  1. We put in at oak harbor sometimes. My son caught 20 last week before this last cold snap up at nassau sound.
  2. My son and me do saltwater too. Mostly for Reds, sheephead , flounder and black drum. I also fish for whiting , croakers, etc. when the others are slow. I also love surf fishing.
  3. It's looking better for this weekend. The bass fishing will probably be slow , but they gotta eat sometime!! Good time of year for sheephead fishing though ?.
  4. I have some Mann's jelly worms left over from the late 70s - early 80s. They are mostly all black with a few 6 inch grape ones mixed in. I have been slowly using them but I will stop when I get down to the last few. Also have some culprits from the 80s that I occasionally use. It's fun to use them because it is a way to re-live the past , it just is a connection to those good ol days as a teen when I fished nearly every day, and with some of the worms from the very same packs I had then. I need to come up with some kind of display case or maybe a board to retire some of them for good.
  5. Im on the Southside too, about the same distance from downtown. Haven't gone much in 2 weeks now. Getting caught up on projects while it's cold.
  6. I also did a lot of salt water casting with heavy weight when I was young , so any lure that's heavy , or a heavier combo gets thrown with 2 hands. If it's a lighter bait on a lighter combo , I usually use one hand. For me , the one- hand motion is similar to when I threw a curveball in baseball. I dont use baitcasting as much as spinning though ,because I broke my right thumb near the wrist when I was 19. With 2 hands or one , I get a lot of pain with the wrist torque involved with bait casters. So I mostly use spinning , which I can do all day with no pain.
  7. Patriots, jags ( beat the Steelers 30-9 up there already, ) Vikings, falcons.
  8. Use a live red breast bream ?
  9. Today was the nicest weather day we've had since the end of the year. Had 1/2 hour to fish between stops , at a familiar lake 6 miles or so from home. Same result as pond fisher. 1 bite and I swung and missed. Really peaceful little break anyway. Thankful for it!
  10. Looks like a yellow bullhead. Around here we call them butter cats. My favorite catfish to eat ! Delicious! That one is very big for that specie.
  11. This^^ I actually get slightly stressed over all the ponds I see on a daily basis , driving around working , trying to decide which ones I will try someday. I am commission only, so I'm never really " on the clock ". So I will occasionally try a pond or two between stops. But I'm still careful about fishing in high visibility areas due to the company name on the work truck !! I don't scout physically very much because most of the places I fish I often pass by while working. I check the weather a lot. If I'm going somewhere kind of far away that I haven't been to lately , I check every source I can find in advance about it.
  12. I was rooting against Bama but have to say they are incredibly resilient. How many games have we seen them win like that. Hopefully Saban will retire soon.? Not a dog fan either , but they have no reason to be ashamed. I was rooting for them in this game for all my Georgia friends.
  13. I agree with all the above except that this winter has been a colder one so there may still be a good number of bedding fish in central fl. In march.
  14. I taught myself to swim as a teen , by staying in shallow water and treading water , dogpaddling etc. Then I would go out over deep holes. Once I lost my fear of the water it was was easy. Then you couldn't keep me out of the water. I still nearly drowned in a rip current at the beach , and trying to swim across a pond with my friends. ( although they never knew ! ) I had a class later on and to pass you had to swim 1/4 mile , but I'm pretty sure I couldn't do that now. My wife almost drowned in a rip current last year with my g- daughter. She miraculously swam out of it after going Under 2-3 times. My G-daughter ( who swims like a otter ) was nearby ,but wasn't caught in it. I remember seeing them way down the beach right before it happened and breathing a prayer for their safety as it was rough. They were not far from shore but still there was danger. A young man drowned that day just out of sight from where they were. I guess the moral of the story is be prepared . Don't take risks.
  15. The only thing I've got lately is a pack of yum dingers.
  16. Man, those are some tanks. You're motivating me to get back on the water tomorrow afternoon. Our temps here will finally get above 50 for the first time in a week or so . These Florida strain fish seem to just shut down when it gets this cold here. But they gotta eat sometime!!!
  17. It was high twenties here this morning , high 40s for the high. Coldest week here in a lonnnnng time!
  18. You too ! Yeah - high 20s for lows - 40s for highs this week . The last several years we've had fish bedding up here in late dec.and Jan. Not this year!!
  19. Grumpy old men. lol ?
