Central Florida Tough Fishing
What is the weather like down there? Are you having cold fronts or just colder temps than normal? Up here in the Northeastern US we are having alot warmer temps than usual. I already got my rod restrung and am ready to start fishing for smallmouths.

Geico Bassmaster Classic
My opinion on KVD is he probably spends more time these days doing seminars, consulting with tackle manufactures, endorsing products, and other obligations that are more about his name and prior success at fishing than he spends time fishing and learning new techniques. If he never wins another tournament he will still make lots of money. His current performance on the tournament trail is a result of his fame. There are only so many hours in a day and his are probably taken up with things other than preparing for the next lake. I like the Tiger Woods analogy and believe that this is probably part of the problem as well. Fishing, like golf, is a solo sport where preparation is everything.

Geico Bassmaster Classic
Shocked me when I saw he pulled in 29 pounds. Nobody was near that. Did he say what he was using, where he was fishing?

Just Got My First Flippin Stck...What Now???
I like to use beavers, worms and tubes in submerged trees and anywhere you need a slimmer bait. Jigs with bulky trailers in muddy water to displace more water and put out more vibration.

Overcomplicating things
Awesome collection. Looks exactly like my first tackle box and lure collection from the late 70's and early 80's.

Spinnerbait and Fluke recommendations.
Its been posted before but terminators T-1s ain't cheap but will last a long time. The arms don't bend or break and the skirts have built in collars which means they will not have to be replaced every year. I've heard Strike King Burners are good too.

Early Spring Crankbaits
My personal favorite is a Norman Little N in Spring Craw. It runs about 4-6 ft. and in the spring we focus on rocks. On sunny days the clear water lake that I fish at allows sun to penetrate and hit the rocks. Bass hang out around rocks that radiate warmth. That crankbait dives at just the right depth to hit those rocks.

Favorite "finesse swimbaits"
3.5 inch Keitech Swing Impact rigged with the hook through the nose of the bait. It allows more of the bait to move and gives it better action coming through the water. Add a bullet weight ahead of the hook and you can drop it into holes in grass.

Fishing jigs in rivers
I've used jigs on the Susquehanna river and the main thing you have to remember is the drag on the line by the current. If its moving too fast it looks unnatural. Throw your jig upriver and across slightly so you get less drag on it. Also you can let the current do more work and you don't have to impart as much action to the jig.

Do You Support Your Local Bait and Tackle Shop?
My favorite local shop Wacky Worm is holding their spring sale right now. 10% off lures, so if you are in the NY, NJ, PA border area stop in and check out the 70 foot long wall of plastic lures for some great deals. They also make their own version of popular lures like senkos and soft plastic jerkbaits. Sale ends March 6th.

Chomper's Super sinker...what a great bait that never took off...
Just took awhile to catch on.

Single Colorado Blade Spinnerbait
The fact that you can move them slowly and the blade still turns and the amount of vibration is key when visibility is low and fish are not as active. I match it with a fire-tiger or chart. skirt and a large plastic trailer for added visibility.

New Bass Angler
I started bass fishing with the basics, spinner bait, rubber worm, crank bait, and a stick bait. They were the cheapest I could find. I was more concerned with learning how to use them. Start simple and enjoy learning a new style of fishing.

2016 Bassmaster Classic Grand Lake
If he learns how to finesse fish I think he can be. His biggest downfall was while other guys were catching them on drop shots and shakey heads he was power fishing. I still think he is one of the best pros out there. I always root for him.

Flukemaster no longer number 1 on YouTube
I like the SKARFishing channel. He focuses on Susquehanna river fishing but also fishes local lakes.

Overcomplicating things
Oh am I ever "that guy" and if I could afford to be, I would be more of "that guy" then anybody else. I've got more tackle than I can shake a stick at. If I go to walmart for something I always stop by the fishing tackle aisle. I'm on a first name basis with most of the workers at the Cabela's store 40 miles away. I don't have a boat but would buy one of those 21ft bass boats if I had the cash. For now I settle for a canoe and a kayak. I fall for the latest and greatest baits every time. I just can't help myself. But hey, to me that's part of the fun. Besides, I don't drink or do drugs so I gotta have a vice. At least it is legal.

Dropshot starter baits
I like Strike King Dream Shots. The tail on them narrows and then widens out giving them great action on the hook. Also Berkeley Drop Shot Minnow and Jackells Cross Tail but they are expensive.

tying hair jigs
My collection of hair jigs I made myself. Winter is getting boring and this keeps me busy and my mind off the snow.

practicing pitching/skipping?
Sounds like you've been spying on me. Especially the part about pretending to know what the fish might like.

Superstition & Rituals
I leave the clear plastic manufacturers put on the cork handles of rods until it falls off. I never remove it until it starts to deteriorate. I know its strange. How it came about was I bought a new rod and didn't take off the plastic. I had the best day on the water than I had ever had. Since then its my superstition.

Who would you fish with for a day?
+1 for the Dalai.

Craw Trailer with the most action
I use Rage Craws but cut a small V in the side of the craws to get alittle more action. I do this with all my trailers no matter what brand. I also thread (using a needle) old rubber strands from a spinnerbait skirt through the body of the lure to give it tenticles or feelers. Give it a try.
