  1. I recently discovered a shop that is 45 minutes from me that produces custom color patterns relating to my regions forage base. The work, is to me, exceptional. Have any of you die hards added custom baits to your box(s)?
  2. If you dropped your cell phone in the porta can... that would be a risky retrieval.
  3. First, the 734 will be under powered. The 735 has ample power for frogs and heavy cover. It is a braid friendly rod. The reality is the sweet spot for the 735 Fury is 5/8 ounce. I would put the realistic maximum at 7/8 oz. Once you move beyond that you will want to move to a 765 or 805 Flip. That 1.5 maximum range was established for lob casting larger swim baits which it will do. Lob casting. Hope that helps.
  4. The Kaden was designed to be a faster action than the Sierra and is closer to the Champion.
  5. The thrill of Victory and the agony of da seat. The reel seat is a deal breaker for me.
  6. The jig rod I’m most comfortable with is 7-5.
  7. Brad Schoenborn. He’s been a friend of mine for years. Unfortunately he is dealing with serious health issues.
  8. The Polska kilbasa worm
  9. Everyone has their own opinion on what they need from a rod to fish frogs. The situations are so varied their is no A-typical “frog rod.” If your fishing really heavy vegetation a Dobyns 6 power will move big fish buried in that cover. For less dense cover or pads the 5 power has ample power and enough tip to make more precise casts. If you’ve not handled a Sierra, the actions are a bit slower than a champion. The majority of guys I fish with fish the 735 Fury with 65 braid. I just prefer the 6 power. FWIW Dobyns will happily work with any potential dealer.
  10. There’s a line from the film Robo Cop: “ I’d buy that for a dollar!”
  11. See Catt’s post. Tip: for additional action, add a five inch single tail grub in white or chartreuse.
  12. Put a ZMan Ned craw on that baby. Mike strikes again!
  13. Reaction Innovation has the Man Bear Pig. It has a wedge on the “head” that helps hold the bait from sliding down with an EWG style hook. The body is also flatter and has some glide when using lighter bullet weights. I’m glad Zoom came out with the 5 inch BH and expect it to be really good as well. Great options
  14. Practice in the yard, fish in the water. Don’t give up! A properly adjusted Max with 12 pound mono and a 3/8 oz bait should get you casting with confidence pretty quick.
  15. For those of you who have a sportsman’s warehouse close by they have a 25 percent off sale on all Yamamoto, Strike King, Googlygans and some other bass related products. Your welcome.
  16. I used Lake Fork Tackle brand for years then BBB came out with there own. I Texas rig them with an OMTD wide gap hook in 4/0 and a flippin weight around 1/4 or 3/8 . Colors are simple with black:blue, Cali 420 and watermelon red flake. Great bait to throw behind other anglers. It shines in buck rush and bushes.
  17. Crayfish on the Columbia above Portland Ore. are very dark brown with the ends of the claws a bright blue. Crayfish on the lower River and sloughs are more of an avocado peel color in the early spring. As the water warms they transition to rusty browns with orange-red sides. So dark jigs or hula grubs with blue tips or accents early and mud craw or brown/purple or brown/orange later.
  18. I picked up a half dozen bags during a local shop bait sale. Normally I wouldn’t do that. After reading all the pro staffer hype about this bait I still wasn’t convinced. I wanted real credibility, some one who wasn’t paid to use or tout the bait, someone who fished a drop shot like a pro, someone who could articulate the merits of the product. So when A-Jay wrote we better get us some, the gloves came off and the wallet was opened.
  19. If you use braid to leader on one of the rods, the answer is easy.
