Wiper tips
Don't forget to try a Rattletrap. I've caught Wipers on Traps when nothing else would work.

Irma area
Sorry, but over hyped? Insensitive much? Tell that to the thousands in Key West, Naples, Miami, Bonita Springs, and I could go on and on. I had 120 mph winds at my house, some had higher. Sorry, but this whole experience is still too raw to even entertain the idea of over hype.

Which reel for my second hand rod?
I just picked up a barely used 7' MH Lightning Rod at a second hand store for $13.00. What baitcasting reel would be a good match for this rod? I'd like to stay at less than $125.00. I figure to use this rig for frogging or other topwater. Thanks!

Favorite movie of all time
I'd have to say The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Next would be Godfather 1.

Menards, Home Depot, or Lowes?
I've always preferred Home Depot over the others because they appear to have a better selection of quality tools. Not the cheapest for sure, but I like them best.

Vintage tackle
Yep. Some decent prices on certain crankbaits. Some ridiculous prices on others.

"Food For Thought"
I'm no germaphobe, at least I think I'm not, but for some time now I have been observing just how "unclean" people are. Buffets are horrible and after seeing people picking up food with their hands only to toss it back I'll never eat at one again. Haven't for at least ten years anyway. I've also noticed how it seems that most guys leave the restroom without washing their hands. C'mon man, really? That's why I use a paper towel to open the door! One time at work I followed a manager out of the restroom who did not wash his hands. He proceeded to open a door to a meeting room and closed it behind him. As I was passing by a lady I knew was going into the same meeting so I just had to tell her that the door knob she was holding had just been holding something else. Her response? Eeeewwwww!! Love It! OK back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Best hot dog and burger in America?
I'm truly embarrassed to admit that my days of eating great tasting dogs are over thanks to some serious heart disease. These days I'm chowing down on Turkey dogs. Forgive me, I know not what I do.

Anybody Ever Get Caught Without Their License?
I don't know if this is available everywhere but here in Florida you can have your license sent to you on what looks just like a credit card. Makes it real easy to always have with you. Assuming you don't leave your wallet at home!

Gander Mountain Closing
Definitely hard to make a buck in retail these days, especially when your competition is BPS, Amazon, and any other monster online retailer. For sure,Gander was late to the Internet market and that more than anything likely sealed their fate. As someone already noted, overhead for brick and mortar stores will kill you unless you are competing only against other b&m stores. Not even close. Eventually there will be even fewer stores to walk into than there are now, with the bulk of the business going to the most tech savvy retailers out there. That's the price we all pay for demanding lower and lower prices. I've seen this pattern play out over the past 40 years with mom and pop music stores as well. Try to find a music store where you can walk in and buy a new $2500 Martin guitar and you'll look long and hard. Oh,they're out there, but fewer and farther between one another. When you're competing against online retailers who offer 40% off you don't have much of a chance, since your overhead won't permit you to offer such steep discounts. It'll be interesting to see how all this plays out in the years to come.

Garage Storage / Shelving
The house we bought in Florida has upper and lower cabinets on one side of the garage. I HATE those things? No way can I get a 2nd car in their with those cabinets taking up so much room. Plus, they make the garage feel so small. I would rather have nice wire shelving that runs the length of the garage and at a height that wouldn't be in the way.

Lost Lure Memorial Thread
Great thread! A few years ago I was really tearing into some nice bass in a buddies pond. I was using a small spinner bait and catching a few, then switched to a square bill Sisson crankbait in a summer craw pattern and started catching several 3 to 5 pounders. On the last one I hooked, she jumped several times and as I got her to about two feet from the bank my knot came untied and she went one way and my bait landed two feet from shore. As I started to throw different lures at it in hopes of snagging it, it kept drifting farther away. I thought about going in after it but one step and I was almost to my knees in mud. Knowing I was in a place where no one would find me for a long time, I gave up. Even though I have other baits in the same pattern, that one was the ONE.

Wish me luck......
Too bad the majority owner didn't intervene and send the other guy packing. Then again, these things happen sometimes and I have no doubt that given your positive attitude you will end up in a better place. I wish you much success in finding your new role.

School Me on Investing
You have a great attitude and wisdom beyond your years. Since you are a hands on kind of guy I recommend you read the investment materials for beginners on Clarkhoward.com. I just retired six months ago after a 45 year working career and I can tell you for certainty that a key point to any plan is to pay yourself first. Meaning, develop the discipline to save for your retirement right now. Don't put it off, and don't bale when the markets swing back and forth. Once you get out of school and get a job, start saving even more. You can still buy that new rod and reel, and an occasional pizza isn't going to derail you. Remember, you want to enjoy life while you're preparing for a secure future. And for heavens sake...stay out of debt! Be patient, continue to learn, and you will be able to retire with an enviable portfolio. I know people who were factory workers that never made what I call big money, yet because of living within their means and investing wisely they were able to retire with more money than they will spend, barring a catastrophic event. All the best to you!

Wire weedguards
I used to make weedless hooks with piano wire I got from a local music store. Very thin stuff that could be formed easily. Not sure how it would work if you were pouring around it though.

Frustrated with other people fishing my pond!
This reminds me of a situation I had many years ago when I asked permission to fish an older gentlemen's pond. He gave me permission on the condition I stopped by his house before fishing the first time. Upon arrival I was greeted with a printed permission slip(carbon copy) that we both signed. Printed on the slip were the conditions I had to agree to abide by when fishing there. I thought that was the smartest thing in the world. He knew who had permission to fish, and I understood the rules.
