  1. I noticed a loose head this past weekend. I wedged and broke off a small piece of toothpick to snug it back up. Although I wouldn't throw it in a tournament situation I'm going to fun fish with it and see how long it takes before total failure. Otherwise, the wire is still in good shape.
  2. Talked to the owner... Said fish had been added a few times over the last decade. Some purchased, and some "came from the river".
  3. It can only be found by those who already know where it is ?‍☠️?‍☠️ lol
  4. Early bird gets the worm, I suppose. Go for it. Sounds like similar conditions out here in Western PA. I've been on a pretty good spinnerbait bite this "spring". Specifically the War Eagle Finesse in 5/16oz. Got one jig bite in April (luckily it was a 6+) but it seems to be picking up over the last week or two. Curve 55 finesse and DT-4 have produced as well. Took the buzzbait for a spin and learned pretty quick it wasn't happening. Not wearing a swimsuit yet, still in my gore-tex with some of the wind we've had haha. Underspin w/ swimbait could be an option if the spinnerbait bite falls off. Not sure if that helps or even applies but that's been my recent experience. Have fun, be safe and enjoy the new rig!
  5. @basscrusher I believe our place is near Jennette's Pier. I think it's pretty close to Nags Head. Not 100% sure. My buddy took care of all that. He goes down annually but only fishes the salt water. I get to take the lead on the bass. I can't go to a new place without chasing a couple green ones lol. Looks like bass guides near the Outer Banks are a fraction of what my last guide in Texas cost. To have access to the boat and have someone handle the mud fish for me is worth the price of admission! Also makes travel easier not having an 8' rod bazuka with me.
  6. The particular body of water that I am looking at is the North River.
  7. Optimistically planning a trip to the Outer Banks in August. My buddy is going to introduce me to salt water fishing, and I want to try and get on some largemouth. Aside from Google's results, does anyone have any personal experience with any bass fishing guides at OBX?
  8. It's been a saving grace during this whole fiasco. And, it is fun. Holds a few big girls, too. Largest I've found weighed 7.62#.
  9. I've been fishing a friend's farm pond for a few years now. It's a couple acres max, and has koi, carp, catfish, bluegill and bass. Got a little surprise today when I pulled out a walleye. I haven't been able to contact the owner to see how it got there, but I'm curious if it's any reason for concern in a small pond? Should they be removed when caught? Thanks!
  10. I wear an Aftco. It was $20. Best I've found for that price. Doesn't curl like some of the cheaper ones and has extra material to prevent that nasty little burn line on your neck. Also has the vented holes. Mine has a bass pattern on it, but I don't think the fish care ?
  11. I've got a freeze warning overnight and high of 60 by tomorrow afternoon. I probably won't change much from what I've been doing. For small ponds I generally take a lure I can work at or near the surface, something I can work on the bottom, and something for in between. Some days these are all 3 the same lure, just varying the retrieve. These little bursts of warm/cold probably effect my wardrobe much more than the fish.
  12. I wouldn't pay as much attention to the depth of the water as I would the cover that you're casting in, around and through. I use anywhere from 1/8 up to 1oz in as shallow as a foot or two. If you can afford it 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 should cover most situations you would encounter. You will notice that the weights are considerably smaller than the lead you are currently using, and much more sensitive. Most are 97%. Another vote for @Siebert Outdoors Good prices, excellent customer service and always answer any questions I have.
  13. Pepperoni rolls, beef jerky, Snickers, water & Gatorade, and mt dew/monster hydro (I don't like energy drinks, but I work 2nd shift. Morning comes quick) If it's just a quick trip a Gatorade and the same granola bar that's been in my bag since who knows when.
  14. Agreed. The theory I've come to believe is if they are sitting in the shaded area, under grass, dock, overhang, etc. they can see out much further into the sunlit water than they could if they were looking in toward an area where the light cannot penetrate. This is assuming some level of water clarity.
  15. Nope. I might spend a couple days a year fishing for trout, panfish or cats but for me that's more about relaxing and enjoying the outdoors, or when I want to catch and cook. Most of the other species I catch are on accident. Bass fishing for me is more about practice than it is a leisurely activity. That's not to say it isn't fun, but the more successful I am the more fun I have. And, I truly believe it helps to keep me balanced mentally.
  16. Let's not get too crazy... It's good to keep a few of those days in your back pocket!
  17. If you're curious about how they are impacted by weather, and you have 3 weeks to burn, take Friday off and do a little experiment. Go out both days and chart the results! It's valuable research, after all ??
  18. If you're talking about the Zoom brand, the trick worm is greater in length (6.5"). Both are straight, slender worms. And yes, rig it any way you want. Both can be used for a variety of techniques, in all levels of the water column. Weightless Texas rig, dropshot, shaky head, wacky, Neko, weighted Texas rig for light pitching, Carolina rig, just to name a few of the more common. You're only limited by your imagination... Good luck!
  19. Really great stories. I think we could all use some positivity!! Mine was last year, Memorial Day weekend on Presque Isle Bay. We were fishing a ledge that came off a big flat in 7-10 ft and catching a few smallmouth during the a.m. Tried to make a move out to the main lake, but a storm moved in and we had to book it back. This was my first time on Erie so I was amazed by how quickly and drastically the conditions can change. When the storm passed we went back to our morning pattern, but when the sun came out we more or less watched those same fish lock onto beds. It was a mad rush. Nothing like I had ever seen. My buddy and his dad were catching them, and trying to teach me. My untrained eye and sub-par lenses made it tough, but I was able to put a few fish in the boat. And then, the magic happened. My buddy's dad hooked up on one. I netted it and we let it go in time to hear my friends drag peeling. After we released that fish I reached for my gear to get in on the action, but before I could get a line in they hooked up on doubles. I somehow managed to net both fish simultaneously. I had just watched them catch 4 fish for what we figured was about 17# in a matter of minutes. I was in such awe of what just happened, I wasn't even upset that I hadn't caught any of them. I was truly blessed to be there and see it happen.
  20. @Saavedra9 ^^^ the bottom one in @A-Jay photo (thanks). I've heard them called so many different things, but I assumed a quick search for Biffle Head and you would find what I was talking about. Also @A-Jay if you take one of @Siebert Outdoors Fogy (football style head with blade) no skirt just add a swimbait of your choice, you better hold on tight ?.
  21. Pitching/punching with a Rage Bug. But they can be used for much more. Jigs, biffle hardheads, buzzbaits, Carolina rig, anything you can think of, really. When it's really rough, a dropshot or Ned rig and I go to a smaller bait maybe 2.5-3".
  22. Might just be my neck of the woods, but the DT-4 seems to be forgotten and the DT-6 has become the "standard" size. Big oversight in my opinion. There's something special about the DT-4. It will get inhaled when they're swiping at other cranks. Olive Green Craw, Bluegill and Demon* (seasonal).
  23. If you're looking for a grub trailer, I like the yamamoto double tail for jigs in cold water. Come 20 to a pack and 4 or 5". Green pumpkin, black and blue. 5" sounds huge, but it's really not. The Zoom Fat Albert takes a finesse spinnerbait to a whole new level. Usually just match the skirt, and it's usually white. I also have some of the Chompers double tail. Beware, the scent will knock your socks off.
  24. I didn't want to be that guy, but someone was bound to do it. All in good fun!
