  1. I'm a teacher and never sold that line of bs. Sadly, most of my coworkers disagree with me.
  2. I really liked my Veritas until it was stepped on, and I paid more than 49.99 for it. I've also been very pleased with my Lews rods, (Carbon Fire, not the Mach crush). It all depends on how much the money matters to you. They're probably all decent rods.
  3. I've had the same issue with the standard Ned head mold too.
  4. I use Weber kettles with a slow and sear, the snake method, and a vortex. I have three kettles, mainly so that I can start a long smoke early Saturday morning and still be able to do burgers for lunch on a second grill. The third is at my folks' house for Buckeye games I also have a stainless grill grate, a major upgrade from the original.
  5. I have a couple, I really like being able to place the reel in the best spot to balance the rod.
  6. Mostly Power Pro, but if I see expensive stuff on sale I'll try it. I have some Sufix on my frog rod.
  7. I'm the opposite, I reel my braid from one spool to another to turn it "inside out" and get another 2-3 years out of it. But that's the beautiful thing, neither of us is wrong.
  8. I've experienced tournament entitlement, or I've been on the receiving end of it. A 150 dollar entry fee is no reason to be inconsiderate. I have a lot of money wrapped up in my boat and truck too.
  9. I'll pile on here too about YZH- I swear I must have gotten a bad spool. It's one of those products that most posters like, but not me.
  10. I've got an old Falcon and a couple original Speed Sticks, all 5'6". They all have their place-as does my 7'10" fiberglass cranking rod. I do like the short ones best for working topwater baits, it's just easier for me.
  11. The parallels between this and a thread about line are pretty comical. Is Folgers the Big Game of coffee?
  12. I've used them for ages, in the 80s my father drilled holes in them and epoxied tiny split shot and bb's to make them suspend. They are great baits, especially as a backup when ypu are throwing topwater and they won't commit to an aggressive lure.
  13. Ring of Fire is pretty good too!
  14. Dean's Beans out of Orange Massachusetts. Their "Roadhouse" has very low acidity which is easy on my 4:30 am empty stomach, and it's at my door two days after they roast it. They also do a ton of great things for the farmers in third world countries where the beans are grown. I don't talk politics online, but I will always use companies who do the right thing.
  15. Whichever jig head you pick, I highly recommend supergluing the TRD to it at home. The bait will last as long as the jig, and once it slides down the hook shank a bit, it is tough to get it back the way you want it.
  16. My local one had it, but tool only. It isn't sold with a battery, those are separate.
  17. I have the Ridgid version, it's really nice. A lot better than lugging my small compressor all over the yard when I get a flat on one of my tractors.
  18. What do you 100% braid guys do when you get hung up in deep water?
  19. I'm local too(and just bought a Garmin 73 uhd echomap). I'm hoping to hit the river late next week. I put in at Hinsdale.
  20. Yes, that's been going on for quite some time. I remember Mark Aguirre and Cedric Ceballos (two well known NBA players at the time) being invited to play in the 92 Olympics for Mexico. Both had fathers born in Mexico.
  21. I've switched over to braid to mono and have been very happy with it. I'm no longer concerned with knot strength and the difference in stretch (which never bothered me anyway) is very little over a 6' leader.
  22. I'm fairly certain I saw you post this back in May, and wanted to thank you. I showed it to the Mrs and later that day she went from TJ Maxx specials to a new pair of Costas.
  23. You're on the right track, more like 17 or 20 instead of 12/15 though. I used 17 lb and a 3/8 oz jig with pork for most of my life. Now I switch to braid when the grass really gets thick.
