Maryland's Who's who!
I had mallows on my 31st trip agenda as I work back north. I am going south just to get a better scope of the river. Right now I only know from Swan Creek to Quantico. Both times I tried to run past Quantico I got stuck in some really nasty stuff coming back. The river can be really rude in a variety of conditions.

Maryland's Who's who!
How was it? One of my thoughts was to run south to fish nanjemoy, aquia, and Potomac creeks.

Maryland's Who's who!
Nice! I hopeas to be out the 17th and 31st. 1st tourney is April 17. Am I wrong to want to stay away from the mobs? I have only been on the river for 5 trips last year and have only fished 5 or 6 areas. I don't mind company but I do mind 40 boats all fighting over 1 patch of gravel. This will be my 1st full season on the river so I am ready to learn.

Maryland's Who's who!
Marshy hope Had to keep the boat on that side of the bridge bc the talon and jack plate are being installed this week. I will be all Potomac after that is done. The marshy hope trip was just to feed the monkey and test out my arm. SPEAKING of which, my arm is sore but no more than usual so I am taking it as a win. Where have you been on the Potomac? Seeing any grass? I am really itching bad to go check my spots in the Chick.

Maryland's Who's who!
We managed a few good ones today. Water 40_43deg. My arm was ok at best. Setting the hook like a little girl. I have a month to get it going before money is on the line.

Maryland's Who's who!
Thanks man, my reeling arm still isn't right, I have about 70% usage back. I gotta ease into it though. April starts the tournament season and I have to be ready to go. I will use trips on the 10th, 17th, and 31st to get it used to cranking and driving the boat and all. I am nervous but I can't wait any longer to test it. Fingers crossed.

Anyone have any Potomac news? My 1st trip out is March 17th. All my tournaments are on the Potomac this year so I am fired up to get started.

Ideas for a new Rod/Reel
In this scenario I would use a 6-6 to 7ft MHF of your choice. It would do spinnerbaits, trigs, and square bill cranks pretty well. When I fish around laydowns I want enough in the rod to move the fish away from cover but not too much I am pulling hooks out when cranking. You can get away with a MF rod as long as the spinner baits and trigs are on the lighter side. A 6-6 helps with roll casting under overhangs and to tight shoreline targets. Again the market on decent multipurpose rods is vast. Enjoy your search

Ideas for a new Rod/Reel
It may help to know what cover you are fishing regularly as well as the average size fish you are dealing with. IMO that info could change recommendations from members. The tournament angler may advise different from the weekend guy as well. The market on 100 rods that will do what you need has blown up which leaves you 150 for a decent reel. Use online shops like Tackle Warehouse to look at rod offerings from each company in the 100 to 125 range and go from there. 250 can spend well once you narrow your search down. Take a look at a lews custom speed stick mag bass 1 and a 7 ratio lews reel. Good luck.

Maryland's Who's who!
I used to love cold water pikein. My 2 favorite ways to catch em were a 1/4oz ruby lip buck tail trimmed and tipped with the biggest bull minnow you can get, and a j9 rapala. The head waters of the Magothy river tributaries have loads of nice fish. Many lures that will catch them good but the 2 above were $$.

Susquehanna River Bass Fishing
I fished alot up near the Juniata. Big O crank baits and Mizmo tubes were king. In the colder water early spring a jerk bait and small hair jig with a small leech style trailer produced many in the 4lb class.

BPS stores
I live 10 min from BP and I use it for immediate refills on plastics, terminal, or any item I want to implement next trip. Online stores are used for specific/specialty items. I can put 90% of my needs in my hands as soon as I want them. Pair that with my rewards and it is just easier/better than an online order. I bet in the last 3 years I have used 3 or 4 hundred dollars in reward points. I was going to buy those items anyway so points back on it works for me. I have 20 some bucks right now in rewards just from restocking rage baits this winter. BP has double and triple points regularly as well. Sorry other people stores suck but mine is perfect for me. My 3yo daughter loves going with me too.

The Best Chatterbait Setup for $300
I really like my lews custom speed stick mag hammer. Soft tip w good backbone. I use my tournament mb with it and it does really well. 15lb big game line. Very light for all day chucking if needed. I could get away with a lesser set up but this combo feels great and performs flawlessly. So many bladed jigs to choose from so that is an open door.
