  1. I actually tried it tonight and it does have some hoppy flavor but it's not nearly as bitter as most IPAs. I thought it tasted between Yuengling and any standard Ale.
  2. I have two spools for my Stradic. One has 10lb test powerpro, the other has 6lb Copolymer. I switch them out depending on where I am fishing. If I am near vegetation or wood, I use the braid spool. If I am near rocks, or open water, I use the copoly. I also base what line to use on the type of bait I'm fishing
  3. I'm assuming she doesn't know how much your setups retail for?
  4. Yeah, turns out I am going to be in town for a friend's birthday, but I can't help out the Ashburn guys because of it. I am free Friday and Saturday evening as well as Sunday morning as far as I know. Just let me know.
  5. One spot we fished slightly north of the ATV trails, using what could be described as an ATV trail, except someone had dug an anti-ATV ditch across it. This would be about mile marker 8. The water was very clear everywhere we looked, but still we saw no carp (if they were there we would have seen them, we could see alot of the fingerling bass in the pics, before catching them, that is). Fish of the size you describe would have been unmistakeable. oh well. must have been hanging around somewhere else.
  6. I went out last night down here in Harrisonburg. Fished about 6pm-7pm in the rain. Had some strikes on the Rage Tail Toad over weed mats. I landed two, had a couple come off and just missed the hookset on a couple. Also had a hit on a big 3/4ounce jighead with the rage tail craw on the back (Andrew - the bait that I was using on my baitcaster in the morning when we were fishing) but the fish jumped and spit the bait. I feel that the fishing has been better than it was a couple weeks ago. I don't know if it's the cooler temps or because it was raining or what but I had a half dozen hits in an hour at a place that is highly pressured and usually only gives up a couple of hits every 2 hours or so... Is anyone available the weekend of the 18th and 19th?
  7. If northern Florida is the "Deep South", what is southern Florida? Not the deep south. I don't think that the terms "The South" and "Deep South" are strictly geographic. Fact is, northern Florida and Central/Southern Florida are probably about as different as Northern Virginia and the rest of Virginia.
  8. I have always thought of "The South" as the states Burley listed. Then the "Deep South" is Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Northern Florida. As I said in the other thread, I don't think Northern VA should be counted as "The South" anymore because it is a drastically different culture than the rest of the state.
  9. I just tried the keel weighted hook. I had 5 blowups--missed 1, lost 2 on bad hooksets coming unbottoned, and landed 2. The weight solved the rolling over problem but I would really like to fish the bait slowly and I can't do that without the bait sinking because of the weighted hook. For those 5 blowups, I had one bait's leg rip off and caught a fish on the second bait without any damage. I have to say, I really like these baits for grass mats but I wish I could fish them without the weighted hook without them rolling over.
  10. Technically it is... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mason-Dixon_Line ;D Southeast Bass Fishing section includes: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia That the state is south of that line means nothing. Arizona is below that line, as is New Mexico. Are they southern states? VA, TN, LA, MS, AL, GA, SC, NC, FL That's how I see it. Except my part of VA doesn't count.
  11. But there WERE tons of bigots in WV in the 60's...just like everywhere else. There are still lots of them up here in 2008. So I'm sure they are still everywhere. True 'dat
  12. But there WERE tons of bigots in WV in the 60's...just like everywhere else.
  13. Did you get anywhere up near those ATV trails? That's where I was. I don't remember what Mile marker we were at. If the water is clear you can see the carp from the bank swimming in schools. There are some giants in there.
  14. I agree with gremlin. You could use one rod for all those baits but they won't all work optimally. I think one of the rods I recommended could be used for all of the lures you described EXCEPT for the crankbaits. Again, you could through cranks with it, but there would be better rods for doing that. If you just want one rod to fish them all, the AVC70MHF or AVC70HF will allow you to fish most of those baits more than adequately.
  15. My roommates were just making fun of me and my brother for calling the act of using a vacuum "sweeping." I didn't realize it was a regional difference until just this week.
  16. I've had the same experiences with both baits. Glad I'm not the only one.
  17. I would go to something at or over 7' like either the AVC70MHF or AVC70HF
  18. no, just stick with XP
  19. Were you up Page Valley Road in the National Forest? (It's a few miles past Shen. River Outfitters' building) I think I recognize some of those spots but maybe not. That's great that you and your sons had success. That is a nice area down there. There are loads of decent largemouth in the 3lb range in the submerged laydowns along the banks in the slower moving water in that section. See any of those torpedo sized carp?
  20. There is no such thing as a good IPA. The whole point of all those hops is to cover up poorly made beer. I am constantly amused at people who try to tell me that I have poorly developed taste buds because I don't appreciate the taste of hops. I tell them that they have not acquired a taste for hops, merely a tolerance for it. x2 as far as I can tell people only drink IPAs because they are trendy.
  21. School work....I don't have enough time or money to do anything other than learnin' and fishin'
  22. I've heard that the main thing that gives you the energy is a high dosage of vitamin B12, anyone know about that?
  23. all Linux users swear it's 1000x better than windows. Most of them are also highly computer literate I really don't think Linux is right for the average user
  24. thanks for the info, I was wondering what it tasted like. Now I know to stay away from it.
