  1. Zoom Speed Worm is a confidence bait but the Gambler Burner Worm is a player, too.
  2. Debating between the Fast and Moderate-Fast version of this rod. Has anyone used both and can offer a comparison? I understand this is a rod that is capable of a lot, buy I'm curious where each excels?
  3. I don't fish for cats very often, so I do not have specialized gear. I use an old BPS Bionic Blade MH spinning bass rod with 20# braid on a 2500 Shimano spirex and do just fine. There are certainly better reels out there, but for the $ I'm not afraid to beat it up. The fish I catch top out at 10-12# but I've never had any issues with that combo. My hesitation would be dangling a meal for a pike on light braid. Have you considered a heavier Fluoro leader?
  4. The all 'round to be my next stick, just trying to decide between the Fast or Moderate Fast. If anyone has suggestions of where each excels, let me know! This will be my 3rd lowrider. I've always wanted to stick with one line/manufacturer of rods and I think this may be it. Started with the Bucoo (also a good rod) and after it broke (accident, not an issue with the rod) Falcon allowed me to upgrade. So, thumbs up to their customer service also. Enjoy!
  5. For those of you who shop at Academy: Are their sales typically in-store only and by location?... Or can I look forward to some kind of annual online sale? Interested in trying some H20 Express stuff.
  6. I certainly wouldn't lock them up, but I would get more aggressive in the retrieve. I'm also not convinced that you need clear water to fish a jerkbait. But, if everyone else wants to continue to believe that I'm going to let them ?
  7. Most of the time I'm using Seaguar Invizx with braid on casting gear. Always have a spool of 15, 17 and 20 on hand. 8# Red Label for spinning rod leader line. Bought the Sun Line FC Leader in 20# on a really good sale. No complaints, but IMO you'll be just fine taking your "leader" line off a filler spool. Anything over that, it's straight braid. I also keep a spool of Trilene mono in 12# if I feel like I need a little stretch or a shock absorber. I think it is similar to #17 Invizx in diameter. As far as knots, I always suggest the one you can tie best in real fishing conditions. I like the alberto.
  8. I also prefer a double tail grub. If you don't want a ton of action, a smallie beaver also gets the nod for me.
  9. I don't have that particular reel, but think it's built similarly to the BPS reels. Out of the box a good starting point is half internal pins on, half off. The external setting that adjusts your magnets is a fine tune for conditions such as wind. If you're just begining, set the spool tension so your bait will fall, but not overrun when it hits the ground. As you progress you can back off the tension, and eventually dial back your internal pins, but that will come after your thumb is well trained. Braking systems are a good aid, but the almighty thumb is still king. Also, take into consideration if the lure you are throwing is allowing the rod to load properly during the cast. Practice, train your thumb, and have fun!
  10. Ditto. Inexpensive and works well for me. Think they may also float but I haven't accidentally tried that feature out, yet.
  11. Yes @Siebert Outdoors Fogy is legit. You will feel the blade almost immediately. Haven't been able to find the komodo trailer but Gambler isn't a prevalent brand in my area. Didn't get into their stuff until my recent visit to Florida, but I'm sold on the EZ swimmers! I like a menace, rage bug or speed craw trailer, too.
  12. Something to keep an eye on. I would expect it will be a "clearance" type sale.
  13. What is your favorite? I'm having an issue where the wire is pulling out before the stopper slides on the line. I've tried to use saliva to lubricate, with no luck. I imagine it is a result of the line diameter, or the wire assemble is just garbage. Suggestions or tricks, please.
  14. 1 vote for megastrike. Also not a big fan of aerosol cans.
  15. War Eagle Spot Remover. A 3/8oz double willow is a good place to start. Get a good feel for it and branch out from there!
  16. Tie on a cheap piece of lead that weighs the same as the lures you will be using. Make a full cast, and then pull out a few extra feet of line. Place a piece of electrical tape on the spool and reel your line back in. This will prevent the entire spool from overrunning on your next backlash.
  17. Curious if anyone has recently used the Falcon rod replacement program? TSA opened and examined my Bazuka and modified a 7'4" into a 7'1". Before I saw the bank, I was hopeful I could get your experience and feedback on the process. Their website also says the exact model is out of stock. Any ideas how they handle that? Thanks!
  18. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/rodcast.html There is a filter function to input your desires specs.
  19. Fish monkey half finger guide glove (stay away from.the stubby) or glacier glove islamorada have both worked well for me.
  20. Fluoro works fine for me. High speed reel and rod tip parallel to water or slightly elevated will keep the lure up regardless of line type. Just my experience.
  21. Poppin frogs are very walkable (if that's a word...). I prefer a poppin frog unless I'm fishing over top of thick cover. My favorite is the spro bronzeye but if I'm around a lot of toothy critters the booyah frogs work fine.
  22. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Gambler_Komodo_Swimbait/descpage-GK.html Another option to consider, if you can find them.
  23. Already a lot of good info here on jigs if you search for it. Each style serves a purpose, but I would look for something like this if you're looking to buy just one type of jig, and pick up a few weights and colors:. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/6th_Sense_Divine_Hybrid_Jig/descpage-6SDVHJ.html?from=BASRES
  24. If you catch one that big, I'll take your word on the weight and tip my cap to ya.
