Spinning Reels, which one
OK, I am looking to get a new spinning reel. I just bought a BPS Extreme MH 7 ft. rod. I can not break the bank, so am looking in the 50-60 dollar range at reels. I am going to be using it mostly for light weight or weightless plastics, jigs, etc.... I have narrowed it down to the following: Shimano Solstice SO1000FH Pflueger President 6730X BPS Pro Qualifier PQX1500 Shimano Sahara SH1500FB Any thing good or bad about any of these??? all about the same weight, but I did notice a big diff. in the # of bearings in each one..... is that really that big a deal????

Hand guns
Nothing is more true. Especially if you are not experienced in using handguns, a pump action shotgun like a Remington 870 is the way to go.... you do not have to aim it, just point. and 00 buck at 20-30 ft. and closer will cut a person in two. If you are not experienced with semi auto handguns, I would recomend a revolver if you do not want to go the shotgun route.. In the gun industry, revolvers are considered idiot proof, in other words every time you pull the trigger they go bang. Where as semi autos can jam... have you ever cleared a feed jam under stress??? It is not easy,, and it gets harder when you are under stress. Just some things to think about, before buying a handgun.... more handguns are taken away from people and then used on them by criminals than you can ever imagine, because people do not think about the situation, ,and if they can actually pull the trigger if they have to pull thier gun....... Can you shoot someone???? and shoot to kill????? You dont want to wound them,,,, they will sue you for everything you own, and get it in most states. Dont laugh, it has happened numerous times.. even the cops have been sued for wounding someone that had a gun in thier hand, and threatened to use it, the police lost the lawsuit. are you willing to put in the practice neccessary to get good with the handgun??????? That means 2-300 rds at first, then 50 rds a month to keep from getting rusty.... you not the gun... Are these hard questions? Yep sure are, but better to ask them now, then later when it may be to late....

Wiggle Warts anyone????
I was a big time salmon fisherman when I lived in the Pacific Northwest. I was going thru my tackle boxes over the weekend, and realized I have about 20 Magnum Wiggle Warts by Storm Lures. I was wondering what everyone thought of them as bass lures? They give off the same side to side wiggling action as "bass lures" do, and they dive to like 10 -12 ft, and they have great hooks, and come in a wide variety of colors.... I was just thinking,, I have about another 300.00 worth of bass lures if they work.. :-? :-? Anyone out there think they won't work???? http://www.stormlures.com/products/index.cfm?type=hard_lureshttp://www.stormlures.com/products/index.cfm?type=hard_lures

cajun red line
I use it, not sure it makes a difference. Chart says it has to be 4-6 ft down before it disappears.... well what if you are fishing in 2ft of water???? Make sure you get the limp casting one for a spinning reel or you will be disappointed. The standard Cajun line is just to stiff for spinning reels. It does hold up though.. it does not seem to nick up to bad even fishing around rip rap rock... However, is it better than any other mono line??? I do not think so, but the red makes it easier to see above the water line for me anyway.

Anchors
I guess I am thrifty (see cheap) ;D I made my anchors. I took 2 3 lb. plastic coffee cans? Filled them with concrete and put a stainless eye bolt in the center with washers and but on the end to anchor it in the concrete once it dried. Weighs about 6 -8 lbs. and if I have to cut the rope for any reason,, I am out,, ummmmm about 3 bucks.....

Biggest influence
I consider myself a good fisherman. I learned from my dad, uncles, friends, etc.... I read magazine articles, but other than that, it took time. Time spent learning how to cast, learning how to tie hooks, learning how to use bait correctly. All under the watchful eyes of my dad, until I started going with buddies or by myself, then I started going again with my dad, until he passed away. It took me two days of solid fishing to catch my first salmon. Two months to catch my first steelhead. 3 weeks to catch my first sturgeon. 2 short trips to catch my first bass, trout, crappie, etc... However, I am still learning to become a great fisherman.... just like I am still learning to become a great hunter, brother, son, husband, citizen, etc.... I may never get there, but I keep trying, learning from my mistakes, taking in more information, no matter how I get it, and sift out the good from the bad, keeping my learning curve going up. To be honest, I hope I never become great at anything. That means I may stop trying. Which to me would be the saddest day of my life.

Cell phone, man I'm STEAMED!
Glenn, I humbly disagree. I deal with these companies every day. They do not like "bad press" It takes 20 happy customers to undue the damage done by one unhappy customer. I am not saying go in yelling and screaming. However, I would make sure my rep knows that if that is the best he can do for me, as soon as my contract is up, I will be looking for another carrier. We were able to pick up a very large corporate account for that very reason. The rep would not budge... so the company left the carrier when the contract was up,, and we got their business... Now that rep is in another line of work. That contract cost him about 10,000.00 a month in business between phones, accessories, etc......

Cell phone, man I'm STEAMED!
I work in the Wireless business on the wholesale end, and you need to make a stink about that.... your rep is making his commission to be sure..... Call around to different stores, and see what they say. If you complain enough they will do whatever it takes to make you happy. Especially if you do it in person in thier store in front of other customers or prospective customers... They do not want to lose the potential business, especially if you start dropping the names of thier competitors, as possible replacements.

Ever get that feeling
LBH, I know exactly how you are feeling. I have had those days also. When I do, I turn to family, friends and God to help me fight it. I , also, think about that part of the movie "City Slickers" and remember my best day. And it helps drive those bad feelings away. Those feelings can really drag you down if you let them. However, if that does not work I go fishing. That always clears the head.
