I'm retired. I do not fish tournaments. I fish for pleasure. I am not a morning person. 9:00 AM suits me just fine. According to Doug Hannon "The Bass Professor," the majority of big bass are caught between the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. That said, my PB was caught at around 7:00 AM. That's the fish in my Avatar.

Lots of good advice above, but I would recommend that you start with braided line - provided that you are a patient man. Even the backlash from hell can be removed without damaging the line whatsoever. My worst backlash took me over two hours to remove. Obviously, I wasn't on the water, and obviously I can be patient when I want to be. I would suggest that you start with 30#.

Palomar. It's one of the best knots. The Modified Clinch is also very good. As you are a newbie, i would suggest that you read the Fishing Articles that are available on this site. There is an encyclopedia of information there. Lest I forget, welcome to our forums.

NoBassPro, you have hit the nail on the head. According to Perry, bass follow specific structure features as they move from shallow to deep and vice versa. A simple abrupt change in bottom topography can be a key for bass in their daily migration. It could be a one foot change in depth, a change from mud to gravel, or even a stump.

NoBassPro, I suggest you obtain a copy of the book "Spoonplugging" by Buck Perry. Although the book was initially published in 1965, and much of the material is very dated, it is a virtual bible on structure fishing.

It would help if you could tell us what kind of boat it is.

I can't diagnose the problem with your wrench, but I can say that the reason the wrench becomes ice cold is due to the rapidly expanding air coming from the compressor. The reason that you have water coming out is because you have water in your compressor tank. There should be a petcock at the bottom of the tank that will allow you to drain the water.

Despite the advice about what you should have done, you still have a stuck pedestal. If I were in your position I would consider the pedestal a write-off. After an overnight soak with WD-40, I would start with the pipe wrench and start rocking the pedestal back and forth. If it won't budge then bang the hell out of it with a hammer (at the base of the pedestal, all the way around) and try the wrench again. One little trick that has worked for me in the past is to apply the wrench to the base of the pedestal, pull it as tight as you can, then pound the very end of the wrench with a hammer. Good luck!

I am pleased to report that I indeed have a Man Cave. It's an 8'X10' room that is accessible only through the garage. I'm not going to post pictures because it looks as if someone threw a hand grenade into the room. But it's MINE, ALL MINE!

Traveler, Pickwick Landing State Park has ten cabins (we have blocked all of them,) each with two bedrooms, having two double beds apiece. The cabins weren't designed for boat hook-ups or boat parking, but they worked out fine for us a couple of years ago. Because we had multiple adjoining cabins the members simply worked with each other to get our boats parked as close to a cabin as possible. Parking and hook-ups never became an issue. Just make sure you bring plenty of extension cord. A 100' reel will suffice. On the other hand, the lodge has plenty of hook-ups, just as the Hampton did at G'ville.

To elaborate on Glenn's post, the dates are Wed. May 1 through Mon. May 6. Instead of taking a week of vacation to attend the trip, it's now just a long week-end.

Zoff, you are correct. Attaching one bank to each of the batteries will work just fine. As a suggestion, why not pick up a three bank charger and charge your cranking battery at the same time.
