Fall Fishing and what Bass see question
1. Isnt Fall supose to be the absolute best Bass Hawg catching season? I know its either Spring or Fall.... 2. I heard or read somewhere that all Bass see things in a pixel type form which are tiny squares if you dont know what pixel art looks like. My question is, is this valid? Also do Bass see the full color spectrum as we do or do they only see certain colors while others dont exist to them? -Thanks.

Being a good loser makes you a real winner
That goes without saying.. losing is apart of any game and no one wins all the time but me (jk)

Do you wear eye protection while you fish ???
I wear glasses as it is. The lenses are scrach resistant and shatter proof so I have no worries about my eyes while fishing.

ESPN names most saught after fish.
Well I cant say really give an opinion on them because I have never saw or fished for one for obvious reasons but if you came to Michigan I bet some of our Pike could fight just as much as a red fish. Muskie im guessing would out do them (?) and if they could fight more then those two I highly doubt they can out fight a Steelhead. Ive seen Steelheads (even a muskie once) split many rods like a pencil. Heres some pics I gathered off the web really quick that are from Michigan for those who arent familiar with the species. Michigan Pike Michigan Muskie Michigan Steelhead Dont take this the wrong way its just ive never heard of stories from the out-of-towners about those fish I always hear them coming to catch (aside from bass) one of the three above or walleye. They talk about Snook and stuff which we dont have etc thats all I heard. Wish I could dig into one of those (redfish) to really know.

Bass being aside for now, I understand that completely. Just like Michigan has our hardcore fighting Pike/Muskie/Steelheads that most states dont have. But hey we in Michigan dont have some of the fish you guys got down south or elsewhere to enjoy. Every state in America that I can think of off the top of my head has a great sub-species to catch aside from our beloved bass. Id love to take a few state fishing trip just to catch fish I can never catch in my area. As a matter of fact I wrote down and kept a name and number to a guy RW highly recommended to me for when I do.

I think your a little off imo. Largemouth Bass are more saught after because they grow huge compared to their hostile cousins, the Smallmouth Bass. When people catch fish they always want that big fish (its like some oldschool muscle car guys and their bigger motors that they crave). Face it, size matters and when it comes to Bass the Largemouth is the King of size (for Bass). I too love catching both Large and Smallmouth but for newer anglers ripping in a 6lb Largemouth Bass compared to a 3lb Smallmouth will get them hooked more just because of the fact they are going to look at that hawg and be awed. The part I disagree with is when you said they are everywhere. They're not everywhere if you look at it from a Global stand point. NA dominates most of the Bass population. You have to think to ESPN covers just the NA sports fishing scene. Im 100% positive other countries would have a completely different #1-10. We are blessed to have such a wonderful species of fish to catch that not many can. The American Flag to America is like the Largemouth Bass to American Fishing. I have many, many friends who are anglers half of them dont even fish for Bass some fish only for the fight of a Pike/Muskie or the good taste of Perch/Walleye. I always bs with them and have asked every single one of them at one time or another that if they were fishing for Bass what would they rather catch they all told me Largemouth when I asked why I got an appearance related answer every time. Now everyone on this forum pretty much are hardcore Bass anglers so we appreciate the both for different reasons. As a rule of thumb smallies will fight harder then a Largemouth but, I have caught Largemouth that out faught smallies of the same size. Even though were all human we are all different and even though Bass are Bass they are all different as well. The biggest Bass fight I ever had and will never forget was when I was 16 and it was on a Largemouth. It was at Lake Erie (a known lunker/hawg spot for Michigan Bass anglers) I was with my father and grandfather, my father hooked into this thing and gave me the rod (so I dont consider it a catch for me) and this thing wouldnt let up at all. It took me around 20 minutes to get her in from about 14 feet away. It was a little over 8lbs, it wasnt as long as some of the 6lber's ive caught but this thing was fat as hell and its mouth was huge. I'll never forget that day and ever since then ive been hooked on Bass. So for me it was the Largemouth that got me hooked as im sure it has for so many others. I hope some people dont misinterprate this whole post as I have a hard time getting people to understand what I truely mean but anyway, yeah.

Has anybody ever done this?
Go buy a Rapala DT-? Sure Set (you want every advantage you can get in a crankbait for tourny time) series crankbait (the number will represent the desired depth if you dont know) then go buy some black spray paint. Take off the hooks then tape up the lip and eyes with tape. If youd like it to be more glossy get a can of clear coat. Apply the paint then let dry in a dust free enviroment unless you want dust flakes in your paint job (not recommended). Apply a few layers of clear coat, you do that by spraying the clear coat on letting it dry and repeating the process again until you get that desired finish. I never have done this but I know it will work. For best results you could take a piece of sand paper and sand off the color as well. Also solid black is superb on any bait but you have way too much black stuff. The key to success is variety (under your circumstances). If you want solid colors though (because all solid colors will stick out more) you could try an off-white "creme" color. That would look good to and is a proven old school color. Good luck to you and your tourny if I havent replyed too late.

ESPN names most saught after fish.
True but the same could be said for Pike, Muskie, and Steelhead (fish im familiar with here in Michigan) Those things could tear your arm off.

ESPN names most saught after fish.
ESPN just recently (sorta, couple days ago or so) named the #1 saught after game fish the Largemouth Bass.. suprisingly in this list the Smallmouth came in 3rd while the RedFish (im almost positive) stole (imo) 2nd. Lb for lb Smallmouth is for the fighters but if you want some big big bass go look for some Largemouth. I love both equally to be honest if its a Bass im a happy man. Just thought id post sure some of you others saw it. I missed 4 and 5 but I sure hope the Pike, Muskie, and/or Steelhead were somewhere on this list (assuming it was top 10). Offtopic: I love muskie and all but I swear if it werent for Muskie youd hear a lot more Pike stories there is some monsterous thunder strikeing Pike here in Michigan.

