  1. if you haven't tried yet, take a look at www.kayakfishingstuff.com they have a ton of info on Sit in vs Sit on top kayaks and other kayaking mechanics that have to do with kayak fishing. Good luck
  2. How well does it work? Just as well as fluorocarbon? or should I just stick with the Berkley Vanish as my leader? Thanks!
  3. I was looking to get a fish finder to take along with me on my inflatable...I have no experience with them and really have to idea how they work so I was planning to just dive right in (based on BPS reviews) when the battery issue came up. Do most fish finders work off marine batteries? Do any work on just a few double A's? or maybe a few 9volters? how can I tell? and which would you recommend that's not too expensive? Thanks!
  4. I fish my GF's pond in her neighborhood, it's probably a 1 acre pond, the fish are pretty small, 1-3lbs and they're fished pretty hard, senko's/*** baits of that nature are usually hit or miss, as well as spinners and buzzbaits. Recently I was looking through my tackle and noticed some Neon (chartreuse) Fat ikas I had bought a while back but had never caught anything on, so I figured what the heck. Wow...I don't think i've caught that many fish before, I also know that's it's the color that triggered them because i've fished fat ikas there before, blue/black flakes, watermelon/red, pumpkin etc, but the neon is what killed them for me. So maybe try some crazy color?
  5. Thanks Bobby! happy to be of some help!
  6. Just my 2 cents, I went with a St croix Avid casting rod about a year and a half ago, I downgraded to a used st croix premier that I found on craigs list, the difference in sensitiviy was very noticeable, I felt like my senses had dulled when I would drag a lure on the bottom. That took a bit of getting use to but after a while I adjusted. Now I sold off my Premier and downgraded again (why oh why are college text books so expensive :-/ ) to a BPS Extreme travel rod 3 piece since I've moved into a new apt with no place to put full length rods. The sensitivity also took a huge hit again and i've been trying to adjust. Just wanted to say that the sensitivity from an Avid -> Premier -> BPS extreme travel rod is very very noticeable.
  7. Hi Sam, do you think you could send me that info also? I'm in the Richmond VA area also, thanks!
  8. Very nice find! I wish they had lefties though
  9. The title says it all! I'm a poor college student and would like everyone's opinion on a good but inexpensive baitcaster, I recently had to sell off most my fishing gear for textbooks ( :'( ) but I saved enough for a decent rod and was looking for a matching reel. Thanks in advance guys!
  10. I recently discovered this pond, however as you can see by the picture, it has lot of underwater vegetation. My soft plastics kept getting caught up. And I didn't see any top water action. What techniques/lures should I try?
  11. In my girlfriend's area there's a lake that you can see from a main road, Ive tried fishing the lake a few times, but i've never had any luck, I see a lot of little minnows in the shallow areas and some bluegill swimming around but i've never seen anything larger than that, nor have I see any indication (top water hits). After exploring the pond a bit more I found a steep trail that leads down to another pond! I've never had the proper shoes on so I never tried going down until today...wow...I should have gone sooner. The moment I get down to the bank I see a bass hit the top, probably about a 2-3lber. My problem is...I normally fish soft plastics (senko's, Ika's, Jigs) and the way I work them is to let them hit the bottom, raise the rod tip up and let them float back down again. But the bottom on this pond is full of underwater vegetation, as far as the eye can see...and it gets tangled up on my like no other...Do you guys happen to have any suggestions as to what lures I could use? Thanks!
  12. Went to my gf's local pond this afternoon, tossed a red/black buzzbait around while bank fishing and watching the bluegill when this one takes the bait... after a couple more casts...I move over to another part of the pond and start casting...they regularly spray herbicide into this pond to control the weeds so there's alot of dead vegetation which keeps getting tangled up in my lure but I manage to catch this next one...poor guy got hooked through the eye =( They look kinda alike? I'm no expert and I've just recently started taking pictures of my fish (thank god for a good cellphone camera) I also caught this one awhile back...they all look the same to me =( now just to catch a fish over 4lbs ....
  13. I'm dying to know too! what kinda retrieve worked for you?
  14. PP = 1st and Suffix = 2nd for me Briad is more sentitivity and strength with a lower line diameter compared to mono, no stretch and can take a beating
  15. Heya guys, i'm in the market for a travel rod, I've looked through the BPS mag/site and I saw the BPS extreme rod and the Browning travel rods. Which one would you recommend? or is there something better at around this price? Thanks guys
  16. there's a listing on this site for a Redeye bass, possibly the one you have there http://www.another site.com/fish/fish.cfm?ID=147 *edit* for the life of me I can't get this darn link to paste properly for some reason, it's another site *
  17. I've recently bought a couple of the ***, they don't seem to weigh as much as the Senko's do making it a tad bit harder to cast with my baitcasting set up (I think they're on the lower end of the weigh rating of my MH rod) while Senkos cast a lot easier. I usually start with *** and end up using my senko's I think it's a confidence thing for me.
  18. Heya Longmike, I was looking into the Sea Eagle 8 or 9's Fisherman package but I also thought 250+ for a couple pieces of wood was a little too much , do you think you could post a few pics of the motor mount you built? and the floor board? thanks!
  19. yep it's pretty stable and i feel totally safe, the only problem is the wind and current...i'm usually pretty careful with my hooks around it, but the plastic is pretty heavy duty, nothing like an outdoor kiddie pool kinda thing
  20. Fishing from a kayak is fun, i'm a college student so my budget and space are both limited. I'm currently fishing from a cheap inflatable kayak that was about 60 dollars, it's fun but the only problem is the wind and current which makes it hard to stop and stay in 1 place to fish. I'm also currently looking into inflatable morot mount boats, like the SeaEagle 8 or 9 or one of the Fish Hunter series of boats (i'm leaning toward Seaeagle) which are right around our budgets!
  21. hiya LBH, I was reading through your suggestions, which of those would be best for summer fishing? some look rather heavy and hot for a summer rain. thanks!
  22. wow thanks alot! that'd be great, would be nice to save a couple hundred =D
