  2. For me it's I like to learn one thing at a time. Last year I boycotted senko style so I would force myself to learn other techniques even if it was going to be frustrating and not as productive right away. I thought hollow body frogs were dumb and every one I knew threw ribbit frogs. I have one friend that only throws ribbit exclusively. Well I was determined to learn a new technique. I quickly learned not all hollow belly are made equal. By trial and error I got my favorite (livetarget mouse) and can say I caught more on that mouse than all other top water combined. Before last year I had 0 hollow body catches, now Its a go to lure. This year is learning how to bottom bounce, T-rigs and jigs. I KNOW I will get bit on keitechs, worms, and jerk baits. But I want to get better at skill and those (simple steady retrieve) lures would t make me a better angler. It's kinda like buying a new house. If u fix everything the first year everything will be half assed and you will regret not spending more time and homework on it. Pick one renovation or project a season so it's done right and has your full attention.
  3. YoU must have missed the weekly thread about zman lures melting. I for one never really had a problem. I have a zip lock with a razor shadz on a skirted scrugger head and rhe skirt hasn't melted. Inside the same bag is 4 colors of finesse worms and some paddle tails and a couple jigs rigged up. I felt like why do I need to bring 10 bags of zman if they last forever and are essentially indestructable. I'll bring a whole bag of regular plastics cuase I can easily rip 5 in a day. Not an issue what so ever with z-man so I consolidated the lures into one bag and have no issue with colors running or any melting. I don't want to recommend this as I would feel bad if someone used a different brand zip lock and had them get ruined. Even if they get ruined it's only 1 color in each bag and I still have alot more lures. Don't let them contact with anything plastic even something on your boat. Overall the positives far outweigh the one negative that is easily contained.
  4. Last year I boycotted it. Fished ice out in CT and was skunked 8 times. Refuse to buy GYCB, guess what my first fish of the year was. Green pumpkin chatruse tail GYCB. I was soo ticked but hey they work. It's still my last option and although I've listed the boycott I'd much rather throw a curly tail or a jackall flick shake. Senko still seems like cheating and I'd rather continue to learn new techniques.
  5. The only hook that doesn't tear the nose of a soft plastic is the spring lock versions. The stick with a bunch of arrows on it is horrible and falls out. Keitech will last 4 times longer with a spring lock. I'm looking forward to the savage gear rat and duck. Also want to try the new SK rage swimmers although siebert already has them availible. I want to see more frogs with rabbit fur or feathers instead of the same old rubber strands. Also looking for a small ribbit version frog from Zman. I have their popfrogz and don't like the action. A sliding keel weight with a spring lock, I know one company does it but I want more to so you can alter nose dive to horizontal fall on the fly. Half the stuff in my tackle boxes are perch colored but soft plastics never have this color. Always looking for variations of yellow, black, orange, green swirl.
  6. This My favorite frog is livetarget, but favorite hollow body is the brown field mouse or the sunfish. Both are stupid easy to walk and hook up amazing. The mouse has longer hooks that just work better for me and I love to throw it around timber.
  7. 3" fat or slim version. I crushed 27 crappie one day on the 3 inch white sight flash on a weighted zman trigger hooksize 2/0 I think. In CT we don't have big bass. 5 lber is a catch of a season and I use 3.8 fats and 4.3 inchers. I rig on a 3/0 to 5/0 Keel weighted, spring lock 1/16-1/8 Oz maybe even a 1/4 if I want it to run deep. The key is the twist lock swimbait hook. Kietech are super soft and that's what makes them have so much action. The twist lock with prevent the nose from tearing every fish and you will only have to worry about the tail being biten off. One thing I have noticed is if you don't rig them super straight they tend to ball up or bend up and get kinked on rhe hook as if their back is broken. If you rig them proper every fish in the lake will follow if you cast close enough. Good luck and there are many posts like this with other useful info
  8. Got on a white keitech, also got 2 pike on a rapala BX minnow in CT.
  9. Where are the Big Tex and Bama bug colors lol. Sorry Im complaining thanks for all the hard work and getting the product out in a timely fashion so that we can get alot of use out of them this season.
  10. While I love braid it can tend to fail behind certain lures. When using a jerk bait the line will drift back while the lure is thrust forward. If I'm using a swimbait or a frog I will tie direct but for jerking lures I prefer florocarbon leader.
