You have 0 friends
either you don't actually watch South Park or you don't know what a metaphor is. South Park has done some very smart commentary on some pretty serious topics...they just do it in very immature and/or disgusting ways.

Loudoun County Fishing?
Yeah, stuff like that has happened to me but at a place like Audubon or Anne I tend to just suck it up. It's the residents' that pay to maintain it and I'm not going to complain too much when I'm not technically supposed to be there.

What'd ya'll do this weekend? I witnessed a small scale riot.
someone said the last riot was 10 years ago. Would that be about right?

Rock vs. cranks
I had the same problems until I started fishing them slower. Now whenever I feel the bait run into something, instead of cranking into it or setting the hook immediately, I maintain the same pressure. If it starts shaking or moving, it's a fish, if not, I know it's a snag so I let it float up a little then keep going.

What'd ya'll do this weekend? I witnessed a small scale riot.
This weekend I went back down to JMU for Block Party weekend... The Block Party or "Spring Fest" is an annual event at JMU. Lots of people show up from other places (they are usually the ones who start the trouble) but it's usually a lot of fun. At JMU the party scene doesn't revolve around bars or pay-to-drink parties but rather open house parties where only the host pays for drinks and shares with everyone. Block Party involves a long row of apartments/townhouses that all throw together for a huge party. I stayed at my brother's apartment which is up the road in another complex from the main party. We walked down to the party, saw it was getting sketchy with beer bottles being thrown and fights breaking out so we turned around and went back to his place. There were cops in full out riot gear and they started to disperse the crowd when people started throwing beer bottles at the them. Luckily, we weren't in the area when the nuts started hitting the fan but basically pepper spray, pepper spray filled paintballs, rubber bullets, and tear gas were deployed. Approximately 30 people were arrested out of a crowd of thousands. (People estimated 8,000 attendees but I have no way to confirm that) I saw dumpsters on fire, my brother's roommate got hit with a rubber bullet, and his other roommate threw a tear gas canister away from their apartment complex. Lots of broken car windows and torn down lamp posts. Photos by David Casterline and Robert Hoehn

Seaguar InvisX
Yes, it is worth it. It is my favorite line. Comparatively small diameter, pretty good abrasion resistance, and super limp.

Lake Anna warm side this week
Yep, definitely a pick. I haven't caught one yet but I have caught a pike and learned to tell the difference when I was trying to figure out if the fish I caught was a pike or pick. Most people think of them as a nuisance but I'd still like to catch one.

Got a wet cell phone? Find some rice...
I've heard of that trick before. I've also heard of putting wet electronics (without the battery) in the oven at VERY low temps to dry them out.

Fredericksburg Anglers (The Rap)
Yeah, the only bad thing about Seaguar Invizx is that it is expensive (so is Trilene 100%). I haven't tried their cheaper stuff but I've heard it isn't as good.

Fredericksburg Anglers (The Rap)
Yeah, Vanish is garbage. I have heard good things about the BPS Fluoro but I've never used it. I've been using Seaguar Invizx and it is awesome. Trilene 100% is pretty good too. Other than topwater and frogs, I fish all fluoro.

Jay, I'm curious about what fluoro you have been using that "deteriorates quicker than mono"? Fluoro is generally much more abrasion resistant than mono, that's why most people use it for fishing rocks. I have only caught one smallmouth on a tube, and that was pitching it texas rigged... I know they are good smallmouth baits I just don't like using them. I think the sandier parts of the river tend to have more minnows than crawfish. I use flukes and shaky heads.

fish grippers and lippers
Sure, there is less chance of removing slime coat with a rubber net, but there is no chance of it with lipping a fish.

Getting serious with a fly rod.
HAHAHAHA. I'm still chasing something worthy of a picture on the fly but I'm slowly getting better each time out. I'm going to try to catch a snakehead on the fly this summer.

Re: why fishing regulations cannot work and should be removed
well it doesn't seem to be hurting any of the places that do allow spawn fishing. I agree that you should follow the regs, I'm just saying that I think recent science contradict their intentions.
-
Re: why fishing regulations cannot work and should be removed
From what I've learned, this whole belief is a a misconception. The states cite the same "studies" that you did but they neglect to talk about the studies that show lakes maintaining healthy hatch classes despite nest predation and abandonment. There is evidence that suggests fishing during the spawn does NOT harm the fishery. So it's not really just about selfish enjoyment vs. bass populations.

I read the first few questions then went on to something else. ;D

Re: why fishing regulations cannot work and should be removed
walleye, pike, musky, smallmouth & LM are all closed here. so if your throwing anything that isn't a panfish bait, your probably not going for panfish and targeting gamefish out of season. thats how they can enforce it if they wish. unless your fishin the year round areas of the mississippi. oh snap, well that makes it easy.

fish grippers and lippers
Everything I've read would suggest a net would be more likely to do damage than holding a fish by the lip. Besides, it's hard to get a picture of a fish when it's in a net.
