  1. Going out tomorrow and will be a single bait day. Taking 2 rods.......one for nothing but tubes. I haven't spent a lot of time with them and I think it's time I learned about them. Will be Texas rigging them, throwing weightless, drop shot, etc. And my frog rod. Gotta take my frog rod. Any tube pointers to throw my way? I've watched Glenn's excellent tube videos and even bought some of the Shaw Grigsby Tube hooks because of it. I really like those.
  2. You can't give them ANY slack. What speed reel are you using? One you hook up, you gotta get them outta there fast and not give them ANY slack or you will lose that fish 9 times outta 10
  3. You've lost 3 froggin fish THIS YEAR and you're complaining? Either you don't frog that much or you are the greatest Froggin Master the world has ever known. I miss at least that many every time I go out and I consider myself a pretty good frogger with about an 80% hookup ratio. Keep on keepin on. I've had days I lost that many frogs..let alone fish
  4. I've yet to meet anyone from the North Woods of Minnesota that I didn't like.
  5. Good Lord......dump out the box...clean everything up, air it out, put everything back. go fishing. Life goes on I doubt it would even cross my mind to throw stuff away
  6. Wait'll you have one knock your frog about 5 ft in the air! All you can do is laugh
  7. Yes it will be. I virtually guarantee it. Survey your fishing habits. Think about those things that you'd LIKE to do and don't really have the setup to do it. Frogging......punching......lighter finesse stuff....what ever it is that your current setup doesn't do or can't do well and buy a setup for THAT. 3 years ago I carried ONE rod and laughed at the guys that carried a bunch of rods. Now I don't leave home without at least 3 and usually 5. Get another multi-purpose setup but make it a multi purpose that is DIFFERENT than your current set up. Make sense?
  8. A couple years ago a guy I used to work with gave me some old rods and reels he had. Nothing special and I used them as trade in bait at BPS except for this one 5"6" pistol grip rod. It had a foil label that was pretty well worn out except I could make out Fuji. The reel seat is an old slotted screw down type with gnarled edges for finger tightening. Also Fuji. It has really nice old school guides. It's pretty stout but it has a nice soft tip.....about a medium. I finally got around to cleaning it up today and threw a Pro Qualifier I had laying around on it. Now I have a nice "new" top water/jerk bait rod! It's heavy and it's gonna take me a bit to get used to the pistol again but I LIKE IT!! Wouldn't wanna throw it all day every day but for what I'm gonna use it for, it's perfect! YAY ME!!! Anyone know if Fuji ever made or branded rods? I can't find anything on line.
  9. Yeah...that's exactly the reason. At least this is exactly the reason I tell the wife. It has NOTHING to do with the fact that we just like gear.
  10. To me and where I fish the most, there are 2 types of fishing. Hollow body froggin and everything else. The lake I fish the most has a LOT of little fingers and little areas that are FULL of surface muck. Without a frog about 1/3 to 1/2 the lake would be shutoff to me. I typically start the day fishing everything else until the sun gets high in the sky and then I switch to a frog and the REAL ACTION starts. Those big girls go up into those grarly areas and just lie in wait for me to throw my frog in there and then KABOOM! The fight is on. The closest thing to hand to hand combat you can have with a fish. I LOOOVE it. BUT...more than just thinking it's a hoot, it is also very very productive. Do NOT give up on Frogs and top water in general. When that bite is on, NOTHING is more productive and will produce some huge fish. My PB is ALSO on Top water as I suspect a lot of guy's are.
  11. This whole thread is EXACTLY why I don't mess with trying to get into the tournament racket. Nothing against it I just have a very stressful job that keeps me very very busy. While I am VERY serious about my fishing, it will never be a job for me. My job is what I do....A Fisherman is who I am. I'm not above a friendly wager or 2 when on the water with a buddy but nothing more than that.
  12. I was having pretty bad shoulder pain....especially after fishing. I have a little bass raider I tool around in on my local 80 acre lake. Stern mounted Trolling motor. The pain got so bad I went to the Dr. who said I had arthritis and stuck me on Mobic. Fast forward a week or so and I went back out...BUT...this time I turned the head on my trolling motor around and mounted it on the bow. Pain gone.....no more Mobic. No arthritis. Just took changing up what I was doing a little.
  13. Lotsa folks I'd like to spend a day with but if I had to pick just one.........Hootie. I just think that would be a fun day
  14. I think you are going to have to make the measurements yourself.
  15. Note to self...never go fishing with Dave
  16. I would expand on this a bit.....you were the last one off the lake as you watched the storm roll in because it turned the bite on and only went in when you saw the lighting flash and THEN listened to the podcast and were GLAD the other people that were also on the lake left because when the rain quit...(Which you knew it would)...you had the lake all to yourself because one of the guys that was there before was in your honey hole and when you went to it after the rain they were SLAMMIN!!! Not that this very specific situation has ever happened to me in the last 3 weeks!
  17. I use 30 PP and I throw in some major slop and cover. Never had a problem but do what you gotta do
  18. If your wife (or husband or whatever..no judgement here...lol) goes with you to your fave lake and you are the only ones there and she decides to get frisky and you decline because the "bite is on". of course, I wouldn't know anything about that.
  19. I use PPSS8. Love it and never saw any reason to change.

The ones I use are. 6" Custom maker

This is pretty much exactly how I use them. I use a PB&J Brush Hog made by a little guy here in MO and they just kill. Big bait but it gets hammered.
