  1. when the color wears off i change the hook.i always have a sharp hook that way.i use black and red.i see no difference in catch rates.i know it doesn't scare the fish.i choose based on my mood for the day.
  2. i do a few wraps.if you want to use less braid fill the spool with tape.you only need to do thid the first time.the next refill in 5 years you just tie a uni knot.
  3. tie it to the spool and feed electrical tape over the line and spool it on a few turns.it will never slip.
  4. get a spool of 50 lb 300 yards.it should fill 3 baitcasters.it's 12 lb diameter which is perfect.
  5. because they were overcharging us to begin with!!!
  6. why would youthrow cranks on a spinning rod?the retrieve rate is to high.
  7. fishing with jim fanning -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- fished with fanninja last night with an interruption from a thunderstorm.we thought the night was going to get rained out but it stopped from 6:15 to 9 pm before lightning was visible again so we did get a night of fishing in.as usual once the front came through the fishing got slow.we boated 5 fish for the night.all my fish were caught on 3 different lures. the first was a wacky rig senko.the second hammered a spinnerbait so we thought spinnerbaits would be the ticket but that turned out to be false.the third weighed 5 lbs even and crushed my bandit crankbait after seriously cranking a rocky area.i think both of jim's fish were caught on soft jerkbaits. jin now owes me a trip on kensico which i will definately take him up on.i've never fished kensico with somebody who knows it well enough to put me on fish.i hardly ever get to catch smallies so that should be fun.
  8. hate the foam.looks like an ugly stick!!! ;D
  9. i've done a few of those!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
  10. no foregrip/split grips are a marketing thing to sell rods.the blank amplifies the strike and you feel it through the handle.hold your line and hold myour rod with a 1/2 oz jig on the floor pop the line tight.you will feel the vibration amplified in the rod handle far more than you feel it in the line.
  11. They do offer there blanks to the custom rod builders. The whole split grip design isn't about looking cool it is for better senceitvity. If your rod feels to tip heavy you just need to balance your rod by putting some weight in the back of the blank. I guarantee you the same rod with split grip and non split grip in your hands you cant tell the difference in sensitivity don't fool your self buddy :-X : Well I own both split grip and full grip rods and there is a difference its not a huge difference. So don't fool yourself buddy. So do I and rod builders have clamied it makes no difference they use split grip to save on cork cost, and because customers fell it's m0ore comfortable. In fact a full grip balances the rod better which a balanced rod will feel more sensitive Bud, i agree with that last comment %100!!!
  12. more on baitcasters because the spool is thinner.some spinning reels do it but most do not.
  13. the brake is centrifugal not magnetic.
  14. 6-6 mh spin for worms and soft plastics. 6-6 mh baitcast with a soft tip for cranks and spinnerbaits and topwaters. 7-6 flipping stick
  15. i've hand my hand go stupid and have thrown 2 nice combos into the lake and never got them back.things happen!!!
  16. i like full grips.i think these new designs are just a fad.not having cork behind the reel makes it slightly more tip heavy which is a negative in my book.
  17. no,braided line takes forever to deteiorate.
  18. first of all on a baitcaster you need to go with thicker line to help prevent digging in.the thinnest i have gotten away with is 6/20.most of the time i use 12/50.junk the spiderwire and get some powerpro or sufix.
  19. pp red works fine shallow or deep.
  20. all my pfluegers max at 9 lbs measured on a digital scale.
  21. i fish ny city water supply reservirs for the most part.they are from 600 to 1600 acres for the most part.i still love fishing small ponds but that's only when my time is limited.
  22. cutting the barb off is the best thing to do and then back it out.don't yank it's eyeball out.the more damage you do the greater the chance of infection.there are plenty of huge 1 eyed bass.
  23. also, dark colored wacky rigged senkos work well at night sometimes.
  24. use braid at least 50 lb test.
