just got mine in.what a piece of beautifull machinery.i don't care what anyone says this reel is on par with the best of them.the titanium depostion finish is beautifull.it has centrifugal and magnetic brakes .it casts a mile and pitches a 3/8 jig like you wouldn't believe.i got the narrow spool 7 to 1 version and put it on my flipping stick with fireline 80 lb braid.with 20 pounds of drag pressure it should haul out the big ones with ease.the patriarch is built on the same frame as the revo (both owned by pure fishing) and from what a lot of reel guys are saying many of the parts interchange.the drag design is definately revo.for $199 i don't think you can beat this reel.

i'm back to using braid for everything.the sensitivity cannot be beat.i hardly ever break off in rocks but then again i use 65 and 80 lb braid which is 14 and 15 lb diameter in mono.i've tried them all and the best is the new fireline braid followed by suffix.powrpro used to be the best but they are not any longer.they need to come out with a smoother braid.their design is outdated.

it's about time somebody besides me recognizes how good they are!!!

good luck with the new reels.don't listen to the naysayers in the crowd.a lot of fishermen don't realize some of us are on a budget and that there are some very fine lower priced products out there.

some of my friends have them and love them.

if it's a spinning reel i wouldn't go higher than 10 due to line twist issues unless you use braid.baitcasters you can go 25 to 30 lb mono or up to 100 pound braid.you have to realize when using braid that strong that something will give if you pull to hard and it won't be the braid.it will be either the rod or reel.guys use braid that strong for abrasion resistance and so it doesn't dig into the spool when fighting big fish.

or send it to bass pro shops reel repair and let them fix it.

bass pro shops johnny morris signature or elite series rods.

i'd get the pflueger.

my elite with recoils makes less noise with braid than my signature series with braid and sic guides.

and i've never seen a spool that holds as much line as the manufacturer claims it holds.they all tend to be way over the real amount they hold.

in that range i would pick a pflueger president2.

the wide spool version when spooled with heavier line would only hold around 100 yds.it also recovers 2 more inches per handle turn.this makes it a very good choice for frogging etc. with heavy braid.

Value is about far more than price. AND IT'S ABOUT A LOT MORE THAN SHE MAN O'S ;D that woud be shimbindo!!!a few years back shimbindo spinning reels were binding up all over and they did nothing about it.it caused many loyal shimbindo fans to go to diawa.

i let you know when mine comes and i use it.all my other pflueger reels have no problem with lures that weight.

Beyond the 6'6" medium power range is where I start to have the most problems with Bass Pro rods. If you move into the 7' Medium Heavy and above classes of rods, their weight significantly increases while their sensitivity drastically decreases. In this class of rods, there are significantly better choices out there, but they will almost always cost a little more coin. then u haven't fished a johnny morris rod yet.

any quality telescopic rod is extremely sensitive.on a good rod u wouldn't be able to tell the differencne.
