@Will Wetline I love smalljaw's videos!

What do you do in the off-season?
It wouldn't surprise me but the pressure that pond gets from live bait fishing during the regular season is pretty harsh. And usually the people fishing it are doing it for food. You can reach the other side with two casts probably.

What do you do in the off-season?
I don't do this but some guys will catch or buy BIG (I'm talking 8+ inches) shiners or suckers and rig them up on tilts and target either pike/musky or trophy bass, especially out in western mass where the pike are more prevalent. I ran into a guy last year who was using them in this tiny pond that I've never seen anything bigger than 2 or 3 pounds come out of. I don't think he caught anything but I got to give him credit for trying.

Issue using snell knot with certain hooks
Does anyone else who uses the snell knot have breaking issues on certain hooks? The reason I ask is I like to snell octopus style hooks like the Gamakatsu Octopus hooks. The issue I seem to have is when the eye is made the end of the hook wire is simply folded over, which leaves a corner of metal that the snell knot seems to be getting pinched in, and I'm getting pretty terrible breaking strengths using it on hooks that have eyes like these. I know VMC makes some worm hooks with epoxy protected eyelets but their octopus hooks do not have this feature. Do any other brands make octopus hooks with welded or epoxied eyes?

Do any of you guys ice fish? Weather is starting to look pretty nice for ice making.

What do you do in the off-season?
<-------- Ice Fishing I wouldn't say I like it more than open water fishing but it really does provide a whole different aspect of fun for me. Running to traps as flags go up and feeling the fish running on the end of the line and setting the hook by hand gets me excited in different ways than fishing with a rod. Only thing that's annoying is there's usually about a couple weeks to a month on either side of ice fishing where there's not enough ice to safely fish but it also makes open water fishing impossible.

The latest sale thread
It is a great deal but I'm not sure the initial price of 25 bucks was justified either.

Cabelas and BPS merger delayed
I'll be curious to see what they do. I don't know about you guys but the Cabelas near me never had as good of a fishing section as BPS, but Cabelas also had a better Hunting section.

Money saving tricks, ideas, and homemade stuff
I think he's saying that if a 1 ounce lead jig had a volume of X, that to get the weight of his special jigs you would need to add the weight of tungsten that would occupy X/2 and the weight of epoxy that would occupy X/2. Assuming he did indeed use a 1 to 1 ratio of tungsten and epoxy resin by volume.

Best jerkbait/chatterbait rod
Have I thrown 3/8 and 1/2 chatterbaits on my MF setup....yes. Will I ever again now that I have other rods that would be better suited for the job, no. Like @A-Jay said, if you have to use a MF, use braid to a leader for the chatterbaits (or straight braid if you want) if you absolutely can only have one rod. And like others have said you can always downsize the chatterbait size if necessary. To be honest I wouldn't necessarily be as concerned with hooking up with fish on a MF and like a 3/8 ounce chatterbait, but if I am fishing it around any type of cover like laydowns or lilypad edges, I would have almost zero confidence in the rod having enough power to stop the fish from wrapping me up.

Deep Bargain bin Diving.
I found a jackal Giron in a bargain bin once for like 10 dollars off. And at Cabelas I've found some amazing deals on Lucky Craft stuff (like 5 bucks a pop for some lipless cranks and smaller pointers)

Buying multiple spools instead of buying multiple setups and just having different line you can switch out can save a lot. It can also save on line costs if you are someone who changes line out frequently to achieve different running depths on crankbaits.

Winter kayak clothing
A little off-topic but this reminded me of some guy a while back when I was really young, paddling through the ice...yes, THROUGH the ice, in a kayak after we got our first layer of skim that year. He wasn't fishing but it was still funny to see.

~The Road to the Super Bowl 2016 & 2017~
I don'[t necessarily think you can say they are worse because they have only beat bad teams, they still won. But I think it does set them up for potential playoff disappointment. I think if they were to play the seahawks they could get shocked their first playoff game.

What kind of line?
X2. Especially with ponds where you might be fishing some narly stuff without the option to fish open water as much. I would definitely want frogs to be an option if I exclusively fished ponds.
-
What brand line?
Where are you finding assassin for 10 bucks less than sniper? Because that sounds like a website/store I need to go to more often
-
What brand line?
For Braid I like Power Pro and Suffix 832 For Fluoro I like Sunline Sniper For copoly I like Yo-zuri Hybrid as others have said

Tough fishing
I like fishing tough weather, but I'm also not going to purposely fish spots I know will not be as productive. I get enough satisfaction out of finding a pattern and finding the productive spots.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Thanks for the advice! I can't find anywhere where it specifically states the < 1 inch part of the law though. If that is the case that makes a whole lot more sense as I'm pretty sure loons aren't going to be swallowing 4 inch long bladed jigs by accident haha. The whole law states: "Lead Sinkers, Lead Weights, and Lead Jigs Weighing Less Than an Ounce. Any sinker or weight made from lead that weighs less than 1 ounce, and any lead jig (meaning any lead-weighted hook) that weighs less than 1 ounce, is prohibited for use in all inland waters of the Commonwealth. The term lead sinker shall not include any other sinkers, weights, fishing lures or fishing tackle including, but not limited to, artificial lures, hooks, weighted flies, and lead-core or other weighted fishing lines." I would have to think you could argue a bladed jig as an artifical lure, no? Especially if they excuse spinnerbaits as they are getting pretty close. Shorten and straighten the spinnerbait arm and you have an inline spinner, which they also exclude, and attach the blade directly without the wire and you have what would be a silly "bladed jig". It just seems to me there is way too much "guesswork" involved in the law for them to realistically enforce it for anything other than lead sinkers, plain lead jigs, or lead weighted hooks.
