 yards from shore or an area I can stand so I am rarely in too much danger, even if I fell in. One time a few years back I was up in Minnesota and quite aways from my dock or anything else when I noticed clouds rolling in and wind picking up a little. I hesitated a little too long. I started back and got about half way and was in the middle of the lake when all hell broke loose. Just in a little 14 or so ft v-bottom jon boat with a 10 horse OB. No weight in the front. Wind caught the front of the boat and took it what had to be close to vertical before it came back down. Driving rain, lightning, etc. Scared me half to death. I was in one of those positions where everything was equally far away and none of them were good choices. I made it back and decided the next day to maybe do a little site seeing instead of fishing. Whoooooo!
  13. I disagree. If you throw them all at the same time, that's a lot of hooks in the water that's bound to get something! Use a 26.3:1 reel and BURN them babies back in after casting them 300 yards
  14. Yep..me too and it is like an extension of my central nervous system. Hand down my favorite rod. You already got the reel...get the rod, too
  15. I fish to enjoy the great outdoors doing something that I have found I love to do and am willing to spend the time, energy and money necessary to get reasonably decent at. I also do it to escape the modern world and all of it's trials and distractions. For that reason, I do not carry a camera, phone, scale, or any such thing with me when I am fishing. My personal best (that I know of) is 9.3 lbs and the only reason I know that is that I was bank fishing when I caught her and a guy close to me had a scale and wanted to weigh her. Beyond that, I am thrilled with every fish I catch. I practice C&R and return fish to the water as quickly as I possibly can. I smash hook barbs to make this easier on me and the fish. Have I missed fish because of this? Maybe. I dunno. I don't fish tournaments nor am I chasing records. I just don't care about any of that. NONE of this makes me feel "morally superior" or any such nonsense, nor do I have any opinion about those who do, so long as they are fishing lawfully and ethically. If you did your best to release that fish and she swam away under her own power and did not float to the surface after a bit of time (which based on your concern, I'm sure you watched) you can be reasonably at peace with the premise of her survival. All we can do is our best. Most times, that's great. Sometimes, it isn't and we learn from mistakes. Be a good steward and all will be well.
  16. I'm making the assumption we are talking about an unweighted Senko. As someone said above, a Senko weighs about 3/8's of an ounce so you can thrown them pretty far. I realize that not everyone has access to great open shoreline or a boat but my opinion (and it is only that..an opinion) still stands. If DID need to do that, I would use a spinning reel with very light braid.
  17. I don't pretend to know everything about bass fishing but to me, the idea of needing to bomb a Senko on ANY gear just tells me you are using the wrong lure for the application. I can't imagine a situation where I would need to cast a Senko over 20 yards and that's kinda stretching it
  18. Two daughters. Most likely, neither will ever fish again. BUT, we had fun when they were young. I HATED taking them fishing until I learned a very valuable lesson. When fishing with children, forget fishing yourself. It ain't about you. and if you make it about you, they will have a miserable time and so will you. My daughters loved catching Sunny after Sunny for about an hour...tops. When they were done, they were done. I didn't try to push it or tell them they were "doing it wrong". They weren't and they wouldn't have cared if they were. They were doing something with Dad. THAT'S what they remember. Nor "personal bests" or any of the stuff we care about.
  19. Spike-It is a fine product. JJ's is better. About twice as strong and colors baits better. Unless I'm doing a very quick bait change, all my soft plastics get tipped in JJ's. And then eventually, you will get inducted into a club you don't want to be in......The club of "People That Have Spilled JJ's". Spilled a bottle in my garage 2 or 3 years ago and still catch whiffs of it occasionally!!
  20. Color absolutely does not matter.......... .....until it does
  21. Hula Popper is a fine lure and is part of my every day top water arsenal. If I need to throw a popping type lure, it's the first one I tie on. There are more modern ones that cost way more money but why?
  22. I didn't mention that I lost 3 jigs yesterday but I attribute that to the learning curve and developing a "touch"
  23. Same....finally managed to bore it's way into my thick head