  11. Can I vote for perch colored lol. Where I fish there isn't any shad like you would see down south, and not a lot of crawfish although they certainly are there they are not the main forage. Most of my bass eat perch or sunfish or other smaller bass. When ever I see a perch color I jump on it. One of my favorite colors when I used to throw senko style baits was the srike king or lucky strike that had orange yellow and black swirl. We used to call it sweet potato pie. Yum also made a pink orange yellow swirl that I would call creamsicle. In terms of the jerk baits and paddle tail swimbaits I will usually try to find a sunfish laminate color or draw perch stripes with green back yellow body and a hint of orange in the belly using spike it markers and such. I believe white/chartruse might be better near shad populations but not for me. Where I go it's usually murky, so I will almost never throw a green pumpkin or watermelon green since the bass won't see it unless he's right up close to it. I know that those are some of yalls favorite colors and some on here said those are the only ones you need I just don't feel confident if they can't see it. I will also use baby bass and black blue junebug a lot and don't use "loud" colors anymore.
  12. Well the price of food and goods rose. Zoom which have no scent and have been around forever are still 4-5$ a pack at dicks and I got the keitechs for 6. Difference is every fish in the lake follows the keitech not so much with a regular lure. I won't buy senko cause to me big bites baits work just as well for 25 pack for 5$. But to me there is nothing like a keitech, I see the yum pulse to replace the swimming flukes and grass pigs.
  13. See that's one thing I don't get. I just got 3 packs of keitech 7$ each and got one free. 5.25 per pack of somthing that every fish in the lake will follow is worth it. I put mine on a twistlock hook and it lasts just as long as a senko. I've caught pike and had lures last weeks. Some guys have Plano boxes full of crank baits and they only use one of the 30 8$ cranks they own. Keitechs aren't gouging prices I think their production and shipping costs might be double what zoom might be. I fully understand what bluebasser86 said. Sometimes the kietech looks so healthy, the tail moves too much that you want the subtle grass pig. Or the havoc might be better on a bladed jig. I will try this yum if it's a nice medium in between the crazy wide kick of the kietech and the slow dieing subtle kick of the grass pig. Also I have always liked their brand and other lures.
  14. Has anyone tried them rage rigged? I will try backwards like is mentioned and cast them so they can glide under docks and matts.
  15. Some jerk baits have casting systems in them like the strike king slash and rapala xrap. These will give you the distance you are looking for and they have great action. I also like the BX balsa minnow and the Flat rap, even though they float once they get moving they get down to the distance.
  16. Overstock bait has some crazy deals. 99c for some things and 2$ gycb lizards, hula grubs, kalins grubs a lot of great deals for the weekend.
  17. Great photos!! That's a bucket mouth. Next time someone says your using a big lure show em that wide mouf
  18. Super got today in central CT. 87° with a real feel temp of 99°. Cuaght 1 LMB in CT river off rocky bank on a Rage structure bug. Two nice SMB on a keitech swing impact fat. This biggin was sitting in front of us on a bed for like 15 mins. Threw a bunch of lures at her and finally after one strong jerk from a Balsa BX rapala jerk in perch color and she rose and smashed it. All released quick since it was so darn hot. Very happy I caught one on the structure bug I've played with it all winter and you guys talk it up enough. I used the Bama Craw color on a zman trigger hook. Keep cool friends!!!
  19. Meth...... NOT EVEN ONCE!!
  20. https://gfycat.com/ForsakenWeightyCuscus Link if the above one doesn't work Where can I buy these?
  21. I see what WI Guide is talking about I think the one on the right is eagle claw. Which could be great if used in hydrilla or nasty nasty weeds and slime. In yhat case you want the most weedless hook out there and sacrifice hook up ratio to not pull slime off your lure every other cast. In the other end of the spectrum I've also seen hooks with a slight upwards angle that were impossible to texpose into the plastic. Some I left at that 5° angle for open water situations and half of them I bend down to be horizontal and lay flat on the bait and you wouldn't even need to really tex-pose it sometimes. WI GUIDE I never have used any thing over a 5/0 and usually throw 3/0 on a 4 inch keitech. What do you throw with a 7/0? A 6 inch lure? What about 9/0, are you using like 8 inch paddle tails?
  22. Buy one get one 8 inch line Thru savage gear trout on monster fishing tackle. Sebile has a lot of clearance baits now at like 75% off. Also free ghost rod with purchase of 300 series reel. All are untill 5/28 It might be different where yalls are tho.
