  1. I always bring my paddle. I have been blown into the bank more times than I can count and would be in trouble if I didn't have my paddle to push me free.
  2. I have a Hobie PA14 and it has redefined how I fish and what I think of fishing. I can't explain it but catching fish in a kayak seems more rewarding than being in a boat. Probably the same thing could be said about fly fishing as compared to bass fishing from the bank. It's just different. Bottom line, I enjoy it more.
  3. Sort of still new to BFS but I tried some 4lb and 6lb Suffix Elite and didn't care for it. I like it ok on spinning gear but on a BFS baitcaster, it just didn't do it for me. I pulled it and went with 7lb Sunline Invisible FC. It has worked great but wish I would have used 5lb instead. Just in case, I have used it for topwater, bottom contact and small jerkbaits. All worked great with this line.
  4. I use the ones like this from Kastking and fill them with whatever scent I want when I leave a soft plastic on my rod and I switch from one bait to the next while fishing. It most cases this is totally unnecessary but in my mind it keeps the bait smelly and it won't dry out.
  5. Weren't these supposed to come out earlier this year? Looking forward to trying them.
  6. I would definitely return it and I would contact Daiwa just in case.
  7. What rod is that? I don't think that would be acceptable.
  8. First, I wouldn't drive around with my rods in the back of my truck. Any line, including FC and mono will get wrapped, especially on spinning gear. I would invest in a rod sock. For line, 6lb or 8lb Invizx should work fine but left in a truck, it might get more brittle and coil. Some KVD line conditioner will help. I would not use Big Game on bass spinning gear. Good line but the diameter is too big and it will develop some memory.
  9. Most of the time when a rod breaks, it's operator error but boat flipping a 7lb fish, not sure how it wouldn't break. I do the best I can to net the big ones. I have lost fish right at the boat and after a few it gets expensive when you're fishing in a tournament.
  10. I have seen these branded by several retailers. I have a pair from Gander Mountain.
  11. It depends on the lure and the stock hooks. Does he have to.... probably not but most stock hooks are not that great and at some point he will need to change them anyway. Maybe it's a good time to learn. It will definitely improve his hook ups. If you change them, the Owner Stinger ST-38s are an excellent upgrade.
  12. I have reels from Shimano, Daiwa, Abu Garcia, Lew's (1), and Quantum. I work on my own reels and a handful for few guys I know. Based on the 12+ years of working on them, I have my personal preferences. Each manufacture has had some QC issues or they have produced an all around bad reel. They have also produced some fun and functional reels to fish. I think when you take apart a reel and put in back together it gives you a different perspective on what each brand brand is capable of.
  13. If this is the one I heard about last year, you can order the Doyo version (exact same reel) for $225 - $250 from Korea. It looks like a new Zillion and an Antares 70A offspring. It actually pretty cool looking.
  14. The .08 Verivas PE Super Trout Advance I have been using on my Daiwa Silver Wolf is equivalent to 3lb mono or 2lb FC. It takes some getting use to though . I have 6lb FC on the Aldebaran BFS. It is much easier to deal with. I have been using a Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse and it's ok but I am looking to get a trout rod or a Megabass Destroyer P5 Cliffhanger, PopX or even the Siglett. I am still thinking and waiting (wife's birthday is this week).
  15. For me, it depends on the reel and the rod. I know the rod ratings are just guide lines but all things considered..... light line + small reel = light rod. So for the average baitcaster (like a Curado), I would go with 10lb. Light reel (not BFS, Diawa CT reels) maybe 6 or 8lb. BFS reel, 2 or 4lb.
  16. Bummer. Plat, maybe, but it would be JDM part number.

No swivel for me. I tie it straight to the line. I use a slow retrieve. Never had an issue with line twists.
  18. Motor oil in the Berkley Power Worm still catches fish for me but in the stained water I fish, there are better colors.
  19. I haven't tried these but most knock offs or other branded baits like it, haven't done well for me. The original from GYCB has always been my best producer. I have tried several cheaper versions looking for a more cost effective alternative but no luck. The closest I have come is the Berkley General. I do have some new Senko style baits I am going to post a review on from a small bait company after I do some more testing but they are about the best quality softplastic I have seen... that doesn't necessarily mean that they catch more fish though. I base my color selection on time of day and water cleararity.
  20. To me there are three colors of senkos..... light, dark, and green pumpkin black flake. ? Knowing when and where to use them is the hard part.
  21. Roboworm for me as well. Morning Dawn and Aaron's Magic are my favorite colors.
  22. Have you called Daiwa? (562)375-6800
  23. I saw that the first time I purchased them. There is video somewhere that shows the size differences. The 5.8 is huge. Getting only 3 makes them pricey. I did catch 5 fish on a 3.8 last weekend. Fished it for about 3 hours and it's still usable. If the smell goes down, I just rub it around in the bag. The 3.8 has been my go to size though. Dark Matter has been my favorite color so far but I have caught fish on all the colors I have tried.
  24. Sieberts and omfishingsinkers but they look like might be out of business.
