Cotton Cordell Bait Question/Identification
The one with the raised gill plate is not super spot. I think it is a generic lipless that is now sold by Cotton Cordell. In fact, I think at one time Cabela's sold it (scan from a 2005 catalog, below)

Diff in line weight to change lure action or running depth
@mheichelbech, You need to over-analyze even more. In addition to line diameter, you also need to consider that the density of water changes with temperature and pressure, and that will also affect lure action and sound. Then there's the specific gravity of the water you are fishing (since no lake is "pure" water) that you need to consider . . . then you need to determine how uniform each of your lures are . . . then . . . But seriously, quite some time ago, I bought a book, Precision Trolling, which had lure dive charts, and I think they had multiple curves based on various line diameters. (I can't find the book, so I am going by memory.) Anyway, I just googled and apparently you have to buy an app for your phone for this data. Google "Precision Trolling Data". Is that the type of data you want?

- Winter Topic: Have You Fished In A Lake That Contains A Monster/Creature?
@NYWayfarer, Wikipedia also lists the following in New York as having Lake Monsters: Black River, Hudson River, Onondaga Lake, Finger Lakes, and Schroon Lake. Ever fish at any of those?- No hook in the mouth?
Probably depends on the state's regulations. In California "Snagging is prohibited. Snagging is defined as impaling or attempting to impale a fish in any part of its body other than inside the mouth by use of a hook, hooks, gaff, or other mechanical implement." I assume tournaments have to abide by state regulations?- The Natural Progression of a Basshead ~ One Man’s Point of View
When I was a kid I was at Stage 2. Now with work and other personal responsibilities, I'm back at Stage 1.- Winter Topic: Have You Fished In A Lake That Contains A Monster/Creature?
Here's something I found on the internet: Iowa's American Indian Underwater Dragon Historically, Iowa was inhabited by various Algonquian Indian tribes, such as the Kickapoo, the Iowa River "Mahouea", Mascouten, Sauk and the Meskwaki (Fox). The Meskwaki (Fox) spoke of an aquatic dragon, commonly known as the Underwater Panther (Naamipeshiwa or Peshipeshiwa). Native-languages.org describes this dragon as "...A powerful mythological creature something like a cross between a cougar and a dragon. It is a dangerous monster who lives in deep water and causes men and women to drown." @scaleface Got any photos of this thing: It must be winter. LOL.- Winter Topic: Have You Fished In A Lake That Contains A Monster/Creature?
Mods: I wasn’t sure where to post this - please move to the appropriate forum. Have any of you fished in a body of water purported to contain a monster or creature? I have fished in two lakes that supposedly contain some sort of monster/creature. Lake Hodges and Lake Tahoe. I didn’t even know there is supposed to be a monster in either of them. Lake Hodges allegedly has a Loch Ness Monster-like creature, and Lake Tahoe apparently has a serpent-like creature. Wikipedia has a list of lakes that contain monsters if you are curious.- CA backyard pond stocking
@Fishe, California has strict rules governing plants and animals. Please contact the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. You need an approved permit for any private stocking. Please don't assume that someone on a forum knows what is legal in your state.- What Species Is This?
Sorry, I wasn't trying to criticize, not trying to discourage anybody from replying.- What Species Is This?
@Happybeerbuzz Do not kill on sight. There is nothing written on the California Department of Fish and Wildlife website regarding this. The regulations only mention three fish that should be killed immediately: Northern Pike, White Bass, Grass Carp (in certain areas). See sections 5.51 (Northern Pike), 5.9 (White Bass), and 5.37 (Grass Carp) for details. Colorado pikeminnow is a protected species. (but probably no longer present in California, unless one ventures down the Colorado River) @TheBasslayer Northern pikeminnow is not in the area of California he is fishing.- What Species Is This?
I agree with @Finessegenics, probably a sacramento pikeminnow. It is native to California.- Show Off Your Work!
