Lowrance doesn't provide those types of covers, but the mounting base has a slot in it that the wiring leads into. It doesn't leave much room for water entry, so I didn't worry about sealing it with silicone.

I have an eclectic assortment of anything but Shimano rods and reels. I always try to match them to the outfit I will be wearing on any particular day.

Buy a spare Head Unit power cable from Lowrance. I think they run about $35. Take one of batteries out of the boat and set everything up in your shop. You can practice all winter long.

Pour it into the truck tank, assuming it's got at least a half tank or so. Your truck will never know the difference. If your boat also has a large fuel tank, you could do the same in the Spring. Personally, I would put it in the truck.

I have the same mount as Rhino shows in his last photo, but I'm I'm smarter than he is and have installed an HDS-8 instead of the Bird. I've never had a problem with it, and the amount of adjustment available is almost limitless.

Robert, that is one awesome reel! I truly wish I could afford one. I read Tackle Tour's review of it. Probably the highest ratings I have seen - with the exception of the price.
