Lowrance Structure Scan
I'm color deficient (not color blind) and I use the high contrast blue/white for sides can and the black/white for downscan. The yellow/black is used in some light conditions.

Help Reading A Bathymetric Map
I would also go for the stepper bank to the left of the dam. Any time you see a concentration of contour lines. That's s ledge or drop off where the fish can go shallow to feed then quickly drop off to deep water for safety....

Overhead Or Wall Rack For Rod/reel Rigs
I built a home made ceiling rack to address my surf rods (9-13') and flipping sticks (8') then took the Berkeley vertical rack idea and built my own (all built out of 1x4) with the rods spaced to accommodate the reels... But I've got a 24x30 2 story shop out back so room wasn't a concern....

Time Management - Color & Bait Choices
I've cut it back to eliminate some options to maximize efficiency. Soft plastics, worms, creatures, purple pearl, or watermelon. Swim baits- shad or chartreuse. Cranks- shad, chartreuse, or a red (rapala demon) Spinner baits, white, chartreuse or black. I base selection on water color. If they can't see i . They probably won't hit it. Since going through this simplification, my numbers and sizes have significantly increased this season. Of course my confidence has also....

Skipping Baits
My favorite is a whacky rigged senko. I use a MHX sj783. It's 6'6", a stradic 2500, 10' fireline crystal with flouro leader. Skipping 60'+ to the back of docks is no problem. I will use this rig with 1/4oz jigs and can skip 30'+ easily...

How Do You Chose Costa Sunglasses?
My first pair are wave killers in amber. I've had them 14 years and wear them daily. They are the best all around fishing color. I have another pair of wave killers in sunrise for low light conditions and they really maximize light for those conditions. I have another pair of wave killers in blue mirror for open water. Before buying the first pair I closely watched the fisherman around me to see which brand and costa was the most prevalent amongst the better fishermen.

Need Help Fishing River Tidal Water
There are some great articles on this topic. We fish tidal waters in se Virginia. Low tide is actually easier as the fish are Concentrated. Look for cypress trees near deep water. Fish all submerged timber or laydowns. Primarily we fish June bug soft plastics and yellow based cranks due to the tannic acid....

Craziest Thing You Ever Done Because Of Fishing
Waded 550 yds (a guy used his range finder to see how far we went) offshore at The Point in Hatteras chasing drum. When drumming you wear a bait box on your wader belt to keep nice bloody chunks of bunker so you can fish several baits. My buddy Puppy Mullet is 6'4". I let him go first (human depth finder) as we're wading out I notice a 6' sand tiger shark about 20' behind Puppy (I was about 30' behind him) I let him know about our wading partner and he hit it on the head with his heaver and it swam off. When we got to the bar I commented about how the water sloshing through the bait box probably left a nice chum slick. He then said it wasn't a problem as he kept his bait in a zip lock bag in the bait box. He noticed the look on my face and asked if my (non existent) zip lock was keeping my bait from getting mushy..... I then realized, I was the one chumming.... Another time we were on Ocracoke. It was after midnight and he caught a car hood size clear nosed ray. It was warm and we were out there in shorts and no shoes. We decided to get a picture of him holding the ray by the nose to get good picture. As the flash went off on the camera I notice the ray was having babies... Them little rays came out rolled up like a burrito. As soon as they hit the wash they unfolded and raised their tails with the barbs up. We froze.... Lucky none of us got stung... I've got a bunch of stories about crazy things you see in the surf......

Ok People, Out With It!
Senko, popper and slow fished cranks in se Virginia.... Biological pattern seems normal

Senko Type Baits Are Off My List.
Educational thread... I've caught more fish on senko then anything else. Either pegged or unweighted trig skipped under docks or brush overhangs. Rigged whacky and skipped into the center of downed trees. Unweighted, tossed (I prefer to skip as I think it looks like baitfish scattering and it does attract fish from some distance) up on grass and pulled to edge, let sink. I do use scents. Rarely do I fish to boat. 2-3 "hops", reel and repeat....

Has Anyone Ever Seen These Hooks?

How Would You Fish This Lake?
Before it gets bright, fish the deep water sides of the cypress and the area in between the trees with top water or shallow (dt6) cranks. Once the sun gets up Fish the shady side of the cypress nearest the deep water. I prefer a weightless senko. If the cypress has any brush growing at its base skip the senko under the brush. Your conditions are a mirror of the black water lakes and estuaries in eastern Virginia. Best colors for that around here is junebug, black or chartreuse pumpkin.

What To Do When Bass Hit But Dont Eat The Lures
I usually see that with soft plastics by having too small of a hook. Tourney last weekend, was catching on t-rig senko. I broke off and noticed that the water was clearing up. I went to a 1/0 instead of the 4/0 hook I had been using. Missed 3 straight. Went back to 4/0 and boated the rest of my strikes...

Pitching With Braid And Flouro Leader

Bridge Pilings / Courtesy
Also, most bridges have a lighting system, many times it is high voltage, avoid conduits and any metal railings under the bridge.... Up here in Virginia our major bridges have a high security rating and you cannot moor to them in any manner. They all also have cameras and work with marine fisheries. ....

Need Help Picking A Blank
I have built 5 of the mhx sj843 ( 2 for me).. It is a great inexpensive, sensitive blank. Mudhole does offer kits, but I prefer Fuji guides and reel seat. A friend has been building rods for 30 plus years and he claims never having to replace a Fuji guide.....

Rod Torque A Bass Issue
Is taught isctf... Inside curve to fish In other words spline your rod and put the soft side to the fish. The scrim in the blank will have a naturally softer side. With that toward the fish, the rod has no reason to be under torque. I'm not against the acid wrap, but we tried it on surf rods and comparing that to using the soft side of the spline to the fish we noticed no difference in torque effect between the acid wrap and giving the fish the soft side....
