Whopper Plopper Size=Success?
I just donated a WP to the lake last Friday, but not before solidly hooking three fish! Should have checked my line, 50# braid broke. I have noticed that if I start my retrieve with my rod tip really high the plopping action will start right away. I then lower the tip in anticipation of the strike. The strikes vary from a slurp to a heart-stopping explosion! Be ready for a strike really close to the boat or shore. Don't pick it up too soon! Not sure color matters, except dark and light. Fun lure, for sure!

Backlash help please!!
It excels when you need to cast a very light lure a long distance. Out here in CA the bass go into a feeding frenzy pushing shad schools to the surface. You need to cast to where this happens, and you need to cast NOW. Very light flukes are often key in this scenario.

Backlash help please!!
Backlashes or overruns happen when the spool turns faster that the line is going out. Line needs to pull the spool. When the lure hits the water you must stop the spool!

Homemade lure retriever
Get a galvanized bucket handle and wrap it around a large bolt. Tap it around with a hammer to make the tight bend. Put one end in your pole and wedge it with a screw. See mine in the background:

Drop Shot Rod for Small Topwater/Jerkbaits?
OK, I see some problems. I would say no if you are using braid. Walking a bait or jerking a bait can leave loose loops of line on a spinning reel. If you are using mono or FC, then go for it, but small would be the operative word.

What types of baits would you use this rod for?
If it has micro guides the bottom one tends to break off. Fishes just as well without it.

Leader knot issue
The FC is not slipping, the braid is cutting the FC! The two are direct opposition to each other with the uni/uni. Bad Idea from the start. I lost several fish on the hookset before I changed to "improved" alberto; my own improvement. I wrap back through the original loop twice.

Just don't put a small nail weight in one end of the worm. That never works.
