  1. I read some great advice, either here or on one of the FB kayak pages, "Demo as much as you can, and buy your second yak, first." Which means, you might be better off going with the more expensive, but better suited yak first rather than buying the bargain and upgrading in a year. Not having fished from a yak though makes it tough to know what you really want. Myself as an example, the only thing I really know that my yak must have, is stability, I must be able to fish standing, and not occasionally, but most of the time. That leaves a lot of yaks to look at.
  2. I would wait, word is they're coming out with versions with electronics compatability.
  3. Really depends on what type of fishing you do. I'm fishing mostly the bluffs, so it's the Marina or Haycock. Things are changing though, so I will be putting in at 3 mile and Haycock more often.
  4. Nice fish. Like Blue says, make your own with seven strand wire, and crimps. Google Butch Brown rig for Hudds, adapt it to your line thru. Perfect set up because it won't affect action.
  5. Gotta be a proven fish catcher, before I shell out the "big bucks".
  6. Maybe a breakthrough? Détente between fisherman and PWC'ers!
  7. We here in PA are limited to 3 baits, but I fish 5 arm, and even got a couple 7 arm rigs, I just rig the top baits w/o hooks.
  8. I fish Hudd shads and grass minnows and never had a problem with the durability, get some Mend-It. Under $10, under an ounce...you can go with the Hudds, or what some others suggested. I heard Northland Live Forage baits aren't bad, look pretty similar to the Storms. Also R2S makes some decent baits too. Good Luck.
  9. Like Seebee said, and there is a general warning that just the torque from a TM can flip you, (heard some horror stories). But if your yak is designed for it, then it's probably ok.
  10. I rigged their Musky Frog(Bogs) essentially as a line-thru so even when a toothy critter hits it, they don't get to gnaw on it. The 3:16 are essentially the same way, and slide up the line, the nose gets beat up a little, but nothing Mend-It can't fix. I have 3:16 frogs that have well over 20 fish on them. Like I said, they draw strikes from all size fish and the hook up ratio is way better than hollow body frogs.
  11. Rumor has it that Kurita, has seen the new record, and let's face it, you need to see those 20 pounders caught before you see the record broken. So I say Japan, maybe Cali, and Texas is the future.
  12. I actually checked into this when a 30/20 came up on CL, and no, it's not ok to have on The Nock. It's a 30 hp motor not 20. I tried arguing with the rangers, but they didn't care. It's not the "output" they were concerned with.
  13. Has anyone given you warnings about side mounting your TM on a yak?
  14. Want to see some really impressive rigs, go to FB motorized kayak group. Those guys know how to do it!
  15. FYI Bogs sells 12/0 and 15/0 EWG hooks that you could use, in addition to their recommendation to use a musky rig. I had some success rigging it with a 12/0 frog hook, but it ceased to float. My go to frog now is the 3:16 No Bull Frog at 8", and it draws strikes from all size bass.
  16. I did the same thing on my pontoon. I have to say, it's a vast improvement. I worry about the skeg when in shallow water though on a canoe(?). The instructions I found about mounting a skeg though(on a pontoon) was from the Sea Eagle site, and they said to mount it as far forward as possible, just below the waterline. IMHO, just try the rudder first. I was surprised how well it worked.
  17. 14' long 41" wide? That's a barge!
  18. I said "early evening 6pm -10pm" only because it covers the times I fish in the evening. My opinion of the best time to fish is an hour before sunrise, around 5:30 to about 9 am, but that was not a selection.
  19. My brother-in-law lives in NC, and has a set up like the guy in Felix77 video. Likes it a lot. He fishes the big lakes they have outside Charlotte.
  20. I use Thule, Yakima, and an aftermarket no name off of eBay, they all work well. If you want a brand name, but don't want to shell out the dough, Craigslist is a good place to find racks at a discount.
  21. d**n sharp scissors...
  22. Your lookin at a little over 2oz. for a 68. So you're definitely pushing it with your MH.
