  1. I recently purchased the new Lews KVD split ring pliers/cutters and figured I’d share my thoughts on it. At 9.99 it’s a fairly well built tool with good tolerances. The grips fit the palm nicely are no slip, textured and give good control. There is a lever to lock the jaws closed. There’s three key functional features. There is an elongated opening that would allow you to straighten out bent hook. There is a cutter edge with the beveled edge having fine serrations. The cutter works well on mono, flourish and braid as long as the braid is under tension. The split ring wedge is sharp and nearly an 1/8 of an inch wide. It worked well on size 3 split rings but the bulk of the tips are too large to effectively work in the confines of a smaller size split ring. There is a nice curve to the jaws, left to right of the wedge is on the top. The tool is alloy and the pivot screw well designed. The tension spring is just right. The tool has enough leverage to crimp lead weights or hollow wire connectors. The cutters would get through fine wire hooks but I have no doubt that will damage the cutter edges. I’m happy with this tool and it’s a good value. If you need to work on smaller rings and hook changes a finesse snap ring tool will have to come into play. This is a good tool for in the boat. CC
  2. I take my nap while driving to the ramp.
  3. There’s a trickle down effect from the release of the “ new” Zillion. The current model is being marked down. I purchased a ZIllion SV TW in 6.3 to 1 today for $218.00 . ?
  4. Come on. What other outdoor sport has a ? ?
  5. Moderate fast for me. I have two rods that I would rate as true moderate, Dobyns 704CB Glass and a Cousins 735 E Glass. I consider my Lamiglas SR 705R as a MF even though it’s an E Glass blank. If anyone has concerns about loosing fish, try a composite. They have a little slower reaction than an all graphite.
  6. I’ve never been able to find a color with any manufacture to match the crawfish found in the Trojan nuclear plant cooling ponds.
  7. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could ship a reel for 99 cents? I would let anyone try my stuff out, even jimmyjoe.??
  8. Not enough consideration is given too the brain’s recognition of what a strike feels like. It was cool when I first tried a tungsten weight. “” So that’s what it feels like.”
  9. Most of the rods I’ve purchased over the last 30 years have been good to great but two stand out as a mistake. The Fenwick Elite Tech spinnerbait model. One trip and it was gone. The other was a St Croix Mojo spinnerbait rod. It had the sensitivity of a garden hose. I bought a Diawa Procaster back when magnets first came out. This was pre mag force. It was terrible. It soured me until the Tatula came out. Diawa has come along way.
  10. Bubble Gum TRD. I would never have tried this color if a buddy had not proven to me smallness in my region will eat it. Whodathunkit.
  11. Thank you Glenn for letting us know. Gary will be missed for sure.
  12. I like Seattle’s Best, Stump Town, Community, Caraboo, Green Mountain, Pete’s, and a local roast by a guy who moved here from British Columbia called Red Leaf. I drink all my coffee black. Here is a true story: A buddy went white water rafting with me. Late night camp and he was DYING for some coffee. He dumped two scoops in a pop can full of water and set it in the camp fire. He grabbed a cup and used the bottom of his shirt tail as a filter and poured it from the can. Bingo! That’s hard up boys.
  13. There is a little donut shop here in town that sells this. I’d never heard of it until they opened and it’s great coffee.
  14. I used to fish them like a tube. The Hawg Tail was king of a fitness pitching bait. I still have a couple bags of the beaver tail baits. When the BBB Yo Mamma came out, the Yuma became second stringers.
  15. I’m running the Tatula 200 on an eight foot rod. I can cast as far as I would ever need to.
  16. Scuppernong is a species of grape. They can grow to a reddish brown color. There are crawfish that take on that color. I tried it in a Power Team crawfish soft bait. It hasn’t shown to be anything special so far.
  17. That is me. I’ve always liked to explore new techniques which generally means new lures. I look at the bait and try and visualize the situation where it would shine or prove itself. The Dark Sleeper is a perfect example. It more than met expectations. I enjoy the whole experience of bass fishing and fishing diverse waters. The more versatile the better and sometimes that results in trying something new.
  18. Some how I see you holding it like like Judge Schmailing in the movie Caddy Shack held his classic putter. Oooohhhhh. Billy Billy Billy Billy.? Congratulations on the find!
  19. I play with Legos, Match Box cars, Play Doh, color, play Uno, Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, put together puzzles and watch cartoons. Sponge Bob is a regular.
  20. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I love auto spell check. ?
  21. I don’t disagree with you Kent. The question was the degree of difference between two price points. Is the degree of performance, longevity and serviceability really twice as good between reels where one costs twice as much as another. My point is the same or similar computer technology is applied in the production of a reel model, for example, a Tatula SV and a Zillion. The materials applied are the same or very similar and in some applications, components may even be interchangeable. Can I say that the Zillion is twice the reel. No I can’t. Shimano has applied the same or similar technology, example, the DC system to the SLX series which narrows the performance gap with in two price ranges. That generates the question of performance being so far apart to justify double the retail? Is there a more distinguishable difference in performance between reel brands/manufactures at comparable price points? I say yes but add what is the difference in design features? Finally, there are other companies that are closing the performance/longevity disparity with the “big two” . It’s seems to be that major design differences construed major price differences. My position is that factor is lessening as model years continue.
  22. Now that design technology, materials and machining have reached parody among and within manufactures, the difference or gap in performance and longevity between those price points had narrowed and will most likely continue to narrow.
  23. As a recipient of the annual A-Jay stock reduction sale, I can attest to one thing..... he don’t by no junk!
