  1. ok. your getting a messed up here. always tow in drive unless you have a tow/haul mode or your truck is made to tow in OD then it is ok to tow in overdrive. why? its not how light the trailer is and weather or not your truck "knows" it back there. its all to keep your trans working good. heat is the problem with trans. when its in drive the fluid pressure is high, and this helps to keep it cool. when you put a auto trans in overdrive the pressure drops and it has less cooling. . when not towing this is fine for your truck, but when your towing, there is more heat in your trans and it needs to keep cool. heat is the biggest issue with trans failing. Now if your truck has tow/haul mode ( my chevy Tahoe does, so I run it in OD, but my GMC Jimmy doesn't so I run it in D) that will raise the fluid pressure letting the trans cool better.
  2. Your liabity is realy low at 25K. if you plan of fishing any tournaments most require at least 100K to 300K min.
  3. run the cruise all the time. will not hurt anything. I get in my Chevy tahoe with the boat out back. hit the tow/haul mode and set the cruise at 70-72 mph and let her roll. tntitans21399, I never heard anything like you stated. A govener doesnt slow a truck, just cut of fuel or air to not let the truck go over set speed. it should not slow a truck going down hill. if you hit your governed speed going down hill then the truck will go faster drifting and you can give it any gas till it slows back to the set speed. it doesn't slow the truck, like you explained. beleive me I drive trucks with govereners on them every day. ( I am a trucker) and what you are decribing is a "jake brake" which I I know of no small trucks having them. ( when i say small truck, anything under a semi is a small truck) what you decribe that your friends truck did sounds like brakes on the trailer acted up.
  4. U Haul will set you up with the right hitch for your car, and istall it. also make sure your car has a tow rateing. check your owner manual. some cars are not rated to tow, even with big motors
  5. as for the transom saver. tha looks ok to me. you could lower it, I see your saver is adjustable, but you want to make sure you have enough rooom under the motor so you don't hit the road while driving. not just level, but when you changing angles. like coming out of a parking lot, or down/up a hill from level. tye motor looks good. on yhe oil? is tyour tank on the motor? if it is it is gravity fed, so the air would raise to the top and there would be none in the sysytem. at least that is it in my brother 125 merc.
  6. does it have 2 tanks? a lot of older ranger I have seen has two tanks. maybe it need to be switched to the other tank
  7. what brand is it? amps per bank? how long are you chargeing? one of those lights should go out when it charged, well on mine it does, but you can leave you charger plugged in 24/7/365 and it will not hurt the batteries, infact it will keep them at tip top shape. both of my boats have them and stay plugged in 24/7/365 . if its a small charger and your batteries are low and you don't leave it plugged in you might not be charging the batteries all the way.
  8. relply to luckycraftman. go down to Tackel Unlimited on Rt 51S In large Pa. just before the mon river. they have G loom there and can order anything. also great shop to repair reels
  9. the 787ci is a great unit.
  10. make sure the vent is open on your gas tank
  11. Crooked Creek Yough Dam Donegal Yough River Erie High Point 3 rivers pool Edinboro
  12. any damage to the prop will cause vibration.. as for a "high speed Prop"? Its a 40# you not talking fast.
  13. make sure the motor is sitting level, and the prime bulb is hard. My brother has a 125 merc that is a bear to start unless it sits level.
  14. or they pulled the head off of it because they thought it had burned up a piston.
  15. bassfisherman I know your pain, can you High speed all day and not knowing how to fish high speed. CC will be better. I'll be there for that one. I might be a rider, if there isn't any free spots I'll be bringing a boat.
  16. if your having trouble finding a small outboard try www.smalloutboards.com they have some nice motors. ther is a Merc 9.9 tiller there for $850
  17. sounds like the foot pedal is bad. very common. contact MK and they can sell you a whole new pedal. that is why I got away from using my PD, I was going trough a pedel a year.
