  1. I was driving along the canal this morning from around Chain Bridge into DC. The Canal looked full to me. I pulled over and looked at it for a minute and it had a nice green color too. Was the canal low in that area last year or only as it made it’s way west?
  2. Does anyone have experience with the Plano Guide Series Blade Bag?
  3. Also, if you have the means—you should check out some of Western PA’s rivers. Some good smallmouth fishing.
  4. Nice! I have the same rod in my cart, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Edited to add: the discount isn’t working for me anymore.
  5. I would get a M if I were getting a spinning rod and a MH if getting a casting rod.
  6. Oh wow you are right! It does show up in the cart. I was just going by the product page. It said: “This item is excluded from all discounts and promotions.” Thanks
  7. St. Croix rods are excluded from the sale ?
  8. I don’t think that I have ever caught a fish on a lipless crankbait–which is weird bc crankbaits and topwaters are my confidence baits. I also have never tried a ned rig. Those techniques are on my list this year. I think the ned rig may work well for me. I wade fish a lot of shallow water.
  9. I am curious to try these. Are they easy to get on and off when on the water? I am sick of all of my hooks getting tangled.
  10. I’ve had pretty good success with a lot of the house brand lures. (BPS, Academy, Cabela’s)
  11. Thanks for checking, I am on mobile.
  12. I can view my wishlist and all of the items are still there. I still can’t add to my wishlist—unless I am doing something wrong.
  13. Awesome. Will do!
  14. I love fishing texas rigged tubes just how you describe. Several years ago I purchased a bunch of 3” O-bait tubes and am down to my last pack. I don’t think they make them anymore, but if you find them I had pretty good luck with them.
  15. Thanks for the information. I was initially thinking that the potomac north of DC would be easy to access on foot, but I will need to do more research. I generally prefer bank fishing rivers. The tournament looks fun. I might have to consider it. Although I have never done anything like it other than kayak fishing tournaments.
  16. Hi guys. I am not 100% sure that this is the correct spot to post this. Anyways, I recently moved to DC. My first year here I bought a DC license and fished a couple spots in the District for bass. I went out 3 short trips and caught 1 smallmouth and found a couple promising spots. My goal this year is to fish a lot more now that I am finally a little settled in to the area. I grew up river smallmouth fishing so I will probably stick to the Potomac, but I am open to other areas as well. I am debating which fishing license(s) to buy this year. I tried doing some research and it looks like there is reciprocity on the Potomac between VA and MD license. So I am thinking of buying a DC license and one from the other states. Any advice? I think that I will only be bank fishing. Unfortunately I didn’t bring my kayak with me as I don’t have a place to store it. I couldn’t find any place to store it at a reasonable cost close to the city. Maybe I will see some of you guys on the water!
  17. Thanks guys. I am more concerned with the line being able to set the hooks properly and using a heavy topwater thats still within the rods weight rating than the bass breaking the line.
  18. Hi I recently bought a 6'6" mf avid spinning rod. I paired it with a shimano stradic ci4+ and 6lb yozuri hubrid. I bought this rod to be a multipurpose smallmouth river rod. I have a few questions though. I like to fish finesse jigs that I make. They use a 2/0 size 32786 mustad hook and i usually use a paddle tail trailer. Is 6lb yozuri enough line to drive that hook home? I also was hoping to use this rod for lucky craft sammys and gunfish that are about 3/5 oz. do you think this rod is ok for these applications? Im concerned that the hooks that I am using are too big for the 6lb test yozuri. If not what applications would this rod work better for? Tubes and grubs? thanks
  19. I just ordered a bunch of h2o express baits from academy. I never seen them in person bc I do not live by one. I love the look of their finishes online though. I got 8 hard baits for $32.00!!
  20. This rod is beastly, but has a nice finish and I love the color. I was expecting it to not fish very well after a lot of the negative things that I read. I liked it more than I expected though. It is kind of heavy and kind of tip heavy. Even when paired up with the tatula. It is stiff but I could cast heavy baits really accurately, and could even throw a hollow body frog further than I expected. I am satified with the rod at $89. The reel is also very cool looking. It is not as low profile or as light as a lot of reels, but fit my hands well. I was really surprised with how smooth the reel was. It may be the most smooth reel that I own. I also like the knobs a lot more than my Lexa. I ended up spooling 50lb power pro with no backing. I hope you are glad that I reviewed two products that nobody else online has really reviewed.
  21. I have a newbie question... I plan on spooling 50 lb braid on this reel. If I use backing does it matter what diameter the mono is that I use? I don't have any heavy mono laying around. I never backed a reel before but it makes sense with how much money some brands of braid cost.
  22. That's good to know! I am excited to give it a try. I have heard good things and couldn't pass a new one up for $90.
  23. You can get the lews for around $82 on ebay.
  24. Crap. I ordered this rod at the sale price on the advice of a friend. Oh well Maybe it will be ok as an intro swimbait rod. For $89 with a hat and free shipping it isnt that big of a deal. I also ordered a tatula reel to pair with it.
  25. I read a few people say that this is a terrible frogging rod, but I was wondering if it would make a good swimbait rod for baits 2 ounces and under?
