  1. Exactly. When your motor is not connected to the trailer via transom saver your lower unit is taking no shock. When you turn your boat and trailer into one unit via a transom saver you will be transferring shock into your lower unit. So Fishing Rhino's unit with an inch of shock absorption should help. Which is exactly why his transom saver unit has built in shock protection.
  2. +1 on the best charger you can get. I researched all of the big brands, Minn Kota, Dual Pro, Pro Mariner, and ended up with a Dual Pro. I got the most expensive one. I have screwed up batteries and it never fails to charge them quickly. A quicker charging charger also helps if you forget to plug in your boat and have only a short time to charge it before you go fish or you are fishing one trip after another.
  3. I am very pleased with Cabelas Tournament ZX rods that go for $100. I've had great success with their baitcasting and spinning rods, the baitcasting being the Topwater Frog model and the spinning rod being the Drop Shot rod. They both appear to be very versatile, I actually use both rods for all of the fishing I do. I got all of my rods when they were on sale for $69. I plan on getting another baitcasting rod when they inevitability go on sale again. I'm looking for a rod that can most likely be used for pitching and other applications. But I was also thinking about getting a rod in the medium to medium heavy range. All of the current ZX rods I have feel like they are actually a weight class lower then they are, which is one of the reasons I really like them. The heavys feel like medium heavies and the medium heavies feel like mediums. They have these rods: TZXC-69M 6'9" Jerkbait/Topwater Fast 1/4-3/8 M Regular Price: $99.99 Limited Stock TZXC-73H 7'3" Topwater Frog Fast 1/4 to 1-1/4 H Regular Price: $99.99 Limited Stock TZXC-71MH 7'1" Spinnerbait/Swim Jig Fast 1/4-5/8 MH Regular Price: $99.99 Limited Stock TZXC-72MH 7'2" Jig & worm X-Fast 3/16-5/8 MH Regular Price: $99.99 Backorderable TZXC-79H 7'9" Swimbait/Umbrella Rig Mod. 4. I have 3 Wake Baits now, a Biovex Amp, Rapala Waking Minnow, and Arashi Wake bait. When I use them, they all sort of go under and then back to the surface. Even when reeled slow with a high rod tip. I thought they were supposed to run just below the surface, creating a wake and bulge. How are Wake Baits supposed to run?
  5. No. This one doesn't float. It sinks. But it catches a lot of fish on the sink too.
  6. I'm trying this single stinger hook on my Ragetail Toad solid body frog.
  7. Cool. Thanks. Both those method use a treble hook. I am going to stick with my single trailer hook with weed guard and see how it works.
  8. Here's an interesting article on doing just that: http://www.***.com/a-weedless-approach-to-prop-bait-fishing/
  9. Wouldn't that have to be a long, long shank treble hook?
  10. That is a sweet rig. What exact model is it and what extras did you get?
  11. This year has been great for topwater, I wonder if it will be the same next year.
  12. I've always had great customer service with them too which is why I will always be a loyal customer.
  13. I've never had great success with hollow body frogs like Spro Frogs and such until recently when I had some success with a Savage Gear 3D frog. Although I haven't had success with it since. However, I always had great success with Ragetail Toads. On the retrieve or on the sink they plain just catch fish. I've tried Zoom Horny Toads, Stanley Ribbett Frogs and such but nothing has ever worked like the Ragetail. It's the #2 top producer for me. The problem is that I only have about a 70-80% hook up ratio with it in the pads and grass. In the open water it's pretty good at hooking them. And I do sharpen the hooks often. So, I decided to try a trailer hook on it. I don't want the trailer hook to get caught up so I am only using a 4/0 Gamakatsu springlock hook which keeps it closer to the head and when I add the trailer hook it pulls it in closer to the body instead of having it trailing way behind. And the trailer hook is a 1/0 size. It's sort of tucked in between the legs. I am going to try to make a rubber weed guard for the trailer from tubing or heat shrink and I always skin the main hook. We'll see how it goes. Has anyone else tried a trailer hook on a solid body frog before? I'll post a review after I'm done trying this experiment.
  14. I've never gotten the walking action down either even after watching many videos. I have only gotten them on hollow bodies on the initial splashdown. My friend was using a hollow body and he just cast and would slowly retrieve it making a little wake. He got like 7 good bites the day we fished and landed 3. I wonder if he had a trailer hook if he would have landed more.
  15. Cool. Look forward to your review.
  16. I have a 18' Crestliner Fishawk and have a 80lbs. Terrova which works well. Trolling motors and motors are like boats, you'll never regret getting the biggest one you can afford.
  17. If you can safely do it with the motor all of the way down, do it that way. But be sure that it's got plenty of clearance. Sometimes if your close to the ground and go up or down over something your motor can hit. I use a small block, rubber, block-style transom saver called a M-Y Wedge. http://www.m-ywedge.com/ The reason I use this and not a traditional transom saver is that the traditional ones can't be good for your motor. Think about this, have you ever gotten to the lake or back from the lake and noticed that your trailer winch strap is loose? That means your boat shifted forward. It happens all of the time. Your boat will shift independently of the trailer since they are two separate objects. Well, if you are driving and go over a bump and are using a traditional transom saver your boat will want to keep moving forward while the trailer is going backward. It will transfer all of that force from the trailer into your motor's lower unit and against the hydraulics. That can't be good for your motor or transom.
  18. Cool. Thanks. I'll check it out.
  19. Me too! Problem is I ended up with a whole bunch and don't know which tackle boxes they go to. lol.
  20. No problem bud. I wasn't trying to say anything. I just read it 3 times and couldn't figure it out.
  21. I saw this lure in a video and a guy was using it for pitching. I guess this plastic was made with input from Dean Rojas. So, does anyone have any experience when the Big Bite Baits Fighting Frog?
  22. I wonder which one your trailer running lights is? My trailer lights all work but not when hooked up to my truck. When hooked up to my truck all of the trailer lights except the running lights work. I got a tester and it's bad from the truck. Hooked the trailer up to my friend's truck and everything ran great. I'll have to check the fuses.
  23. Did you mean, "What scares me is that I have never seen so many reels that are hardly used being sold by owner"?
