  1. If you've seen the Joe Thomas/Lucky Craft videos on youtube where he's fishing a sammy on El Salto, then you would know exactly the kind of fishing I wish I could have for a few months. 5s and 6s on topwater with what seems like every other cast.
  2. I tend to be real good at figuring out what a good pattern is and then get outfished by my partner using that exact one...

I got a call Monday from Paul wanting to know if I wanted to fish some Tuesday. With the high around 80 degrees, a full moon, and an incoming front approaching; I was all for it. I met at his house at 8:30 on Tuesday morning and we're on the water by about 9. We knew pretty quick what kind of day it was gonna be. He had caught two fish within the first thirty minutes! Seems like they were keyed in on a red lipless bait. I put down my fluke and pick up my Super Spot and by the 10 we've both caught several fish. Looking like a great day with potential for huge numbers Before too long the weather front starts to work it's way in. The wind picks up and starts to make it real hard for two fellas fishing out of a jon boat. We continue to fish around and catch fish continually off of red lipless baits. We soon start to focus on the wind blown points and cuts. These areas seemed to hold stacks of better fish. It was getting closer to end of the day and we had caught a large amount of fish but nothing to really brag about yet. Several twos and some threes also but nothing to really make the trip BIG. We troll up to the mouth of a windblown cove and I hook up on back to back casts. The first fish was maybe 12". The second fish was a little bit bigger though. We get her to the boat and weigh her just for the fun of it. 4.75. We fish on out and continue to catch more and more fish. No more big ones though. We come back around and face the same cove were I caught the 4.75 at. Paul slams back on a fish and the next thing I know I'm netting his 4.5. All in all it was a great day. We managed to catch a few fish on other baits but all in all I'd say 80% of our fish came off of Paul's XR50 or my Super Spot. By the time we were done I'd say we had caught at least 60 fish with our best 5 going somewhere between 18-19 lbs. Here's some pics of the twins
  4. Take the bait and drill a hole behind the line tie or right in front of it. Then hold the bait at a 45 degree angle or so. Just picture the bait swimming and hold it at that angle. Then add a couple of drops of super glue. After that, fill the hole with epoxy and touch up with paint.
  5. Old Spice Red Zone soft solid. Afterhours.
  6. I prefer a little longer rod, a 7'6". This allows me to launch lipless baits so that I can cover a lot more water. I like a MH power. Often times, I'm fishing around grass. The extra power makes it easier to rip the bait free of any grass the trebles may collect. I like a moderate action because that allows for better hookups and pins the fish better.
  7. They've been around for a few years. I have one in gold black that has just caught an absolute ton of fish. More than my sammies. By far my best walking bait. Then I have another one in the bluegill pattern that hasn't caught a single fish. Used it on the same days as the other color and on days I caught fish with a sammy. Just won't doesn't seem to work as well :-/
  8. The ones the pros try so hard to track down is the P70 series. It was 3 and 1/8" long and has a large knocker type rattle in it. The Mag Pop-Rs at WalMart now are the P65 series. They are a 3" version. Rebel does offer the P66 version that is a 3 and 1?8" version in some holographic colors but I don't know what the difference in action/sound are from the older P70 series. A P6g series with the bottom lip shaved is my favorite popping style lure. I haven't had the heart to enter the bidding wars for the P70s yet.
  9. Again, watch the live coverage. He was clearly using a Light n Tough. I really like Ike. But pros put their names on products to make a little extra pocket cash. It happens.
  10. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1235174159/all Here's Glenn's pics showing Ike's front deck, not a single Ike rod. Yes the video where he is just talking he says he used the Ike rods, however if you watched the actual ESPN coverage showing him fishing then you would've recognized that the rod he was pitching that tube with was A Daiwa Light n Tough. Those two rods do not look similar so it was not confusion.
  11. From Glenn's pictures and the ESPN footage it doesn't even seem that Ike likes using them. He had one on his deck and seemed to primarily use the older Daiwa Light n Tough series.
  12. I ordered the new energy Wed as well. Should know what it's like by next weekend

I'm going to give a x2 on the Black Grape color. Aaron's Magic would be my second choice.
  14. I believe that TT and Youvella are both owned by the same company. http://fishharderco.com/
  15. x Infinity. Also, when the line gets caught in a treble on the perfect cast therefore ruining it >
  16. I really like Falcons. All I've owned though are the Cara series. Let us know what you think.
  17. Mike McClelland finished 4th at the KY Lake elite last year fishing regular brush hogs on the back of football jigs. I saw him preparing them and rigging them up before he blasted off on the last morning...thought it was crazy at first haha.
  18. You weren't kidding! Nice fish man
  19. Same deal http://www.woodcraft.com/product.aspx?ProductID=820096&FamilyID=4494
  20. GEEZ man...makin me homesick
  21. Actually I think you can make crankbaits on a lathe BUT it requires an extra tool. I think that you first have to carve your lure and then set up a duplicator on your lathe. I can't imagine it's easy or possible with just your hands and tools...
  22. I'm considering pulling the trigger on the new pt energy myself. They do look good. Get the tour already and let me know how it is
  23. Buddy that fish looks a little bit bigger then 2
  24. Being able to to feel what exactly your crank is ticking on or bouncing off of or slamming into is very important to me. On the days when the bite can be confused with snagging grass, a sensitive stick can make all the difference in the world. You don't need a fast action. But I'm sold on having a sensitive stick. I paid $110 for my Powell 684CB and $150 for my Loomis 964. To answer the original post, Get yourself an Ugly Stik until you're ready to get a duplicate like your old stick or just use a spinning rod. Most of them are a little slower than their casting counterparts.
  25. Maybe that works for you. But boy are you wrong about the stupid simple part haha
