  1. lol. You have a much higher likelihood of being or killed in a car accident then shot.
  2. I honestly believe that a lot of the suggested replacement dates are more for sales and less because of actual necessity. Like oil changes every 3,000 miles when it's now understood that you go about 6,000 miles per oil change. And how they recommend you need to change a bullet resistant vest every 5 years because of sun snd sweat damage which will breakdown the vest. Really? Do we change seatbeltd every 5 years for the same reason? They are arguably in the sun far more.
  3. I believe it. I save money by using the same braid for over 6 years. I doubt you can do the same with mono or fluro though.
  4. That seems like lot of work. lol. From advice on here I just put on electrical tape over the spool and then the braid. It's worked great so far. I have Power Pro on my first Baitcaster that is 6 years old and still going strong.
  5. Thanks. Problem solved. It was the oil cap. I replaced it and tilted it fully for 20 mins. No leaking. It used to leak almost immediately. The shop guy said it will leak after 1/2 a day but shouldn't leak before that unless it gets really hot. He said normal tilting shouldn't cause it to leak. I sprayed everything down with Simple Green and then cleaned it off. Worked well. Thanks for the advice.
  6. So all summer long when I opened up largemouth bass I found 3 things. Senko type stickbait worms, crawfish, and a few minnows. But about 1/3 of the fish I filleted had these in them. Now that I've decided to keep a few again I've noticed that all of their stomachs are empty. I know that bass are supposed to be putting on the feed bag for winter. The 3 I kept today were good sized fish. All about 1.3lbs. With winter coming on shouldn't these fish have something, anything in their stomachs?
  7. Don't feel bad, pitching and flipping are two techniques that I wasn't able to master this year. Hopefully practice in the winter and be good in the spring.
  8. I figured only the length changed, not actual diameter also.
  9. There is definitely a difference in diameter between 4", 5", and 6" inch Senkos which is weird.
  10. Ok. Well, I just purchased one of the long shaft Booyah ones at Cabelas like yours. They are on sale for $1.99. I'll see how they go. I take it you like the long shaft ones? Do you get less misses?
  11. Not sure about part of this. Many of my biggest fish have been caught on topwaters. My KVD Sexy Dawg and Cavitrons usually pull in good fish.
  12. I only have one goal. To catch a big musky, 40"+ and then I don't care if I ever catch another one.
  13. What you could do is get a bigger anchor for the front and a smaller one for the back and use one of thse cheap anchor pulleys for each so you can use them both from your sitting position and it's better on your back. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Anchor-Pulley/700040.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch%2F%3FN%3D%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Danchor%26Ntx%3Dmode%252Bmatchallpartial%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts%26form_state%3DsearchForm%26recordsPerPage%3D80%26search%3Danchor%26searchTypeByFilter%3DAllProducts%26x%3D0%26y%3D0&Ntt=anchor&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products
  14. Yep. Hate the wind. Especially since I love topwater fishing. I also like fishing docks so skipping Senkos under them can be hard with waves and the boat moving. My next boat will have 2 Power Poles, that's for sure.
  15. I'd make sure to have sharp hooks. This bass smacked at this topwater and would have not gotten hooked but the hooks were super sharp. You can see that the hooks are all in its cheek.
  16. This is how I hold my rods. I have 2 Cabelas Tournament ZX rods, a St. Croix Mojo Bass, and a Gander Mountain rod. I've found that I get a callous on my left hand middle finger. Sometimes it hurts but not too much. This is with any rod that I have. Is there another way to hold it that's more comfortable but still as useful? (I did have a St. Croix Rage baitcasting rod that I loved but it always pinched a nerve in my finger and sent shooting pain up my arm. After getting rid of it I never had the problem again.)
  17. I think mostly bluegill, bass, and crawdads. I've never heard or seen shad in this lake. It's in the Twin Cities, which is central MN. 1,268 acres with an avg depth of 8 feet and maximum of 37. Lots of big muskies in it. Don't know what type of lake it is.
  18. Great info, thanks! Way too weedy in this local lake for any type of crankbait. That's why we use topwaters and Senkos. Also, no shad in this lake.
  19. What's the point of the really long shaft?
  20. I actually had a miss today on my 2nd cast with a KVD Sexy Dawg. I set the hook and the lure went about 6" inches. I let it sit and then gave it a twitch after about 5 seconds and it hit again. I've fished this lake for 6 years and didn't know that it had smallmouth in it. This was about a 1lber.
  21. So I remember reading that the fall time is one of the best times for bass fishing because the bass are looking to put weight on for winter and also come into the shallows to feed. Well, it's been getting cold for awhile here in Minnesota and the fishing has gotten worse. Way worse. Before that we were catching like 10 fish in the evening as the sun went down on buzzbaits and topwater and quite a few during the day also. The last 2 times we caught 2. What's also strange is that we didn't catch any fish on Senkos under the docks for about a month but just started catching them again, maybe it's the fall thing coming in shallow. But the last 6 years we kept catching them shallow until we stopped fishing at the end of the season. So, what's going on? Where is this awesome fall bite?
  22. I did try immediately throwing a Senko out there once after a missed hit and caught the bass. I've also done it and not gotten anything. Just seeing what the SOP with other guys is.
  23. I've had bass miss buzzbaits and my KVD Sexy Dawg before. Normally I quickly make another cast past it and try to catch it again. If that doesn't work then I grab my spinning rod which is usually set up with a Senko or Super Fluke and toss it to where the strike was. I was wondering if I should instead quickly toss a Senko or Super Fluke or something at the spot where the miss was instead immediately rather then try another pass with the original lure first. Do you toss a different lure immediately if a bass misses a topwater and if so, what lure?