New World Record Bass (25.1 lbs)
You know this just goes to show how big of a deal this record really is and its no wonder ESPN just recently named the #1 saught after game fish the Largemouth Bass.. suprisingly in this list the Smallmouth came in 3rd while the RedFish stole 2nd. Lb for lb Smallmouth is for the fighters but if you want some big big bass go look for some Largemouth. I love both equally to be honest. If I caught that fish and weighed it on a properly tuned scale I would not care if it went in the book or not because I would know inside I am the title holder.

how should you fish a spook?
On topic: I just fish them like a Heddon Tiny Torpedo if that helps. On a side note: I dont know if its just me or what but I have found my limited use of Spooks to be absolutely lousy for LMBass compared to SMBass.

How To fish a texas rig - great article....
Thats what I usually do. Ill sweep with the rod at 3 or 9 o'clock if that dont work ill jerk in some sort of interval at the same position. Ive done this always and my woman outfishes me with plastics. Here's what I learned today that my woman does everytime by her own instinct I tried it and caught more suprisingly. Hold the rod at a 10-11 or 2-3 o'clock postition while giving jerks in intervals and you sort of create a vertical hop but not completely I caught a lot today doing that lol. Give it a try.. The thing with me and this thread that I could never do is where you cast and just let it sit id last about a good.. 3 minutes tops.

How To fish a texas rig - great article....
I just did this on my own before reading this and caught a nice size Perch. I use a lot of unconvential techniques that have caught me fish some of them are pretty wacky that I did while clowning around and catching a fish.

fishing TINY ponds
Catfish eat bass? I never knew that.. That would have to be a big catfish because Bass arent some little girly fish if you know what I mean. I mean there no pike, muskie, or steel head.. but I find it vary hard to believe a cat fish could eat a bass thats even half its weight. Theres one of three ponds in my apartment that has a lot of catfish in it and lmbass, Ive caught baby bass that have grown up a few years and been caught again. There is tons of baby largemouth bass in this pond I mean (or if you ever) go to lakes or ponds that arent frequented often or where lots of kids etc throw in bread to the water to see a swarm of bluegills come eat it up. Thats how many baby lmbass are in this one pond by me yet ive only caught one lmbass out of it and it was 6 1/2 lbs. Catfish and Bass are the primary species in this pond im talking about. I could see maybe the occasional meal but nothing that would destroy a avg level bass population. Thats just crazy.. who knows though maybe someones saw a pond or w.e get the bass population leveled by catfish i just find it hard to believe.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go to the place that usually goes against all rules if the places that you go to by the "rules" are not working. Some of the most overlooked spots on a body of water can be the absolute best.

if you caught the world record bass?
The Michigan smallmouth record will be hard to beat probably as theres only 3 main smallie bodys of water that hold the nice sized ones and one of the three hold lunkers so the smallie record is possible but I know one of these years our Largemouth record will be shatterd. I have seen some monster Largemouth coming out of here. I dedicate a good two hours to finding this one before I go off to smallie land. Id get a replica or mold if at all possible then release it if not I think this is the one time I would keep a Bass.

Largemouth or Smallmouth?
Smallmouth lb for lb fight more out of the two. Largemouth are known to hang closer to shore in shallower water when compared to smallmouth. This doesnt mean Largemouth dont fight at all because ive caught 5-6 lb largemouth that were just going balistic on me. Largemouth do fight and fight hard. Most largemouth wont give you that fight you crave as the smallmouth will but you will occasionally catch that one Largemouth that will wow you. Get one thats ticked off and 5+ lbs and youll see what I mean. Up in here in Michigan though nothing can top the fights (not even bass not even close) you will get off Pike, Muskie, and Steelhead come to Michigan and catch some of them. Tell us about your soar arm or how you got caught off guard while standing on the edge of your boat ;D

Pond Rejuvenation Update #1
Well there are no laws on these bodies of water in the apartments im in. They are man made 20 year old ponds. Hardly anyone fishes here and the DNR dont even list or bother with honey holes like this. In a way its good they dont because then itd be listed and youd see more people but then in away its not because you have to find all the other honey holes in your state on your own. These small bodies of water are notorious for lunkers because they roam and grow freely as well as go undetected by their biggest predator, us humans. I always catch and release though.. Just because most dont it seems, it isnt an excuse for everyone to do it. Bass isnt the worst tasteing fish but its no where near that of say Perch, Trout, or Walleye. So people who catch and keep Bass kinda get on my nerves when they can go catch some of the same great tasting species I mentioned above in the very same body of water. Oh well though, to each their own. Wish me luck on my honey hole project. BTW, this really is an effortlessly thing. I mean I drive to two other ponds that are a half mile away from me in each direction. I only drive because I carry a tank of water otherwise id walk. I wouldnt want to run half a mile with every fish I catch to throw it in. LOL, there is one guy here who fishes these other honey holes to. He just recently caught a 19 inch Largemouth and ran it back here. I am also making sure I am not taking too many from either pond because I do not want to damage them in anyway. From expierence though I know these places are stacked with Largemouth. This last 4lb I caught faught more then some of the 6 to 6 and a 1/2 lb Bass ive caught here. What a rush..
