Lost my taste !!
I got real sick over the weekend. I had nearly every symptom of Covid. Took a test , and it said negative. Lost my taste at some point on saturday. I feel about 75% normal now,,with a lot of rest , over the counter medicine, and antibiotics starting yesterday. I have had my taste leave before when I had head colds, but it immediately came back when my head cleared up. Well, my head is clear, but still no taste. Whats going on here? My wife cooked one of my favorite chicken recipes last night , and I couldn’t taste it at all…?

MLB
I love the game itself, having played from 8 years old on my first team through college. Then 17 more years of city/ church league softball. I am a lifelong braves fan. I’d listen to the games at night on A.M radio. Aaron, Cepeda, Carty all were big hitters, but their pitching stunk, so they were usually 4-5th in NL west. I could imitate batters in every starting lineup in the NL west , and a few in the east, esp. the pirates. But It didnt have to be the braves playing for me to watch. I would watch “game of the week” with my dad ( if we werent fishing). I had baseball games set up on every side of my house. If it rained , I had a garage game I could play. Or I played baseball board games by myself. I had baseball books, like the Bronc Burnett series. I traded cards with friends fervently. I loved the game. And most of all , I enjoyed team baseball, esp. hitting. My first year I was like “ Smalls” on sandlot. My second year I was most improved player, and carried through until I was mvp on my college team one year. I was still into baseball well into the 90s, regardless of ‘94. The Braves were at their pinnacle. After that, I lost interest in mlb, but still loved the game. What the mlb did to Atlanta about the all star game about finished me and MLB . I was so glad Atlanta then won the world series, but I didn’t watch a lot of it. Now I love catching some college games ( Go Gators) Money and politics hasnt corrupted it ( yet ). The game of baseball is a distinctly American game. The crack of the bat, the sound of ball hitting glove, seeing the dirt fog out of a glove when the ball is caught, the national anthem, the umpire hollering “play ball”, “take me out to the ball game”, cheap hot dogs, popcorn and coke, fireworks after a game in the summer, watching the Sandlot scene when “ America “ is sung by Ray Charles. All this and more is what I love about baseball.

Death, it's going to happen
I want to be buried in our church graveyard, after the funeral. I’m big on traditions but I’m not a “ Open casket “ fan though, so that won’t happen. Afterwards , I want them to have a lunch where all my friends and family can tell stories about me?. My wife may just have me cremated and spread on my lake to save money, knowing her. Or wal mart , so she’ll visit occasionally ? As far as preparation for it, I’m ready in some ways, but not others. I’ll just leave it at that…

When is a good spinnerbait scenario?
I’m in no way a spinnerbait expert , but I’ve always heard it’s best to use them on a cloudy day with some wind. The 2 biggest bass I ever caught on one had the exact opposite conditions though , lol.

Ridiculed from buddies for bass fishing???
Bass is king in fresh water here. Specks are second, maybe not too distantly. The problem here is more people like saltwater fishing . They dont run us down much for bass fishing, but I get the impression that most of them would rather spend a couple days with their mother in law than go bass fishing…

St. John’s in early June
I can understand why they would want to bream fish there. They are easy to catch and they are BIG in that area. Bass? Follow Grivers advice for locations, and rodman is in the area too. Try some live wild shiners!?

If you could fish with five BR members & five pros, who would they be?
I’d definitely have fished with him. He fished a lot of the same areas I have.

Fishing Around Gators
Lots of encounters with them because there’s lots of them here. Was I ever attacked? No, not even while wade fishing the St Johns. As I’ve told before, I did get hemmed in once by 2 nine footers. They weren’t trying to get me, I was just there in the river when they came out. I had the kids out swimming while I fished once, and one started coming our way- rapidly… I got the kids up on a dock, but as soon as the splashing stopped- he stopped. Ive encountered some on the bank , and they ran into the water every time. I was camp counselor for a private school one summer. One trip was to the okefenokee swamp. There are millions of them in there. I walked up on a 10-11 footer that was being pelted by sticks, rocks, even apples from a group of our kids, while the counselors sat 100 ft away and didn’t seem concerned. The kids were getting up to a few feet away from the gator. I hollered at them ( and the counselors). That gator could easily have gotten a kid that time. There at the boat launch my sons friend caught a big mudfish. It was flopping around on the bank and he started to jump down and get the fish. About that time a 12 footer suddenly came out , snatched the fish , and disappeared. If Chad would have jumped down at that moment… The biggest reason gators approach is because some dummy has fed them before, or they got attracted by splashing. I respect them but am not much concerned with them. As long as you don’t bother them, they normally wont bother you. At least that’s been my experience.

I like catching fish. Ive had 2 hits ever with a CB , both in my home lake. I’ve fished it in 2 other locations without a sniff. I do ok with a spinnerbait occasionally, which would make me think I could catch something with a CB . But not yet… A friend had an 8 pounder on one in my lake and lost it as he tried to lip it. Keeps me trying again occasionally…

When do you use braid and when do you use straight fluorocarbon?
Flouro : Never Braid: Only for frog fishing in heavy cover. Mono for everything else. I tie the bait straight to the line. No problem. Works for me…?

I use google earth for ponds and lakes in my area. Caught my 2nd biggest bass ever because I found a pond behind a target store on google map and tried it.

Fast Food
I ate fast food consistently between the ages of 15-30. One day when I was around 32 I was working and they had just come out with double whoppers at burger king. I had one and felt like someone was sitting on my chest for 3 days. That started me on the sub - for - lunch path unless I was eating with others. For many years I rarely ate a take out hamburger, just chicken or fish. I still got the fries and sweet tea though of course. Fast forward to now: I very rarely go to fast food when I’m by myself , although wendies hung on for a long time…I’ll either skip lunch altogether, or I go to “ chowdown alley”, which is a local grill. That does not include Chic fil a ! I still eat there occasionally. The main reasons I’m nearly fast food free: It’s mostly unhealthy, especially the salt, which keeps my blood pressure high. It’s way too expensive now, and the service is not so fast.( There’s a local Mcdonalds that I told my wife I don’t care what she does to me, I will never go back there to pick up “food” for the family ever again.) The worst service I have ever seen, which is saying a lot. I concur with the Krystal assessment. I could eat 10-15 of them right now though ! ? But I won’t…