  18. I never really had any problems with deck bouncing around. just remember weight is not good. first off when those livewells are full that is a lot of weight. keep them full and it will not move. How many gal. are yours? mine are 18gal each. also remeber if you plan on taking the deck out of the boat. If it too heavy it will be hard to get it out and make it hard. also if its to heavy you might have trouble getting the boat to plane quickly. I always go lighter is better. If you that worried about it moving get 2 "L" brackers, small ones. screw them into the deck and ito the floor. its only 4 small screws and you will never see the holes, and it will hold it down. just a note here are some picture of a tackle storage unit I put in between the dashes. It hold plano box well and is unused space in the boat. http://s288.photobucket.com/albums/ll168/compass281/?action=view&current=jimspictures065.jpg http://s288.photobucket.com/albums/ll168/compass281/?action=view&current=jimspictures067.jpg http://s288.photobucket.com/albums/ll168/compass281/?action=view&current=jimspictures066.jpg
  19. http://s288.photobucket.com/albums/ll168/compass281/?action=view&current=jimspictures071.jpg here are some digrams of my pluming. sorry I ahd to drw it and take a picture. One 750gph pump works very well. the recirqs are 500gph. I have built several rear deck befor in this boat till I found a one that works. one suggestion to you, do not use 2x4's they are to heavy. remember that is alot of weight when the livewells are filled up. If I was to use wood I would use 1x2's they are lighter and will hold the weight. I use alum angle beams for mine
  20. here are some pictures of the rear deck and live wells I put in the back of the boat. hope they might help. sorry about the trash in the boat. when I put her away last year after a year of hard fishing I didn't have time to clean it out. http://s288.photobucket.com/albums/ll168/compass281/?action=view&current=jimspictures058.jpg http://s288.photobucket.com/albums/ll168/compass281/?action=view&current=jimspictures060.jpg http://s288.photobucket.com/albums/ll168/compass281/?action=view&current=jimspictures061.jpg http://s288.photobucket.com/albums/ll168/compass281/?action=view&current=jimspictures063.jpg http://s288.photobucket.com/albums/ll168/compass281/?action=view&current=jimspictures070.jpg
  21. mine is a deep V with a walk tru too, no bait wells up front. It did have a 20 gal above floor live well in it, but I hated it. every time you went to get on plane it would dump most of its water. twin 18 gal. I made them out of Rubbermaid bins, and my rear deck is the with of the boat and 40 inches long. It houses the twin livewell, 4 batteries, charger, and fuel tank ( my boat didn't come with a inboard tank) and one area for storage. If its not raining tomorow I'll take some pictures. here is what the boat lookes like, well with the cover on. How does your boat run with that 88hp on it? I have a 75 suzuki on mine now, but its blown up and I am looking at new (used) motors, and the 85-90 Johnsons are on my list.
  22. what's it look like? you say look below, but no pitcure. I see you have a Sea Nymp 175, is that a deep V? I have a Sea Nymph GLS 175 and put a rear deck into it. 2 live wells too. I'll be takeing some picture and see it it helps you.
  23. thanks for the info. I have never had problems with the charlie's gear. I have been using that one for about 2-3 years now. and I am on my 3rd. not because the hooks or that type of gear when bad, because the body was ripped apart. I have only caught one bass on it and it was a 4 lb smallie. I know a smallie. I was using it for Stripers schooling on Gizard Shad ( which the charie looks like). caught 2 Stripers, but the Muskie and pike seem to love them and they put a hurt on the soft body and have ripped it apart. This will be the first year for the basstrix for me.
  24. that is what I was asking if it was a 4 stroke. and according to their web site the 15 is 111lbs not 130. but that is nit picking. but either way it will be fine left outside on your boat. yes use a lock so no one walks away with it. I would buy a motor cover for it if its new and you want it to look new. do you see a notice able increase in speed.?I am asking because that 5hp difference and either 26lbs, or as you stated 45lbs more weight would seem to negate the extra 5hp. I know when I run my 15 merc (2 stroke) next to a 9.9 merc ( 2 stroke) there is only a few mph difference and they weigh the same
